Baylor POV
The next morning when I woke, Kenneth was sitting on the couch and I could hear that Mitchum was showering. Kenneth looked deep in thought so I asked, “Hey man, are you ok?” He nodded in response. “Yeah dude, I was just trying to think of a logical explanation of why these guys wanted to talk to you.” His brow was furrowed and I could tell that he was definitely concerned. Then he spoke again, “You know if for some reason the authorities have caught on to who we are, they can force you back to Monroeville since you’re only 16. Mitchum will be 18 in three months so it would be pointless for them to drag him back, and I have been 18 since January so they can’t take me.”
I slung an arm over his shoulder and said, “Fuck that man, I am going nowhere near that place ever again. Besides, if it was that, don't you think they would have just taken me right then and there?” His mood seemed to lighten a bit and he said, “I guess, I didn’t think of that.” I patted his shoulder and said, “We are the three musketeers, nothing will ever pull us apart. Not even girls, bros before hoes, you jump, I jump.”
We started laughing and Mitchum came out of the bathroom at that moment and said, “What are you fuckers laughing at?” “Your ugly mug, fucker!” I said as I continued to laugh louder. “Man you guys are just assholes,” Mitchum sulks and he walks to the kitchen area grabbing a toaster pastry and a can of soda. Kenneth ever the peace maker amongst us says, “Don’t get your panties in a wad bro, we were having a deep conversation about the note Bay got yesterday. Then he said something to lighten the mood and we were laughing at that.”
Mitchum sat on the floor in front of us and thoughtfully opened his breakfast and said, “Yeah, so what are you going to do about that whole thing, Bay?” I reached down and stole half of one of the pastries and bit in before I said, “What’s to do? I don’t know who those guys were and I can’t see where they would have anything actually important to say to me.” Of course that’s when the voice in my head decides to pipe up and say “They are pack and they will not hurt us. You shouldn’t ignore their note.” Oh for pete’s sake can’t this voice just go the fuck away already. “Not happening, I am your wolf. I am part of you and you are part of me,” Shammus a.k.a. The voice in my head says.
Mitchum says, “Bay, they gave you a great tip and they just wanted you to call them. Maybe it is something cool, like a free ski pass for next season or something.” Leave it to Mitchum to come up with something ridiculous. I was just about to rag on him about that when Kenneth spoke again. “Listen, it might not be some sort of free shit. But maybe they thought you provided good service and maybe it’s a job offer or something. Maybe you should just call and find out what it is they want.” I sat there thinking for a moment and then said, “Fuck it, I guess I’ll call.”
I got up and walked over to where my jeans last night were and reached into the pocket to grab the note. I dialed the number on my phone and hit send. “Gilded Inn, Britney speaking, how may I make your day better?” the chirpy voice on the other end answered. “Good morning Britney, may I be connected to the presidential suite please?” I asked even though I wanted to just hang up. “Hold please and I will transfer your call.”
I started pacing the floor as the phone began to ring; once, twice, and in the middle of the third ring a someone answered, “Maidin mhaith, I mean good morning Clive Kelly speaking.” His voice sounds a little weird, like with an accent of some sort, but I couldn’t tell you what kind. “Good morning Mr. Kelly, I don’t know if you remember me from yesterday, but this is Baylor, your server and you left a note with your extremely generous tip for me to call you.” I hear a long sigh come through the receiver and then he continues, “Ah yes,Baylor. I was beginning to wonder if you had gotten my note at all.”
I fidgeted a little as I continued to pace, then I spoke, “Yeah sorry about that, the situation was a little weird to me and I wasn’t sure I was going to call at all.” Mr. Kelly chuckled, “Well I am pleased that you did, as I have something very important to discuss with you. How soon can you come to meet with my group and I?” I wasn’t going alone so I said, “I don’t keep anything from my best friends sir. There is nothing you have to tell me that is so private that they can’t be there.”
I heard a sigh on the other end before Clive spoke again, “That is where you and I see things very differently, but very well bring them. But there are certain things you may not want them to know.” I was persistent though and said, “Like I said, I don’t keep anything from my friends.” “Ok, let me ask you this then, Have you told them about the voice in your head?” Clive questioned and the blood drained from my face. How could this stranger know about the voice in my head? Had he heard me in the restaurant yesterday when I muttered under my breath for ‘Shammus’ to knock it off?
