DRAEKON stared at Vaelora, anger evident in his eyes.

He understood her tricks. He knew the law scroll she had decided to use to her advantage.

But he was going to frustrate her.

"Silence."

The moment the word dropped from his mouth, the entire place went calm, accompanied by a feral growl from Andronikos, which resonated through the roof.

"Chief Wofah, I do understand your concerns." Draekon nodded. "However, this hypothetical point of yours, regarding the Luna's inability to birth a werewolf heir, isn't valid."

The place remained calm. No one dared cause chaos when Draekon spoke.

"Her wolf's dormancy, doesn't necessarily equate to her inability to reproduce pups with wolf genes. I mean, both my parents were werewolves, but I still managed to be partly DragonBorn by the virtue of a six hundred year prophecy. Who is to say I wouldn't be the first and last DragonBorn-wolf?"

The chiefs hummed in support, nodding their heads.

Zayn knew this was going to be such a big feat to pull off.

"If I may speak, Veylor." Om'zaar requested, and Draekon nodded positively.

"All these are assumptions. It would be unwise for us to be uncertain, before taking a consort for the king." Om'zaar reasoned.

Vaelora exhaled hot air, praying within that her plan wasn't squashed.

"For someone like the king, any pup born without a dragon egg, is presumed a werewolf. And even if it is born alongside a dragon egg, it could be a DragonBorn-Wolf hybrid like its father."

Om'zaar had struck right where it mattered the most.

"Exactly!" Chief Toi'fah agreed. "I suggest the king and queen make haste to give the kingdom a pup within the next few months. Then, we should be able to tell."

"And even if their first pup turns out to be DragonBorn, the queen can always birth more pups after him."

Goddess!

Vaelora didn't want to believe she was doomed. How had her plan come to this?

To make pups with Draekon?!

“According to the historical law scrolls on succession,” Zayn began slowly, his voice steadier than he felt. “the firstborn son of the Alpha King is required to succeed his father as heir.”

The room went still, and a few eyes widened.

Did he just say that?

Draekon’s cold stare locked on him instantly.

Zayn didn’t flinch, but his throat tightened. He could feel the betrayal hardening in the air between them.

He knew he had crossed a line.

“Zayn…”

Draekon’s voice came, low and lethal.

Vaelora couldn't believe that Zayn had actually..... he had put his relationship with Draekon on the line.

For her.

"Gentlemen," Vaelora eventually spoke for the first time since they began deliberating on that issue.

Her voice was weak, but she tried to sound firm.

"As Luna, I believe it is my duty to serve the kingdom. I mean, that was why I was made to marry the king in the first place."

She was trying to use their own strategy against them now.

Vaelora had one last powerful trick up her sleeves, and her freedom from Draekon depended on it.

"I am the topic of discussion, and only I can tell you accurately, how much disadvantage it would be, to solely hope on me to provide a befitting heir for the throne."

"How do you mean, Luna?" Om'zaar asked, his complete attention on her.

"We all tend to forget that my mother was a witch."

At the sound of that, little whispers erupted.

Funny how they could do that when she spoke, but dared not try it when Draekon did.

"I am still speaking."

The audacious manner in which Vaelora spoke, made the entire parliament as calm as night.

Good.

"Like I mentioned earlier, I am a witch-wolf hybrid. And realizing that there is a lot at stake here, makes us all very responsible aids to the crown. I only want what's best for this kingdom. An heir without..... tainted werewolf blood and genes."

Vaelora had dared to use those particular words!

No one could say it to his face of course, but those were the same words in the whispers that questioned Draekon's legitimacy to be king.

Draekon was deeply aggravated.

No. He wasn't going to let Vaelora make him act out of character.

No.

"My queen, what are you saying in essence?" Chief Wofah asked, trying to hide the delight that easily sparked in his eyes.

"That we cannot treat matters concerning royal succession, based on a gamble. And to show how much this matter troubles me, I would like to invite every chief on this table to contribute to the potential solution of the problem on ground."

The chiefs wondered what she meant by that.

"What are you inviting us to, Luna?" Chief Toi'fah queried.

Right there and then, Vaelora played her last card.

Her only hope for survival.

