Morgan's POV
Ragnar had tried to warn me that she was human. My supposed mate. But I didn’t listen.
Now, storming out and slamming the door behind me, I could feel my fangs digging painfully into my lower lip. I was too angry to care.
“She is still our mate,” Ragnar whimpered.
“She’s human, Ragnar.”
“It doesn’t matter. "She is mate,” he insisted, low and whiny.
I ignored him, stalking off toward my office.
“There you are,” a voice cut through my thoughts. Violet. My temporary Luna. She walked toward me with that overly bright smile she always wore when she was trying too hard.
Ragnar groaned inside my head and rolled his eyes. I stopped walking.
“Where have you been”? A strained smile tugged at her lips.
She could smell her on me. I knew she could. I felt it in the shift of her energy, the insecurity that flared every time another woman crossed my path. She was always like that. Always comparing. Always threatened.
She must’ve forgotten that her position beside me was only ever meant to be temporary.
Don't get me wrong, Violet was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Her red hair, which she liked to trim short to accentuate her model-like face, and those brown eyes that gave her an air of mystery complimented her thick curvy frame.
From a distance, she appeared graceful and confident, but those who knew her really knew her, understood how fragile and insecure she was. Especially when her heart got involved.
I had never felt the pull of the mate's bond with her. The mate bond that I felt when I was with Alora, my weak human mate.
Her forced smile, her emotions had never tugged at my heartstrings the way Alora’s did.
Violet’s smile never reached me. Her emotions never pulled at my instincts the way Alora’s did.
I barely knew Alora, but she’d already managed to unravel me in ways I didn’t think possible. I hated how easily she affected me. Hated that she was human. Hated how effortlessly beautiful she was, with no enhancements, no effort.
Not like Violet, who clung to makeup like armor. I wasn’t sure if she thought it made her more desirable, but honestly, it had the opposite effect on me.
I missed Violet from before. Before, the Luna title made her so obsessed with appearances. I preferred the girl who didn’t need constant validation. The one who used to be my best friend. My confidant.
Now, I barely recognized her.
She sidled up to me with her smile that was too wide to be sincere. I was not in the mood to smile, but she was.
“Are you okay”? She asked, touching my chin, and searching my eyes.
“I’m fine Lettie” I replied even though that was the last place I wanted to be.
“You smell of her” she replied, sniffing at me.
“Stop it Lettie” I replied, trying to avert her gaze.
She stood on tiptoes and planted soft kisses on my lips.
I flinched, Ragnar growled softly.
She noticed.
“I'm sorry Lettie, i need to go”.
She gritted her teeth and looked hurt and disappointed.
“I'm sorry” I repeated and stepped away from her and continued on my journey.
As soon as I got to the door to my office, my beta, Harry, was waiting for me, arms crossed over his chest.
One look at him and I knew he had overheard all my conversation with Violet through our mindlink. Harry was my tether, and sometimes I wished he didn’t know so much about me.
He opened his mouth to speak but i halted him.
“Dont”
“Fine, but she is still your Luna,” he said through clenched teeth.
“I'm not exactly in a good mood right now, Harry” I responded, turning to head into my office.
He stepped in front of me.
“What happened”? He asked, opening the door and stepping aside to let me in. The memory of my time with Alora flooded back to me in waves.
“She is human” I muttered.
“Who?” Harry asked, brow furrowed.
“Alora. Alora is human.”
Harry stared at me for a beat. “You’re sure?”
I dragged my hand through my hair and dropped into the chair behind my desk. “Ragnar’s been screaming it at me for days.”
He stepped out and peered to his left and right before closing the door softly behind him with a click.
“Shit,” he muttered, looking at me with wide eyes.
I didn’t look at him. My fingers tapped the desk like they had a mind of their own.
“She’s human, Harry,” I said again, like saying it twice would make it less true. “A f**king human.”
“But what about the other day, you know, the day you mistakenly pushed her”?
“What about that day, Harry?” I asked.
“Morgan, I felt something. "I don’t think she is entirely human. "She may not be a werewolf, but she isn’t just human,” he insisted, drawing closer to me, almost whispering.
