VAELORA didn't expect these much maids would assemble. They were over a hundred of them.

Though, the House of Veylor was a large empire. It housed over thirty High Lords and Ladies, so the number of maids working there, seemed quite reasonable.

"Luna, I have gathered them all," Danika, the Chief maid over the House of Veylor, whispered to Vaelora.

"Thank you, Danika." She gave an appreciative nod, then looked back at the maids before her.

A small smile made its way to Vaelora's face. She was going to deeply root her feet within the grounds of the House of Veylor, and she was going to begin with the lowest of ranks. A power move rooted in both politics and survival.

"Today, we are going to do a bit of reshuffling and reassigning," she began. "I hear that some of you have been serving in a particular department for too long." She paused briefly. "If you know you serve as a personal maid to any Lord or Lady, please step aside."

She watched as the maids quickly separated themselves as she had requested.

"You can leave." She waved off the personal maids, before focusing on the others left.

"Danika," she whispered to the Chief maid, who stood beside her. "Have them stand in rows of ten."

"Yes, Luna." Danika nodded, getting to it. Once she was done moments later, Vaelora walked towards the end of the last row, observing.

She halted her steps when she heard a couple of maids giggling. They had no idea she was just behind them, so they chattered away mindlessly.

"Ohhh, he is sooo good," one of them whispered, making the others chuckle. "The king's sexual prowess is unmatched. I'd consider myself lucky, if he requests for me again."

Vaelora heard it all. Clearly. They had obviously been speaking of Draekon and she didn't know why she felt... humiliated.

It wasn't the humiliation that stemmed from heartbreak, it was the kind that stemmed from disrespect.

"Hm-hm." Vaelora cleared her throat, announcing her presence.

The moment the maids turned and saw her there, they all jumped in fear, already scared of the punishment they were about to receive. But Vaelora shocked them by walking on ahead.

"Those who work in the kitchens, to the left please," came her voice, as she continued with her business.

Hours after that, Vaelora remained busy reassigning the duties and getting familiar with the new maids among them. Soon enough, it was noon. She was tired, but kept going nonetheless.

"I hear that there is a council meeting currently going on," Vaelora mentioned and Danika nodded positively.

"So that means some of the maids are not presently here?"

"Why, Luna?" Danika asked in confusion. "Of course, they all are."

"Then who are the maids attending to the needs of the council chiefs at the meeting?"

Danika appeared clueless.

"Luna, no one attends to them..." she trailed off, wondering if she was missing somethin. "No one is allowed into the council room, during meetings."

"So the chiefs just spend so much time here on most days without receiving any kind of refreshments during their meetings?"

Vaelora was quite surprised. It was strange for a kingdom so structured, to overlook something as basic as that.

"Lunaaa!" Zayn's teasing voice was heard, as he approached Vaelora from behind. She turned to him, a small smile on her face.

"High Lord Zayn." She gave an exaggerated courtesy in return, making some of the maids laugh.

"I see." He chuckled. "I was at your chambers this morning, but Vonne informed me that you stepped out. Have you been here since then?"

"Yes." She nodded, releasing a low yawn as she did.

"Hungry?"

"Definitely."

"Great. Join me for lunch then."

"Uhm..." she hesitated, staring at the maids who were still very much assembled.

"Oh, come on. They most certainly could use a meal themselves," he reasoned.

Looking at Danika, he signaled for her to come closer. "Dani, please ask them to leave for lunch, and reassemble in another hour."

"Yes, your Highness." Danika gave a bow and walked off.

"Glad to see you're looking bright," Zayn said to Vaelora as they both walked away.

She gave a scoff. "Tired of crying. Moreover, there is no escape route for me now."

Hearing her say that, Zayn swallowed a huge morsel of guilt because there was something he was yet to tell her. He couldn't bring himself to.

"How was your first day as Luna?" he asked, changing the topic. She easily took the bait.

"Oh, great."

Vaelora wore a genuine smile, one that Zayn hadn't seen in a while. He wondered if there was a chance that Vaelora could fall in love with her new position if she settled in more.

Maybe he was quick to conclude. Maybe Vaelora could be happy with Draekon...

He paused that thought immediately. Vaelora would be so mad at him if she ever found out he had entertained such a thought. But then, it wasn't a complete impossibility, was it?