"I am inviting each chief to bring forward one of their daughters, for the royal consort selection. That way, they all have a hand in ensuring the safety of the royal bloodline"

Vaelora didn't have to directly offer them a stake to the throne. But they clearly understood her indirect approach, because they all looked lost in thought at that moment.

Zayn was shocked. He had no idea how Vaelora had thought of such, but it was brilliant!

As royal consorts, any of their daughters could possibly birth the royal heir, and Zayn knew most of them wouldn't want to pass out on such opportunity.

"I think....."

That was chief Toi'fah. It seemed as though he was battling between integrity and ambition. Who wouldn't want the royal heir to come from their bloodline?

"I think this is a brilliant idea." He finally said, making all eyes fall on him.

Not long after, another chief nodded in agreement.

"It is definitely the best idea, yet."

"I think so too." The third chief agreed.

And before they could tell what was happening, eight chiefs and a hand full of High Lords had concurred to Vaelora's latest scheme.

Even she, couldn't believe it!

It had worked!

"I don't think this is the best course of action. The king and queen have been barely married for two weeks!" Om'zaar opposed.

Only he and three other chiefs hadn't succumbed to the idea.

Vaelora prayed they didn't make things unnecessarily difficult for her.

"Majority of the chiefs are in support of this idea, chief Om'zaar. I think majority carries the vote." Zayn said, making Draekon even more enraged.

Vaelora and Zayn may think they had won, but Draekon was on a different league from them.

He still had things in control, and that was what they failed to realize.

"An excellent idea indeed." Draekon nodded, surprising everyone. "I think the consort selection is in order."

"Veylor....." Om'zaar began, but Draekon shook his head at him to stop.

"Seeing as we have only eight chiefs interested in giving out their daughters for the royal consort selection," He said in the most demeaning tone. "then I believe two months shall be enough for the selection."

"For the next eight weeks, each of the eight noble ladies would spend a week in the House of Veylor, to be interviewed and evaluated by the Luna."

At the sound of that, Vaelora looked at Draekon, completely at loss.

What was he saying?

"According to the laws for the royal consort selection, the Luna MUST see to the selection of consorts herself. Because of course, no one else knows the king's preference as best as she does. Only she can secure a perfect match for the king."

"Fair enough." Toi'fah supported, even before Vaelora could speak.

This was just the beginning of Draekon's game. He was going to play Vaelora like he pleased, and still ruin her efforts.

He had never taken a consort before, and he wouldn't start now.

But then again, he wasn't going to spoil the fun so soon.

He was going to let Vaelora deceive herself. And when he was ready, he'd have her bear his pups.

As the council began to buzz with the logistics of the consort selection, Vaelora glanced at Draekon once more, only to find his burning gaze already on her.

This time, not anger. Not fury.

Just a quiet promise of war.

VAELORA stared at Draekon in both shock and confusion. What was happening? "DragonBorns?" "Yes." He replied. "It has become even clearer that the DragonBorns have a plan, but unfortunately, I don't have an idea what it is. That is why I want to use Nysera's presence here to my advantage. She doesn't know it, but she has been taken hostage now." "Draekon." Vaelora stepped down the bed now, pacing the length of the room, deep in thoughts. "Aside the disgusting incident between us the following day, did any other..." She trailed off, looking for the right word. "Did any other significant thing happen afterward?" "Judging from my three weeks of partial limbo, trapped in my beast form, I was unaware. But after I returned, Tobias or Ambrose didn't report any significant cases." Vaelora remained silent, looking into space as she delved into thoughts. She felt very troubled within. It was as though her witch instincts were poking her. Just then, a deep grumble was heard th

VAELORA woke up, her eyes gradually focusing on the ceiling above her. She dragged in some air, before exhaling. Her mind was still a bit disoriented, which was understandable for someone just waking up. But somehow, her heart danced. She knew that if she turned, she was going to meet the face of the one man who meant everything to her in this realm. And of course, she did. She turned to meet Draekon's eyes on her. He was woken up half an hour before she did, and had just remained in bed, watching her sleep. After the funny scene with Rebekah at his study, they had both returned to Vaelora's new chambers to rest some more. It was a silent understanding that neither of them were really ready to return to their shared chambers, knowing what had happened there. "Veylooorrr...." Vaelora drawled, a small smile on her face, her eyes twinkling with pure love. "Your Majesty." Draekon teased in response, sliding closer to her underneath the sheets. "Did you sleep well?" "H

