INICIAR SESIÓNAfter three years of waiting, Melody finally has the one thing she and her mate, Alpha Asher have always dreamed of; a baby. But her joy turns to horror when she overhears a secret about Asher's past: he was never supposed to be able to father a child. When Asher discovers Melody is pregnant, he doesn't celebrate. Instead, he accuses his own mate of betrayal. Rejected, humiliated, and abandoned by the man she loves, Melody leaves Shadows Pack with a broken heart and a child growing inside her. But her unborn child isn't just a miracle, someone wants the baby dead. And the truth behind Asher's infertility is far more dangerous than Melody ever imagined. Who is the child's father? Why was Asher's fertility taken from him? And what happens when the truth finally comes to light?
Ver másMelody's POV
I stared at the two pink lines for what felt like an eternity. When I blinked and looked again, they were still there. My lips parted, but no sound came out. For three years, I've had countless pregnancy tests and they all came out negative. Each time I waited for the results, I would tell myself not to get my hopes up but still, a small part of me would hope that maybe this time would be different. My fingers trembled as I lowered the test. "I'm pregnant." The words barely left my lips before a disbelieving breathless laugh followed. I covered my mouth with one hand as tears filled my eyes. "I'm pregnant," I said again, louder this time. My wolf stirred excitedly inside me, I could feel her happiness flooding through me. Our baby. Asher's baby. I pressed a trembling hand against my stomach. It's been three years of doctor appointments, herbal remedies, whispered prayers and nights when I cried silently because I was terrified that I would never be able to give my mate the child we both dreamed of, but Asher never once blamed me. Whenever I cried, he would pull me into his arms and tell me that I was enough, that our bond was enough and he would choose me with or without pups. Those words made me love him even more. I wiped my tears quickly. I can't just sit here crying, I need to tell him. I couldn't wait to see the expression on his face when I told him. Knowing Asher, he'd probably pick me up and spin me around in excitement. I smiled at the thought. Still clutching the pregnancy test, I hurried into our bedroom to change. I wanted to look beautiful when I told him. I slipped into a simple cream dress, brushed my hair, and put on my favorite strawberry lip gloss. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I couldn't stop smiling. I left our bedroom and stepped into the private wing of the Alpha's quarters. When I got to the private corridor that leads to Asher's office, I saw two armed guards standing at the entrance. "Good morning, Luna," they both greeted. "Good morning," I responded with a nod. One of them gave me a strange look as I walked past but I couldn't be bothered with whatever that look meant. I was just too excited about this baby. I tightened my grip around the small box that held the pregnancy test. I got to the end of the corridor and walked towards Asher's office. I was about to push the door open when I heard a woman's laughter from inside. My smile immediately disappeared as I recognized the voice. I haven't heard it in years but I sure knew who it belonged to. Veronica Stone. The Beta’s daughter and the woman who had once been at the center of Asher's world. For a moment, I couldn't move. Veronica and I couldn't have been more different. Hey family is one of the richest in this city. She was born into wealth, power, and privilege, while I was the daughter of a Gamma and a woman who spent years working as a maid in the Blackwood household. Growing up, I was made to understand that there was a huge gap between people like Veronica and people like me. And when it came to Asher, that difference felt even greater. I've loved him long before he ever looked at me as anything more than the daughter of the maid who worked for his family. It wasn't until Veronica left, after the Moon Goddess revealed that Asher was my fated mate that he finally began to see me. While everyone else gave him space to fall apart, I stayed. I was there when his family's company began to crumble and his life seemed to be falling apart with it. I listened when he needed someone to listen, and I stayed when he pushed everyone else away. Now, three years later, I am his wife and Luna. I believed that Veronica was nothing more than a painful chapter in his past but standing outside this door, I wasn't so sure anymore. What if the only thing between Asher and I is just the mate bond and he never really stopped loving Veronica. My fingers tightened around the pregnancy test. I had come here bursting with excitement, ready to tell Asher that we were finally going to have the child we've spent three years dreaming about but I don't know if I can walk through this door. I don't know if my heart can take seeing Asher and Veronica together again. I turned to walk away when I heard