Chapter 5

The hospital room door opened, and Julian hurried inside. Before he could get any closer, Zoey grabbed the vase from the table and hurled it at him.

He did not move. The vase struck him in the forehead and left a deep gash.

Blood streamed down his face.

“Julian, I told you I don’t want to see you! Get out! You made me the other woman! I’ll never forgive you for this! Get out!”

Zoey sobbed uncontrollably. Julian walked over to her with a worried look.

“Who says you’re the other woman? I didn’t tell you I had been married before because I was afraid you’d get hurt. Now that you know, I might as well tell you the truth.

“Zara and I haven’t had any feelings for each other for a long time. She came here because she wanted me to sign the divorce papers.”

“Really?”

Zoey sniffled. She looked hurt. “You’re not lying to me, are you?”

“Silly girl, how could I lie to you?”

He gently wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes. His voice was incredibly gentle.

“You just had a baby. You shouldn’t cry. Come on, be good.”

“Where’s the baby?”

Zoey wanted to see her baby. Ruby brought the baby over and placed him beside her.

“The baby’s been waiting for you. Zoey, don’t be sad. I can prove that Julian has always loved you.”

“Really?”

Zoey looked at Zara through tear-filled eyes.

“You really don’t have any feelings for Julian anymore? You came here to sign the divorce papers?”

“Yes. The papers are right here. We’ll sign them in front of you and the baby.”

Julian gave the bodyguards a quick look. One of them immediately shoved Zara hard.

Zara did not hesitate. She picked up the pen and quickly signed her name on the signature line.

Julian frowned when he saw how quickly she signed.

“You…”

He wanted to say something, but he could not find the words.

Zara finished signing it and held the pen out to him. “I’m done. Your turn.”

Julian looked at her. Her eyes were calm. There was no emotion in them at all.

That look made him feel uneasy for the first time.

Something Zara had once said to Julian suddenly came back to him. “Julian, you should know there’s no such thing as going back in my vocabulary. If you ever hurt me, I’ll leave you without a second thought.”

“Julian, why aren’t you signing? Don’t you want a divorce?”

Zoey’s voice brought him back to reality.

This divorce was only for show. Once Zoey calmed down, he would explain everything to her.

He did not really want to divorce Zara. Besides, she had agreed to his plan. They would get back together later.

He signed his name on the divorce papers.

It was done. After all these years, they had finally reached this point.

Zara felt completely drained. She did not have the strength to do anything anymore.

“If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”

“Wait. Julian told me you’re an OB-GYN, right? Then, you must know how to take care of a baby.”

Zoey stopped her.

“My baby came so suddenly. I didn’t have time to hire a good nanny or find someone to help me recover. Why don’t you stay with us for a while and help me take care of the baby? I’ll pay you!”

Ruby almost clapped in excitement. “Exactly, Zara! You’re a doctor, after all. You can definitely take care of Zoey and the baby.”

Zara found Ruby’s shamelessness ridiculous.

“Julian, I—”

“Just stay. I already spoke to your hospital. You took annual leave for this trip. Since you’re already here, help take care of Zoey for a few days until we find a suitable nanny.”

Zara could not believe Julian had actually agreed to such an unreasonable request. She stared at him in disbelief.

“What makes you think I’ll agree to this?”

Julian gave her a cold look.

“Zara, I’ll say this again. Don’t forget who I am now. All I have to do is make a donation to your hospital and ask them to fire an employee. That won’t be difficult.”

Tears filled Zara’s eyes. She bit her lower lip hard and refused to let them fall.

She never imagined that Julian would use her career against her like this.

Zara had worked at Javerton Hospital for five years. Julian knew exactly how hard she had worked during those five years.

She loved her job. After years of hard work, she had finally earned the chance to go abroad for further training. She could not let him take that away from her.

“Fine. I’ll do it. I’ll take care of Zoey while she recovers.”

“Thank you.”

Zoey leaned against Julian and smiled triumphantly.