“Hello? Baylor are you still there?” Clive asked, sounding unsure. “I…uh…yes I am still here,” I answered, realizing I had gone silent. “I see. So you haven’t told them that. How about a compromise then? How about you and your friends meet my group and I in the large conference room here at The Gilded Inn in say 30 minutes. We can step to the other side of the conference room to discuss matters privately and then you can decide for yourself what, if anything, you want to tell your friends,” Mr. Kelly proposed. “Ok fine Mr.Kelly. I will call a cab and my friends and I will head to the Inn. It may take a bit longer than 30 minutes, but we will be there,” I told him. “Ok Baylor, we will see you then,” he replied.
As I hang up the phone I look at the guys and say, “I am sorry to drag you guys into this, but I don’t want to go alone.” Kenneth just grins a playful grin and says, “You jump, I jump.” Mitchum looks from me to Kenneth and back and says, “All for one and one for all.” These guys truly are my very best friends in the entire world. I just grin at the two of them and say, “Now I need one of you two to call a cab for us. Then I am going to grab a super quick shower.”
As the cab drove through town to the inn the guys were silent and that was fine by me, I was lost in my own thoughts. What could this Clive Kelly as he called himself possibly know about the voice in my head? As the cab stopped in front of the inn, I paid the fare and we all got out to go inside.
At the front desk was none other than the chirpy Britney. “Good morning boys, how can I help you?” I stepped forward and said I was supposed to be meeting Mr. Kelly in the large conference room. Britney reached down and pressed a button on the switchboard and began to speak, “Stacy, I am going to be away from my desk for 5-10 minutes. So you will have to answer the phone if it rings.” She removed her headset and said, “If you boys will follow me, I can take you to the conference room.” She tilted her head towards the hall on the left and waved her hand in a come ahead motion.
Britney led us down a long hall and then turned right at the next hall and pointed to the elevators pushing the up button. “You boys take this to the third floor and take a right out of the elevator and it will be the second door on your left. ”Thank you,” I said as the elevator slid closed. My anxiety was building as we ascended to the third floor and my stomach felt like I ate cement for breakfast instead of the half toaster pastry I had snatched from Mitchum.
Baylor POVWhen we walked through the door of the conference room ’Shammus’ started chanting again as the staring guy came forward with his hand extended to shake mine. “Baylor, good to see you. I am Clive Kelly and this is Phineas Brody my best friend as you would say. The other fellows here are Fergus, Aidin, and Arthur,” Clive said as introductions. “This is Kenneth Goldberg and Mitchum Averman, my best friends.” Clive began to speak, “Right well, Kenneth and Mitchum can….” but Phineas cut him off, “It isn’t going to be necessary, these are the other two I could smell yesterday.” Clive gave him a curious look and said, “I truly can’t smell them are you sure?” Phineas nodded and said, “Yes, I told you something smelled off. It is like they are bound.” Mitchum pipes in, “Listen we just showered this morning and none of us stink. So, I don’t know what you’re smelling that’s off, but it isn’t us.” Clive chuckled and said, “Oh dear, this just became more complex. Well come on let’s ev
Baylor POVWe pulled up in front of the apartment and I began to feel gleefully anxious. I was getting my life long dream to make it to Ireland and my whole life was changing. As the fellas and I got out of the car I turned back and said, “Thank you Fergus.” He gave a salute and said, “The pleasure is mine, Alpha Baylor.” When we walked into the apartment, the place where my 2 best friends and I have lived for the past couple years, it hit me. “Guys we are moving to Ireland, I can’t think of anyone else I would rather have with me than the two of you,” I said becoming more excited. “I can’t believe I am a werewolf and never knew it,” Kenneth replied. I was glad Kenneth was excited like I am even if Mitchum was still skeptical. “Listen, I don’t know if I believe all of this crap. But I am not going to let you dorks go have fun without me,'' Mitchum taunted. “You’ll see when we get there” Kenneth stated. I just shook my head and started taking clothes off of hangers and folding them wh
Baylor POVClive was shaking my shoulder to wake me and when I opened my eyes he said, “The fasten seatbelts sign has just come on. We’ll be landing soon.” I nodded my head in acknowledgement and straightened in my seat and fastened my belt. We landed without difficulty and the plane taxied to the gait. Once we were given the word that we could depart from the plane, I turned to see Kenneth and Mitchum grinning like a couple of loons. I just shook my head and said, “Come on guys, let's go get our luggage.” We followed Clive and the rest of the men to baggage claim and grabbed our luggage. There was a van waiting outside and after we loaded our things into the back we climbed in. The driver turned and said, “Is it really him, The young alpha heir at long last?” It took me a second to remember that it was me he was referring to and then I held out my hand and said, “Hi, I am Baylor Dunne. Nice to meet you.” The man shook my hand and nodded head and tilted it to the side and said, “The
