“You two managed to survive without killing one another?” Madeline asked, opening the house’s door for the two of us. Her brown eyes meeting my own as she teased both Scarlett and I. My beauty, having been drained before we made our way back, was now half asleep as we entered.

I had my arm wrapped around Scarlett, and shaking my head at Madeline, the two of us entered the house. I watched as Scarlett took off her coat, hanging it inside the coat closet by the door before she looked at Madeline.

“Hello to you, Madeline” Scarlett said, looking at Ivan who walked toward the door, smiling at the two of us. Scarlett didn’t return the smile, and I knew why; the last time they saw one another didn’t end too well between them. That was one fact that we needed to work on.
