Ashton has led away to the special cell 'made specifically for him'. He did not know what was in those handcuffs, but whatever it was, it was draining the life out of him.

Every passing minute felt like a century to him as he felt the life force in him drain out one bit after the other.

"What did you use to prepare this handcuff?" Ashton asked the person leading him with much difficulty. He felt that he could not breathe well after uttering that one sentence. Every step he took left him feeling like he was carrying one thousand tons of load on his shoulder.
