Everyone knew that the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack loved his mate more than anything. I once thought I would be the luckiest Luna in the world. That was until six months ago, when my father’s illegitimate daughter, Ivy, returned from rogue territory. Caleb recognized her as the she-wolf who had taken a lethal blow to save him during a rogue ambush years ago. Everything changed after that. During every date, Ivy would have a "relapse" right on cue. Caleb would always offer a strained explanation about how he owed her his life. I endured it countless times, lying to myself that it was just a debt of gratitude. But at our mating ceremony, Ivy collapsed, knocking over the champagne tower. "Caleb... it hurts... my heart..." The usually composed Caleb panicked and stopped the ceremony. He looked at me with guilt. "Evelyn, Ivy’s wolf was severely injured saving me. She’s still so fragile. It’s an emergency. You’ve always been understanding—can you just let this go for now?" "Go ahead," I said calmly. "Take her to the Healer." Caleb froze, then promised hurriedly, "Once she's stable, I’ll make it up to you with an even bigger ceremony." He didn't even wait for my reply before rushing off with Ivy in his arms. I watched him leave and dialed a number I hadn't touched in years. "Alpha King Silas, I accept the five-year classified Silver Poisoning research project." When I finally disappeared, Caleb regretted everything, searching the entire world for a trace of me.

Chapter 1

At our mating ceremony, Caleb and I had just finished our vows before the Moon Goddess.

The pack was cheering when my stepsister, Ivy, collapsed by the champagne tower, shattering glass everywhere.

"Caleb... it hurts... my heart..." she whimpered.

Caleb panicked. Without even glancing at me on the altar, he rushed down and pulled Ivy into his arms. "Ivy! Hang on, I’m here!"

He turned and announced to the crowd, "The ceremony is postponed."

The guests whispered, and their stares felt like needles. Caleb looked up at me. "Evelyn, Ivy’s wolf was badly hurt for my sake. She’s still very weak. It's a life-or-death situation. You're the bigger person here—can you please just step aside this once?"

I gripped my bouquet until my knuckles turned white.

I had loved Caleb for five years. From the moment I joined the pack, he was the only one I saw.

When I turned eighteen and found out he was my fated mate, I thought I was the luckiest person alive.

Caleb had always been good to me, guarding me during full moons and gathering medicinal herbs for me.

Until six months ago, when Ivy returned. Caleb recognized her as his savior from that rogue attack.

Since then, Ivy always had a "medical emergency" during our dates. Caleb always played the "life-saving debt" card.

I had put up with it, but I was done.

"Go," I said. "Get her to a Healer."

Caleb seemed stunned. He probably expected tears or for me to beg him to stay. Seeing me so compliant, his expression softened with a hint of guilt.

"Evelyn, thank you for being so understanding," he promised. "I'll give you a much better ceremony once she's okay." He didn't even wait for me to speak before rushing off with her.

I took out my phone and called a long-hidden number. "Alpha King Silas, I’m taking your offer."

Silas’s voice was deep and serious. "Are you sure, Evelyn? It's a secret mission to study the deadliest Silver Poisoning agents. It’s for five years. You have to go completely off the grid—no contact with your pack, and there's a real risk of death. Have you really thought this through?"

I looked at the direction where Caleb had disappeared. "I have. I only stayed here for him. Now, there’s nothing holding me back. As Chief Healer, I’d rather serve the entire werewolf race."

Silas sighed. "Fine. I’ll send a security team to pick you up in twenty-four hours."

I went home and found my father, Thomas, ransacking my study. My mother’s ancient healing manuscripts were scattered all over the floor.

"What are you doing?" I asked coldly.

Thomas stiffened, then straightened up defensively. "Evelyn, good, you’re back. Ivy just got here and she’s still weak. She has no standing in this pack. I’ve decided you should step down as Chief Healer and give the position to her."

He looked at me with a demanding tone. "She suffered so much with the rogues. Without this title, people will look down on her. You’re going to be Luna anyway. Caleb will protect you. You don't need this title."

Ivy was leaning against the doorframe, her eyes red as if she were about to faint. "Dad, don't... Evelyn worked so hard for this... I don't want to cause trouble... If the pack doesn't want me, I can just go back to my old shack in the woods..."

Thomas looked at her with pity and turned to yell at me, "Look how selfless she is! And look at you—selfish and cold! Don't you have a shred of compassion?"

I felt nothing. This was my father, handing over the position I had spent years researching and risking my life for to an illegitimate daughter who just showed up.

"If you want it that badly, take it," I said with a cold laugh. "This pack is a joke anyway, so a fake healer is a perfect match for a pathetic pack like this. You deserve each other."

Thomas was speechless. He had never heard me be so sharp. "You ungrateful brat!" he screamed as I walked away.

I went to my room and started packing.

The next morning, I went to the villa Caleb and I were supposed to share. Moving men were carrying things into the master bedroom. My silk pajamas were thrown in trash bags by the hallway.

Caleb walked out of the room, looking a bit guilty for a second. "Evelyn, the Healer said Ivy’s wolf is unstable. she needs to be near Alpha energy to recover. I’m moving her into the master bedroom for a while. You’ll have to use the guest room. Don't take it the wrong way; it’s just for her treatment. Once we finish the mating ceremony, I’ll redecorate a room just for you."
