Evangeline's POV

I stared at him sitting there with that maddeningly unreadable look. That expression he wore like armor. So damn composed, while I was trying to remember what it felt like to breathe normally.

“What… is this? What do you think you're doing to me?” I finally asked, barely above my voice.

He didn’t blink. “You tell me.”

I laughed. Not because it was funny because I didn’t know what else to do. The sound came out sharp, bitter, hollow. “Is this some kind of twisted game? You torment me severely at work, keep me locked up, confuse the hell out of me… and now suddenly you—” I gestured between us, words failing me, “—this?”

“You think I plan things like this?”

“You’re always planning something. You're no good”

He stood up. That alone was enough to make me retreat a step without thinking.

He didn’t come closer. Just watched me, his head slightly tilted like he was studying me again. Always studying. Always dissecting.

Evangeline's POV His lips traced my skin like he had every right to. Slow yet so utterly reckless. I could feel each press of his mouth like a stamp against my neck. He moved lower, down to my shoulder, his breath fanning over my collarbone. It was fire and ice and confusion and lust, everything that made my heart ache and my brain forget how to work. “Stop…” I whispered. But it wasn’t firm enough to move a resolve. It wasn’t convincing, not sure. Because when his lips brushed lower, grazing the edges of my chest, I didn’t push him away. I bit my lip hard instead, too hard, trying to stop the traitorous sound building in my throat. But I failed. A moan escaped before I could catch it. He froze for a second, as if to savor that one sound. Then slowly, maddeningly, he continued. My hands, the ones that had been clenched into fists, reached up on their own accord. They curled into his hair, tugging slightly, drawing him closer instead of pulling him away. Why was I doing t

Evangeline's POVHis actions wasn't violent like I thought but with enough force that the motion shocked every cell in my body.I landed on the couch with a soft, broken gasp, my back sinking into the cushions. It didn’t hurt. It wasn’t meant to hurt and that somehow made it worse.I looked up at him, wide-eyed, my chest rising and falling like I had just sprinted through fire.He stood over me, silent. The glowing red in his eyes was stronger now. It flickered, like coals still burning under the surface. Waiting… but only barely.“What the hell is wrong with you?” I breathed. He didn’t answer. His expression was cold and calm.I pushed myself up on my elbows, trying to get back on my feet. “Don’t touch me again.”“You were going to leave,” he said quietly.“Yes,” I snapped. “Because this is insane! Because you show up out of nowhere claiming it's your house, reeking in blood, with glowing demon eyes or whatever that was, and expect me to what? Sit here and be okay with it?”His jaw t

Evangeline's POV I rose to my feet slowly, like the aura around me had suddenly shifted, more tense. My legs felt like they’d been dipped in concrete that were heavy, reluctant. But I had to stand. He was standing right there, staring at me.Still as a statue. Just inside the doorway like he owned it all. He looked almost untouched by everything, his dark eyes fixed on me with a quiet, calculated intensity. His expression didn’t change, not even when our eyes met.It was the same face I've always known, sharp lines, composed and cold.“What are you doing here?” I asked him. My voice barely rose above a whisper. He didn’t speak, not at first. He just… looked. His eyes dragged over me from head to toe, not with something heavier. Like he was checking to see if I'll do something nasty. And then, finally, his mouth twitched with a smirk. That same infuriating, unreadable smirk and he began walking towards me.“Answer me,” I said, I sharper now. “How are you here?”He didn’t stop moving.

Evangeline's POV Noah was now tightly clinging to me, his tiny fingers buried in the fabric of my shirt, as if any loosened grip might make me vanish. My hand curled over the back of his head instinctively. We needed to go. We needed to get out. The moment I moved, tightening my grip on Noah and shifting toward the door, the man stepped forward. slipping into our path and bocking it. “No,” he said, his voice low but firm. “You can’t leave.” I blinked up at him. My body still carried the ache of fear, the deep-burning fatigue from survival mode—but now a sharper note of frustration began to rise inside me. I squared my shoulders. “Move away,” I said tightly. He didn’t. His posture remained calm, annoyingly so. “Not my call,” he replied, tilting his head slightly. “I’ve got orders. You’re not supposed to leave until the boss returns.” “The boss?” I echoed, narrowing my eyes. “Who the hell are you talking about?” He gave me a look that was measured, unreadable and then said the

Evangeline's POV The prayer hadn't even left my lips completely when the world answered with violence. A sound split the air immediately. The glass doors in front of me shattered, not cracked, but exploded, hurling shards like silver daggers across the room. They tore through everything, concrete, silence, skin and rope. The bindings around my wrists sliced apart in a clean, terrifying line. I tumbled from the chair onto the ground with a gasp, my arms numb from the pressure that had held me prisoner. For a second, everything was still. Not until men burst into the room, three, maybe four, I couldn’t tell, they were too fast. Their guns raised like angry metal mouths, bullets was already flying from their guns. They weren’t aiming. Or maybe they were, at me or at Noah. At whoever had broken in. But the bullets didn’t make it. In front of my wide eyes, the first shot twisted mid-air, the shape warping like ink dropped in water. The bullets turned to liquid, dissolving mid