“What are you saying”?
He looked confused for a second before waving his hands dismissively. “Just…forget about what I said”, he replied.
“So what if she is human”? He continued.
I shot him a look. “What do you mean if she is human?”
“I mean… So what? Your wolf still chose her.”
“She’s not a wolf,” I snapped. “She’s not strong enough for this life." For my life. The pack would never accept a human as their Luna.
“If only she would accept to be their Luna”
I turned to Harry. “She doesn’t have a choice”, I snapped.
“I highly doubt that,” he smirked.
“What”?
“You seem to have forgotten so soon how she attacked you. "She may be human and look fragile, but she is sure a tough nut to crack…that one” he smiled fondly.
I felt a pang of jealousy and gritted my teeth.
Ragnar whimpered quietly at the back of my mind, agreeing with him.
I sighed
“She doesn’t belong in our world," Harry, she’s... fragile.”
“So you’re just going to walk away from the mate bond?”
“There is no bond”
Harry looked down at my trembling hands.
“Liar… You’ve been spiraling ever since she got here. Ragnar won’t shut up. You barely sleep. You can’t even look Violet in the eye anymore.”
“She’s human,” I repeated, but it came out hollow this time. Like the excuse was losing power.
“She’s yours,” Harry countered. Fate didn’t care what species she was. Why do you?”
I exhaled sharply. “An alpha cannot mate with a human. It’s not just forbidden, it’s suicide. The pack will never accept her. They’ll tear her apart the moment she makes one wrong move. "They expect a Luna who can command a room, not someone who jumps when a door slams.”
“Then train her.”
“She’s not ready.”
“She doesn’t have to be ready right now, Morgan, she just has to want to stand beside you. That’s all.”
“And what if she doesn’t?” I whispered. “What if she finds out what I am…what we are, and runs?”
Harry looked at me for a long moment. “Then you let her run. But don’t push her away before she even has the chance to choose you.”
I looked away. I’ll never let her go…not in this life.
“You said it yourself, she’s different. "You’re not just drawn to her, she grounds you,” he continued. “Violet walks in and you shut down. Alora walks in, and suddenly you’re not drowning anymore.”
My throat tightened. He wasn’t wrong. That was the part that scared me most.
“What do I do, Harry?”
He shrugged. “You start by being honest with yourself. Then maybe, just maybe... try being honest with her.”
Just then, the door flung open. Violet stood there, her eyes blazing with anger and hurt.
Morgan's POVViolet stalked close to me, her eyes full of anger. Harry’s eyes widened, he instinctively stepped between us, reaching out to steady her, but she jerked away from his touch and faced me.“What?” I asked, more startled by her tone than the question itself.“She just got here, and already you're fawning over her? Catching feelings like some lovesick pup?”“Violet,” Harry warned, his tone low. “He’s still your Alpha.”Violet turned to him, eyeing him from head to toe in disdain. “An alpha that cannot keep his emotions in check is not an alpha”, she snarled.I felt my anger begin to rise. “Violet Sinclair, you better watch the next thing that comes out of your mouth”, I gritted out, taking a step forward. She hesitated, stepping back. I could smell the fear. Then she began to cry.“She is not your mate, Alpha. She is human, she can never be your mate. You're an alpha king, not just an alpha”.&nb
Alora POV“He is here again”, I murmured to myself as I could feel the air shift in the room. I pulled my nightgown down to cover myself as cold and warmth enveloped me in a soothing embrace. It felt like a warm blanket had been wrapped around me. He smelled faintly of dark vanilla and something musky, something warm. I could feel his breath on my skin before the bed dipped. He pulled me closer and wrapped his hands around me. I closed my eyes and waited for his soothing murmurs in my ears. “Did you miss me”? He moaned into my ears.I gulped, nodded, and tried to look into his eyes but somehow I could not see his face. I desperately needed to see the face of the person who made my insides turn to puddles.I needed to look into his eyes. Were they dark, blue, brown, or hazel like mine? Then he began to trace his hands along my arms sending shivers down my spine. I whimpered and burrowed closer, but not close enough as I would have liked. Then a shrill sharp sound rented the air. It