Veronica speak. “Alexander said that you guys are trying to have a baby." She's probably talking about Alexander Hamilton. He's one of the wealthy young men in this city and a close friend of both Asher and Veronica. They've known each other for years, moving in the same circles and attending the same elite gatherings. Alexander is one of the few friends Asher genuinely trusts, which means whatever he told Veronica was probably something he heard directly from Asher. So Alexander told Veronica about our struggles to have a baby. But why was she asking Asher about it now? "You heard wrong," Asher replied in a cold tone. My blood became cold as I stared at the narrow opening of the door. Why would he say that? Veronica let out a soft, amused laugh. "That's interesting," she said in an amused tone. "Well, you need to tell Alexander then. I can't exactly tell him that you got your tubes tied for me, can I?" She chuckled. The world seemed like it just paused for several seconds. I couldn't understand what I just heard. Asher got his tubes tied? What the hell is Veronica talking about?Melody’s POV I couldn't count how many times I cried in the last two days. The tears seem to have become part of this room. I curled beneath the blankets, staring at the curtains drawn across the tall windows of our bedroom.Everything here brought back memories of Asher. The enormous bed we've shared for three years, the dark wooden dresser he insisted on having because he said it matched the rest of the room, the framed photograph of us from the winter festival last year, his watch lying carelessly on the bedside table because he always forgot to put it away, even his scent lingered faintly on his side of the bed.He hasn't slept here in two nights. The first night, I thought he simply needed space to think but by the second night, I knew he was avoiding me.I went to his office yesterday but the guards at the entrance of the corridor didn't let me in. According to them, Asher was busy and had instructed them not to let anyone in, not even me. I felt humiliated and the looks of pit
Asher’s POVThe morning air was cool against my skin. Mist still clung to the edges of the forest surrounding our territory, and the first rays of sunlight were beginning to spill across the open field. The familiar sounds of training reached me before I even stepped onto the grounds. I could hear grunts, footsteps, sharp impact of fists against flesh and warriors calling out instructions to one another. It's been two days since I found out about Melody's pregnancy and I haven't spoken to her since then.I had gone to Dr. Ashton's office later that day to confirm if there was any possibility of the fertility-binding losing its effect on its own but he told me that the only way I can father a child is if the procedure is undone.I walked out of that hospital feeling more betrayed than when I first confronted Melody. She cheated on me and was bold enough to look me in the eyes and swear she has never been with another man.Was she really that desperate for a child?Had three years of wa
Melody's POV Asher's reaction gave me the answers I came looking for.“So it's true,” I said softly. His brow furrowed.“You really did a fertility-binding procedure and didn't tell me about it,” I continued. His jaw tightened.“That's not the issue right now,” he said.My eyes burned with tears and my voice broke as I spoke.“For three years, you watched me hope. Every month I thought maybe this would be the month, every time the test was negative, you held me while I cried. You told me not to give up. You told me we'd have our child someday.”I shook my head slightly.“All those times, you knew. You knew it was your fault we couldn't have children.”“Melody,” he said. His voice was low.“Was that why you always consoled me?” I continued as tears blurred my vision.“Was it because you knew I was blaming myself for something you already knew wasn't my fault?”His expression changed.“That isn't what this is about.”“Then what is it about?” I asked, my voice rose slightly. He stepped
Asher's POVI leaned back in my chair and stared at the documents spread across my desk. The partnership agreement between Blackwood Corporation and Stone Group was sitting at the top of the pile.I had read the same paragraph three times but I couldn't absorb a single word because my mind was on a certain person.Veronica.I never expected to see her again, at least not this soon. When she walked through my door earlier with a folder containing the final documents for the partnership, I was caught completely off guard. She looked exactly as I remembered; beautiful, confident and perfectly composed. This is the woman I had once believed I would spend the rest of my life with.Veronica and I were together for years. Her father is the Beta of this pack, he was my father's best friend. We grew up around each other and somewhere along the line, friendship turned into love, real love.I was so certain she would become my Luna, I couldn't imagine a future without her but then, the Moon Godd
