Damon's POV

The morning came too soon.

I barely got any sleep. Not that I expected to.

After leaving Rachel in my quarters last night, I buried myself in work, trying to focus on anything other than the mate bond that was pulling at me like a chain around my throat.

But even as I sat in my office, reviewing border patrol reports and listening to Caleb's updates, my mind kept drifting back to her.

To the way she looked at me. The way her scent had wrapped around me the moment I walked into that room.