The sudden slight frown on her face, made him frown as well.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Oh, nothing much." She chuckled. "Just the irony of things. It's funny how we all criticized Dione for being a cheat."

Zayn paused and observed her quietly. "But he was. He cheated."

"And you think I wouldn't suffer worse with Draekon?"

"Lora, what is this about?"

Vaelora said nothing in response at first.

"Tell me," he pushed, realizing there was something indeed.

"I heard them. Some maids..." she began. "Giggling and talking about how much sexual prowess 'the king' has." She rolled her eyes.

Zayn shot her a certain look, one she wasn't comfortable with.

"That is disgusting, Zayn," she muttered blankly. "I care not, if he sticks his cock into every other woman out there. That doesn't faze me. Shouldn't even."

"Then what fazes you?"

"The fact that it has to be the maids." She released yet another scoff. "At least, Dione was 'kind' enough to not rub it in my face. The disrespect."

'Disrespect'--The firmness in her voice left no room for doubt that it was indeed what had upset Vaelora all along.

Zayn sighed.

What was wrong with him? Why had he been so convinced she was jealous?

Some foolish part of him kept trying to believe she and Draekon might eventually find happiness together, just as he and Amelia had. Maybe he simply missed the man that Draekon used to be. Or maybe...

Maybe he was just a terrible friend.

He had seen, firsthand, how much his brothers had hurt Vaelora in the past and even presently. He knew those wounds had never truly healed, yet he had added to them by keeping this secret.

Still... Could Draekon really betray the sanctity of their bond and cheat on her like Dione had done?

"Draekon only had these dalliances before your union. I don't think he still actively 'sees' this maid in question. More so, he never for once cheated on Amelia."

"Goddess!" Vaelora groaned in mild frustration. "Can't you see?! I am not Amelia! I will never be, Zayn."

Silence ensued for half a minute, before Zayn stuttered. "I... I am so sorry, Lora."

"It's fine. I understand you want to see him happy again. At my expense," she muttered the last part.

"No, that's not it." He shook his head. "Might be it. But not it," he rushed out, further confusing them both.

Vaelora regarded him closely, and could see he was itching to say something.

"Zayn, talk to me," she firmly demanded.

He hesitated before speaking. "I don't know if I should tell you this."

At that point, he was caught between loyalty to his brother and loyalty to his friend.

"I found it, Lora. I found the loophole."

JUST BEFORE they headed out, Zayn appeared, looking quite disheveled. Draekon eyed the injury on the side of his head and frowned."Andronikos gave me a hard time," Zayn explained. "But they've safely left for Shadow Fang," he supplied.Draekon nodded. Of course, they were gone. He could no longer feel Vaelora or Andronikos within.Next, he led the way outside.Indeed, the Royal House had been completely surrounded. If they hadn't been under attack, he might have admired the flawless formation.Several dragons hovered above the rooftops, arranged in a wide circular formation that covered the entire estate. Others formed another imposing formation above the Ignarion Army gathered across the fields.Draekon's jaw clenched. They must have infiltrated the Royal House through the hunting grounds, while the rest had flown in on their dragons after tearing down the protective spells and sigils along the kingdom's borders. He wasn't entirely surprised. Hashemii had a rogue sorceress like Cers

WITHIN MINUTES, the House of Veylor descended into chaos. The war wasn't supposed to begin for another day and a half. Yet Hashemii's army had already breached the territorial boundary and launched an attack in the dead of night. The sentinels raced through the estate, ensuring that the noble-born children and Ladies were safely escorted through one of the escape routes into the Lunar Sanctum. The magic barricade surrounding the Lunar Sanctum ensured enemy forces couldn't breach it. While panic spread through the royal estate, Andronikos and the other dragons from Ignarion filled the night with thunderous, restless growls.Inside their chambers, Draekon swiftly threw on his pants and tightened the metal plate holding his swords and knives round his waist. He remained bare-chested. Werewolves rarely wore full armor into battle. It only got in the way of shifting.Vaelora had also hopped down the bed and threw on a pair of combat pants, slightly discombobulated. How hadn't they envis