Baylor POVAlpha Colin stepped into our room at 5:00 a.m. and turned on the lights bellowing, “Time is wasting lads and it is something we have very little of. Meet me at the training grounds in 30 minutes.” Mitchum groaned, “We don’t even know where that is.” Alpha Colin laughed and said, “Then I suggest you make haste, so that you are there in time. You don’t want to know what happens when you are late.” I rolled off the bed and stumbled to where our suitcases sat on the floor. I opened mine and grabbed a pair of shorts, a muscle shirt with the sides open, and my running shoes. Kenneth had grabbed similar clothing, while Mitchum sat on the side of his bed still sulking. I looked at Mitchum and said, “We are leaving in 5 minutes, with or without you. Get your ass up and get ready!” Kenneth and I made our way to the kitchen to grab water bottles and since we were engrossed in our own conversation, we almost ran into the woman who was bustling around the kitchen preparing to make bre
Baylor POV After dinner I sat down with Alpha Colin again to ask some questions that had come to mind. “How is the pack hierarchy decided and what positions need to be filled?” I asked though I had some idea based on what Clive had told me. “You’ll need a Beta, Gamma, Delta if you choose to have one and a lead warrior. Your Beta should be the person you trust most, not only with your own life but the lives and well being of your pack. The person you know would lead your pack to continue to survive in your absence,” Alpha Colin stated. “Was my father’s Beta Neil untrustworthy? My pack survived only because you and the other Alphas that my father was aligned with provided asylum to my people,” I asked because the truth was, it should have been Neil that took over. “No absolutely not, Neil was one of the most noble men I have ever known. Cillian would never have been able to do the damage he did if the pack hadn’t been grieving so deeply. You and your parents were loved and respected b
Baylor POV As I came down the stairs and entered the lounge area, I noticed Phoebe carrying a large platter of burgers towards the front door. “Hey there Phoebe, can I give you a hand with that?” “If you could hold open the door Alpha, I would be very grateful.” “What is all this for anyway? Aren’t you coming to the shift and pack run?” “Aye, Alpha I am. But I am after setting everything up so that the elders who usually don’t participate can start the food on the grill.” “Oh, ok. Is this something that happens with every pack run?” “Yea, shifting takes a lot of energy and well, running does too.” “Ok Phoebe, just make sure you make it out to the training grounds so you can enjoy yourself. It hasn’t gone unnoticed how much you do for the pack every day all day and you deserve to cut loose with the rest of us, probably more so.” “Don’t worry about me Alpha, I wouldn’t miss it. I have me eye on a gent and would like to see if the Moon Goddess has decided to send me my fated.” I smil
Kenneth POV In my periphery I see Clive approaching fast and but I am staring at Phoebe as she reaches a hand forward to touch my arm. The little electrical tingles startle me, “What the fuck was that?” Phoebe looks like she might cry and I don’t want her to cry and Clive puts his hand on my arm. “Kenneth, are you okay, tell me what’s going on?” “Well, we just came back from the run and I was shifting back and I smelled peanut butter cups and fresh rain and I saw Phoebe. As I started walking towards her, the scent intensified. But then she stopped in front of me and said ‘mate’ and then she zapped my arm.” I can honestly say I have never seen a man laugh quite as hard as Clive did in that moment. He turned his head towards Phoebe and said, “Well little sister, it seems the reason you hadn’t found your mate was he’s a bit younger and an American until recently. Kenneth, my apologies, I didn’t even think to tell you fellows that you could possibly find your fated mates tonight.” As
Unknown POV Well look at here, they’ve found the little bastard heir and brought him home. I was sure that he had died in the crash with his parents. I did after all pay a great deal of money to ensure there were no survivors. When I received word that the task was complete, I made my move to make Skatom Mochain mine. It seems I have a refund to collect for the incomplete job. Oh, and they will pay with more than money, they will pay with blood! Skatom Mochain never even saw me coming until it was far too late. Beta Neil, his mate Adele and their son Clifford were the first that I killed. Then I moved onto Gamma Richard’s pregnant mate Ashley, I almost considered drawing that one out with a bit of extra fun but knew that I had to move swiftly, knowing that it wouldn’t take long for Gamma Richard or the Elite pack warriors to discover that the beta family had been murdered. With the hierarchy out of the way, my army of rogues and I began taking out warriors and skilled fighters swif
