LOGINMelody's POV
Asher's reaction gave me the answers I came looking for. “So it's true,” I said softly. His brow furrowed. “You really did a fertility-binding procedure and didn't tell me about it,” I continued. His jaw tightened. “That's not the issue right now,” he said. My eyes burned with tears and my voice broke as I spoke. “For three years, you watched me hope. Every month I thought maybe this would be the month, every time the test was negative, you held me while I cried. You told me not to give up. You told me we'd have our child someday.” I shook my head slightly. “All those times, you knew. You knew it was your fault we couldn't have children.” “Melody,” he said. His voice was low. “Was that why you always consoled me?” I continued as tears blurred my vision. “Was it because you knew I was blaming myself for something you already knew wasn't my fault?” His expression changed. “That isn't what this is about.” “Then what is it about?” I asked, my voice rose slightly. He stepped closer. “How are you pregnant, Melody?” His voice was calm but I could sense the anger underneath. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I don't know either. I had asked myself the same question ever since I left the hospital. “I...” My voice faltered. Asher stepped closer again, stopping inches away from my face. “How?” I shook my head. “I don't know.” His eyes darkened. “You don't know?” “I took the test this morning. I thought it was wrong, so I went to the hospital and Dr. Ashton confirmed it.” He snatched the test results from my hands, unfolded the paper and looked at it. When his eyes scanned the words, his face became colder. “How the hell did you get pregnant if you weren't cheating on me?” He asked, his voice was raised now. My heart stopped. “What?” The word came out as a broken whisper. “I can't father a child, Melody, so why do you have a positive pregnancy test result?” My eyes widened. The pain that ripped through my chest was so sharp I had to take a step backward. “You think I'm cheating on you?” “You think I've been sleeping with another man?” “Who's the father?” He barked, ignoring my questions. “I've never cheated on you, Asher.” My voice trembled. I pressed a hand against my chest as I continued. “I have never even looked at another man the way I look at you and I don't intend to.” Tears spilled down my cheeks. “You're my mate. The only man I've ever loved.” His jaw tightened and he looked at me with a coldness I have never seen directed at me before. He stepped closer. “I accepted you as my mate. I gave you everything, and this is how you repay me?” I could hear the pain in his voice. I shook my head and reached for his hand but he immediately pulled back like my touch stung him. “No. Asher, that's not…” His eyes darkened and his voice dropped into a dangerous growl. He stepped closer until there was barely any space between us. “If you won't tell me who the father is, I'll find him myself. And when I do, he'll wish he never crossed paths with you.” My heart shattered at his words. He still doesn't believe me. “There is no one else,” I whispered as tears ran down my cheeks. He suddenly threw the pregnancy test results on the floor. The paper fluttered between us before landing near my feet. Then he walked past me. “Asher!” I called but he didn't look back. He stormed towards the door, his shoulders rigid with anger. The door slammed behind him with such force that shook the entire room. I flinched. I stared at the closed door in shock. Then my knees gave way and I sank onto the floor, covering my mouth as a sob escaped my lips. A heavy sob tore through me. I pressed both hands over my face, but the tears wouldn't stop. My mate thinks I cheated on him. This wasn't how today was supposed to go. This morning, I had imagined the look on his face when he realized that after three years of waiting, our family was finally growing. Instead, I was sitting alone on the floor while the man I love believes I've betrayed him. My chest hurts. It feels as though something inside me has been ripped apart. Beneath my own grief, I could feel my wolf’s confusion and pain. She feels Asher's accusations too. I wrapped my arms around myself and sobbed harder. My eyes landed on the pregnancy test results lying on the floor. That little piece of paper had once been something I was looking forward to seeing, but now, it's looking like the beginning of a nightmare.Melody's POVBy the time my mother and I reached the Grand Hall, more than half of the pack had already gathered. The massive doors stood open, allowing the cool evening air to drift inside. The Grand Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Shadows Pack territory. Its high stone walls were decorated with the emblems of every Blackwood Alpha who had ruled before Asher. Huge chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting warm golden light across the polished floor. At the front of the hall was the raised platform where the Alpha Council usually sat during important pack gatherings.Tonight, every seat on the platform was occupied. The entire Alpha Council was present. Asher was seated in the middle, his expression was hard and unreadable. My heart gave a painful squeeze the moment I saw him, my wolf stirred immediately.Mate.The familiar longing spread through my chest. I hated the fact that even after everything he said to me and accused me of, some part of me still wanted to run to him. T
Melody’s POV I couldn't count how many times I cried in the last two days. The tears seem to have become part of this room. I curled beneath the blankets, staring at the curtains drawn across the tall windows of our bedroom.Everything here brought back memories of Asher. The enormous bed we've shared for three years, the dark wooden dresser he insisted on having because he said it matched the rest of the room, the framed photograph of us from the winter festival last year, his watch lying carelessly on the bedside table because he always forgot to put it away, even his scent lingered faintly on his side of the bed.He hasn't slept here in two nights. The first night, I thought he simply needed space to think but by the second night, I knew he was avoiding me.I went to his office yesterday but the guards at the entrance of the corridor didn't let me in. According to them, Asher was busy and had instructed them not to let anyone in, not even me. I felt humiliated and the looks of pit
Asher’s POVThe morning air was cool against my skin. Mist still clung to the edges of the forest surrounding our territory, and the first rays of sunlight were beginning to spill across the open field. The familiar sounds of training reached me before I even stepped onto the grounds. I could hear grunts, footsteps, sharp impact of fists against flesh and warriors calling out instructions to one another. It's been two days since I found out about Melody's pregnancy and I haven't spoken to her since then.I had gone to Dr. Ashton's office later that day to confirm if there was any possibility of the fertility-binding losing its effect on its own but he told me that the only way I can father a child is if the procedure is undone.I walked out of that hospital feeling more betrayed than when I first confronted Melody. She cheated on me and was bold enough to look me in the eyes and swear she has never been with another man.Was she really that desperate for a child?Had three years of wa

Asher's POVI leaned back in my chair and stared at the documents spread across my desk. The partnership agreement between Blackwood Corporation and Stone Group was sitting at the top of the pile.I had read the same paragraph three times but I couldn't absorb a single word because my mind was on a certain person.Veronica.I never expected to see her again, at least not this soon. When she walked through my door earlier with a folder containing the final documents for the partnership, I was caught completely off guard. She looked exactly as I remembered; beautiful, confident and perfectly composed. This is the woman I had once believed I would spend the rest of my life with.Veronica and I were together for years. Her father is the Beta of this pack, he was my father's best friend. We grew up around each other and somewhere along the line, friendship turned into love, real love.I was so certain she would become my Luna, I couldn't imagine a future without her but then, the Moon Godd
Melody's POVI walked away from Asher's office without making a sound. I didn't even know how my legs were carrying me.I pressed a trembling hand against my abdomen but all I could hear was Veronica's voice: “Alexander said that you guys are trying to have a baby.”And then Asher's cold response: “You heard wrong.”Why would he lie?Unless Veronica was telling the truth. Is it possible that Asher would keep something like this away from me for three whole years?I shook my head."No," the word escaped my lips before I could stop it.Asher wouldn't do that.He wouldn't.The Asher I know is stubborn, intimidating, and sometimes impossible to reason with, but he would never deliberately lie to me about something this important.I reached the entrance of the private corridor. The two guards stood there, exactly where they had been when I came in.The moment they saw me, they straightened and bowed their heads respectfully but I walked past without acknowledging either of them. I could ba