WHEN DRAEKON ceased to feel Vaelora's fingers moving through his hair, he knew she had most certainly fallen asleep. Gently getting off of her, he stood to his feet and quickly threw on his braies and trousers. He crouched low and carefully pulled down her robe to cover her thighs. While at that, she steered a bit and her eyes fluttered open. She looked very tired. She was probably scouting through her sleepy brain for something to say, when Draekon effortlessly whisked her into his arms and headed for the perimeters. On getting to the perimeters, the sentinels could only manage awkward bows as Draekon walked past them with Vaelora asleep in his arms. Asides hearing all the sinful sounds their Alpha and Luna had been quite busy making from within the hunting grounds, they could smell the sex as Draekon passed. "Must be nice." One of the sentinels whispered after Draekon had walked a distance, and the others sighed. It was a cold night, and the heat that had crept up their

DRAEKON felt his entire body go hot. His lower body seemed a bit too excited, and it scared him. He could feel Vaelora's finger pull against his hair, and it made him lose more control. They both moaned into the kiss like they had been waiting for this opportunity the whole time. But more than anything, he wanted to talk to her right then. He wanted her to give him a good excuse as to why she hurt him so badly. A good excuse that would ensure he didn't lose her. He COULDN'T lose her. He wouldn't be able to bear it. Not after reminding himself of what her lips tasted like. He slowed down on the kiss, wanting to pull away, but Vaelora's hand wandered down his body and rested on his crotch. Draekon was already so hard, and... Cursed claws! She was going to be his undoing. "Please..." She whispered in tears, needing him so badly. She had gone weeks... No. A whole month without him! She couldn't bear it anymore. Not anymore. She

DRAEKON and Ambrose had arrived the Royal House very late that night. It was probably midnight already. As their horses trotted in, Draekon looked over the expanse of the royal estates, and he could swear he saw a very familiar figure walking towards the perimeters of the hunting grounds. Swiftly, he jumped off his horse and Ambrose did same. The sentinels quickly collected the reins of their horses and led them toward the stables. Ambrose started heading toward the foyer, but frowned when he noticed Draekon going the opposite way. "Where are you going?" Ambrose asked in confusion. "Somewhere." Draekon muttered, his face contouring in what seemed like annoyance. Ambrose watched silently as Draekon headed down the royal estates and after a while, he released a tired sigh and headed in, quite eager to be in the arms of his mate. While they had finished up with their investigations the same day they left for Chief Doughan's, Draek

DRAEKON sat alone at the balcony of the Chief Doughan's residence. He and Ambrose had been there for the past two days, after concluding the final part of their investigations regarding the night Chief Doughan's residence was attacked. Apparently, that wasn't the only thing that occured that night. The Chief's residence was the closest to the border, and majority of the sentinels stationed at the border had rushed over there to help during the attack. The few others who had remained to stand guard at the border however, were all... killed. Shockingly. All, except one of the sentinels who was noted to still have a pulse while the bodies were being evacuated. Darren. Draekon found it fishy that the remaining sentinels at the border were killed, when the attack had been at Chief Doughan's residence, and not the border. He had been planning to look deeper into the case, but then returned home to meet the situation with Vaelora and Dione, and wen

"I know it sounds crazy, Lora. But I know what I felt that day. I am certain." Zayn brushed his fingers through his hair. "We were already leaving for Shadow Fang, but I hopped off the carriage anyways. I didn't find her...." This time, Vaelora looked at him in mild confusion. "Wait....

VAELORA finally stepped out of their bathing chambers, still yet to get over what had transpired between she and Draekon. She felt hot in a way she couldn't explain. And no, it wasn't because she had soaked in warm water for long. Factually speaking, the water had gone cold by the time she

"Draekon..... You'll keep to your word and let me go. Won't you?" Vaelora asked. Draekon looked away, unsure how he felt in that moment. It was definitely not a deliberate decision of his, to have promised her such freedom. He would never do that. He could never let her go, knowing how ba
