Blake P.O.V.

Morning makes honest liars out of all of us and by the time the sky goes pale over Silver Dawn, the field looks like it never learned what we did here last night, just frost on old grass, chalk ghosts, and a ring of tired people pretending their bones don’t creak. Freya’s warlocks police the circle with quiet hands while Oloron checks the seam on Celine’s new box every six seconds like a man making sure the door he just locked is still a door. Tara sits on the anchor stone with both babies and Mindy, the shadows drowse at their feet like well-fed cats. Elira stayed back at the packhouse, resting to be here when we come back and Mindy needs a break. It’s a good call on their account, and I’m proud of them for making it.

We split the work. Cassie marshals the vault convoy with a list, a glare, and three redundancies. She’ll take Caitlyn to the Council under enough layers of warding to make a god sweat while Elliott runs flanks like chaos on a leash. Tabs and Talia ride sho

  • Alpha Blake's Broken Luna    Family time

Blake P.O.V.We open the long room and terrass and the pack pours in like a flood. Omegas stack stew in big pots and bread in baskets and desserts I don’t deserve in a line that could make a saint sin. The noise starts unsure, then finds itself and it’s the best sound I know.Allie and I make the rounds. Not because we want to be seen, but because we want to see. Kieran’s got stitches in his eyebrow and a grin that says he earned them as he holds up his spoon like a toast and I salute him with mine. Mrs. Velasquez from the laundry glares at my filthy jacket and then hugs me hard enough to take my breath and smacks me for making her worry. The four boys from the playground stop three feet away and look at Tara like she’s a storm and she waves them closer and Athena flings mush at them and now they’re conspirators for life.“Five minutes,” Cassie hisses at me from the kitchen door, pointing her ladle like a weapon. “You get five minutes of remarks and then I’m cutting the electricity to

  • Alpha Blake's Broken Luna    Celine in the circle (Part two)

Ruby P.O.V.It isn’t dramatic. The circle doesn’t bark, it breathes in, and then it doesn’t breathe out. The air between warlocks thickens like glass cooling, and the space Celine was enjoying gets narrower. She tries to step sideways into a shadow, but Tara taps the stone with her socked toe and every shade in the meadow turns out its empty pockets. “No hiding,” the child says, as serious as bedtime. Celine’s pretty face cracks. “Who is that?” she snaps, nostrils flaring for a scent that never belonged to her.“The one who doesn’t shout at them,” Talia says from the north, mild and smug as Celine’s eyes come back to me. She tries something that would have worked last month, pity as a pry bar. “Poor Ruby,” she purrs, stepping only where the chalk’s memory is weak. “Look how hard you are trying to be enough.” I don’t take the bait, I just give an instruction. “Circle,” I say, “we are enough.”The east line holds and across the meadow, the west hums in agreement, iron in its lines. • Alpha Blake's Broken Luna    Celine in the circle (Part one)

Ruby P.O.V.The eastern meadow of Silver Dawn isn’t much to look at by daylight, just bleached grass and an old stone that remembers winters. At the edge of evening, though, it starts to come to life. Freya’s people chalk out a geometry that doesn’t care about pretty things. Silver filings sift into furrows, braided with salt and ash. Oloron walks the lines with a satchel of crystals that knock softly together like patient bells and Tara’s shadows gather at the tree line in a quiet crowd, curious and ready.I stand where Freya puts me, the east point, and try not to think about cages.“You anchor by asking,” Freya says, simply. She’s Nicholas’s half-sister, sharp cheekbones, sharper eyes, a daylight witch who’s patient with wolves if we’re useful. “Don’t force it, don’t bargain, ask and mean it.”“I can do that,” I say, and it isn’t bravado. My whole life people told me I feel too much, fine, but tonight it’s a tool.Nicholas stops a few feet shy of the line, long enough for the habi

Blake P.O.V.We come in quiet, no sirens, no lights, just the low rumble of tires and the weight of a night that didn’t break us.Courtyard lamps blink awake one by one as if they’ve been holding their breath. Warriors fan out without being told. I step out of the lead truck and the pack settles the way a room does when their Alpha goes out on a mission and comes back in one piece.“Inside,” I say. “A-rotation to medical. B-rotation, with Cassie on decon and logs. Elliott, take interrogation if any of our souvenirs try to grow mouths. Oloron, with me, containment first.”Allie hops down beside me before I can offer a hand, but I don’t mind. I take it anyway for three steps because I can. Dawn purrs through our bond, and under it, there it is again, the soft second echo, tucked low and stubborn. I don’t look at her belly and I don’t say a word. I just move my body a fraction closer on instinct and the wolf in me decides we’re now guarding two.“Later,” she murmurs, not looking up.“Lat

  • Alpha Blake's Broken Luna    Quiet after steps

Allison P.O.VWe do not descend to cheers. We descend to work.Caitlyn’s prison floats between us like a jewel I’d rather drop down a well. Tabs and Talia keep it small, smaller than a hatbox now, humming their father’s old song under their breath, the one that pulls clean threads through dirty cloth. My ears ring with it until the sound sits in my bones and the box’s edges stop trying to sharpen themselves in the air.Oloron meets us at the stair head with a face that says everything we need to know. He scans the seams with a craftsman’s eye, then my face with a father’s. His hand trembles as he tips Talia’s chin and checks for cracks that aren’t there. She rolls her eyes and then she leans into the touch anyway. Tabs bumps his shoulder with hers, he leans his hands against her cheek and says I see you. The song thickens, steadier.“Crystal,” Oloron says, to me this time.I pull the cord. The stone is warm as a mouse in winter. He relaxes a sliver. “Good.”“Later,” Blake tells every