REBEKAH wheeled Khol'an through the familiar corridors of the dungeons, a bit unprepared for what laid ahead. But Khol'an had requested it. She knew it was going to offer him some form of closure. As they approached the particular dungeon where Luna Marion was, she signaled one of the sentinels who had accompanied them to take Khol'an through the rest of the way, while she stood in wait by a corner. She didn't want to look at the woman. Didn't think she could bear to. She couldn't forgive her for all the horrible things she had done against Khol'an. The sentinel wheeled Khol'an and came to a stop just in front of the dungeon where Luna Marion sat with her head hung low, and back against the wall. She wasn't unkempt or haggard. If anything, she looked... empty. The moment she caught whiff of the familiar scent of her son, she slowly raised her head. Her gaze pinned on Khol'an's blank face and she shivered internally. He looked well. Healthy--the one thing she had never let him be.

VAELORA was desperate. The previous night, she barely slept. She spent every waking moment searching for a loophole. Never before had she felt so useless... so fragile. When it had been revealed that she was Nali'yum's reincarnate, she felt... purposeful. She felt like she had a role to play in destiny. But now, here she was, being persuaded to hide like a coward. After the meeting the previous night, Amaren had been overcome with fear. The very thing she had been scared about years ago, was almost coming to play -- that Vaelora would have a tragic end like Nali'yum. That Vaelora would have to sacrifice herself to save their people again.Everyone, especially Amaren and Kaejon had immediately supported Draekon's idea of sending Vaelora out of Iron-Vale before the war.But Vaelora didn't want to leave. She knew she still had a role to play in this war. The others believed the vision meant her life was in danger. She wasn't so sure.Somehow... she wasn't even afraid of dying."I've se

DRAEKON couldn't believe what he was hearing. His face contorted in a deep frown."You're asking me to give Hashemii my wife??!" he thundered.Nysera flinched and looked between both men in concern. But Kaejon remained unmoved. "I am not asking you to give up Queen Vaelora. I would be a fool to do that.""Then what are you asking?"Kaejon stared in confusion. Was Draekon really asking him that? It was a no-brainer at this point."Give him Andronikos!" "Watch your tone," Draekon sneered."Kaejon..." Merakkai called calmly, a way of putting him back in line.Kaejon released a low sigh and locked his jaw. "My apologies," he rendered.Draekon said nothing in response and just regarded him quietly. "What even makes you think I would hand over my dragon to Hashemii?""Well..." Kaejon shrugged slowly. "It's either him or your...""I'm giving him neither of them," Draekon snapped.Kaejon pinched the bridge of his nose in mental exhaustion. They all weren't understanding the situation of th

KAEJON SAT inside Draekon's study, where Ambrose had asked him to wait. One by one they all came in. Alpha Noir and Zayn showed up first, exchanging brief greetings with him. After that, Tobias and Zeno entered. Then Khol'an and Rebekah joined them. Some minutes passed before Draekon and Vaelora eventually arrived, accompanied by Ambrose. Kaejon stood in respect as soon as Draekon entered. He had always envied the man but right then, his feelings were different. He was thankful. Grateful that Draekon wasn't going to marry Nysera after all and... The door opened and Merakkai waltzed in with Amaren. Nysera followed behind them. Then moment he laid eyes on Kaejon, they narrowed. "Kae..." he was still speaking when Nysera ran past him. "Kaejon!" she cried in relief as he met her halfway and easily picked her up. They hugged each other tightly and Nysera couldn't hold back her tears as he sniffed her neck. Oh, she missed him so much. They pulled apart and Kaejon cupped her face, us

FOR THE first time in his life, Draekon felt a certain emotion overwhelm him. One that usually dared not be used as an adjective to describe his emotions. No, he wasn't 'almost' scared. He was very scared. "Vaelora...." He whispered, standing from his seat. Alpha Noir on the other hand, lo

THE HALL vibrated with so much excitement, an effect of the games event during the day. As the nobles and chiefs conversed amongst themselves while eating, Vaelora sat on the opposite end from Draekon, unable to stop stealing glances at him. Draekon was quite aware of how disoriented she was

WHEN the noise within the royal house became unbearable, Vaelora eventually opened her eyes, squinting as the early morning sun rays shone against her face through the open windows. Of course, she found her head turning to the side, and gave a tiny frown when she didn't see him laying there.