Alora POV"She saw." one of the guards said, looking in the direction of the warm body I had earlier bumped into. The Hulk stepped forward. "Seize her and lock her up. The Alpha will decide her punishment."I barely had time to react before I was shoved to the ground, a heavy boot pressing against my back."Who sent you?" a deep voice growled above me."No one! I…I came on my own, please just let me go and I promise nobody will know about this, "I pleaded, tears beginning to form.A heavy silence followed. Then, a chuckle. "Take her to the cells. Let’s see what she knows." the deep voice of the Hulk resonated. “No, bring her to me” another deep voice that sent shivers down my spine echoed.I felt myself being dragged away as I struggled against my captor. I was visibly shaking as I was shoved and I tripped against my feet but instead of landing on my butt, I felt strong arms. The moment our skin touched, a sizzling heat rushed through me. Morgan’s POVThe moment I laid eyes on her I felt a pull towards her like I've never felt for another. I could feel every hair on my body standing on end and I could feel Ragnar, my wolf purring.“Mate” he purred and whimpered excitedly.“Mate”? He jumped around excitedly “Yes mate!”? He repliedI chuckled in disbelief. I could not believe it because I had been mateless for years. I was twenty eight years old but I had not been mated to anyone yet. It was one of the bones of contention in my life. I had everything, every power I needed under my feet, I was the youngest but strongest alpha with the strongest pack in the city but the only weakness I had was my inability to find my mate. It was the reason my gamma, Xavier, now a rogue wolf, had undermined my authority. It was the reason some of the alphas in neighboring territories disrespected me and encroached on my territory because they felt I was an anomaly. It was one of the reasons I had so many enemies. Morgan’s POV“You”? She finally spoke in a small voice, as if she could not believe her eyes.I went closer but the closer I was to her, the farther she shrank away from me. Just then, Harry came in with a tray of food and placed it on the stool beside the bed. She eyed the food hungrily while her stomach grumbled noisily.“Little one, I swear I am not going to hurt you. “Why? Why did you let me go then turn back and abduct me? Why am I here? She muttered weakly.“You need to eat,” I replied, ignoring her questions. I grabbed the plate of food from the tray and got closer, trying to coax her to eat. Without warning, she snatched the plate from my hand and hurled it across the room. The plate hit the wall and shattered, and all its contents flew everywhere. Then she lunged. For a moment, I was stunned. This little wolf was stronger and fiercer than I’d expected. I could see the veins in his neck popping out. I frowned. He was so intense all I could do was just watch him. Harry nodded and began to pack the plates while he pushed a chair forward and sat do
Alora’s POVI pushed her away with all the force I could muster “What are you doing”? She looked menacing with her angry face, her blonde hair covered part of her face while her whole body vibrated with anger. Who were these people? Why were they acting weird? What was with me today really? I couldn’t stop being violent but that was expected given I was taken from my home against my wish. “I do not owe you any explanation” I replied, holding her stare. Before I could process what was going on, she pinned me down on the bed, and knelt close with one knee between mine. Then she sniffed me like a wild beast. I flinched and turned my face away. “Your scent is not entirely that of a werewolf and it is not that of a human either” she said, surprise e
Morgan's Pov“What’s the hurry?” I asked Harry immediately when we left the room. He averted my gaze and kept walking“Harry!” I snapped, halting midstep. Alora’s POVHe was here again with me in the room…I felt him when he came in. He looked worried and the energy radiating from his body was sad. I felt a pang of pity and my heart constricted. What could have made him so sad? I needed to soothe his sadness away. He came close to where I was lying. I could feel the heat radiating from him…warm and comforting as always. I still could not see his face. He felt closer and more familiar than ever. His scent teased my nostrils…that musky woody scent that accompanied him wherever he was near. I had begun to feel heady with want. My insides turned to mush as he reached out and touched me, wrapping his large hands around me. I held onto his hands like a lifeline. “I need to see your face” I whined but he said nothing except groan…no, that was a moan. His scent was getting stronger and intoxicating but he was letting go of me.“No, Please stay with me” I whimpered, holding onto his hands that were leaving my grasp. I had no control over it.
