Ruthless

"Alpha." One of the guards who was let into the room at Dylan's command bowed his head as he spoke.

"Speak." Dylan was in no mood for long talks.

He only hoped they had found the traitors who had a hand in his father's death. He gripped the edge of his seat tight until his knuckles whitened.

He couldn't wait to snuff life out of them after torturing them for days. So many thoughts of what to do to them filled his head and he couldn't wait to actualize them.

"We have no news yet but…"

"What?" Dylan roared.

"How many more hours will it take you to find my father's killers? I swear on my father's grave that I will make you a scapegoat if any one of them escapes." Dylan growled.

The guard was visibly shaken by the harsh tone of Dylan's voice but he understood that he was grieving.

"Then what are you waiting for!?" Dylan snarled.

"Get out!" Dylan was furious.

He could not bury his father until he avenged his death. Only then would he be at peace but there was still no news. He paced the room in anger thinking of various ways to make them suffer.

He walked to the desk in the room and picked up the letter. Brandon handed it over to him after searching through his father's library. He scanned through the heartbreaking letter, unable to read it again because each line pierced his heart.

"Alpha Theo, I have news that could benefit the Pack and I can only share it with you tonight. Can we meet by nine PM?"

Unable to hold his emotions in check anymore, Dylan shredded the paper into pieces and punched the wall in anger. He had cried so much his bloodshot eyes were hurting him. He was sapped of energy and there were no more tears in him. But the hurt and guilt remained there.

His father's death would have been avoidable if he wasn't too trusting and loyal to the Pack. That had been the reason he had died at the hands of the Peytons. How could he have gone to see a Pack member without his guards or any means of security?

His fingers hurt from punching the wall but it didn't compare to the pain he felt in his chest. Why did life have to be so cruel?

How could his father have been so gullible? He didn't even inform Brandon or Kieran. He shut his eyes tight trying to envision how his father must have struggled for his last breaths.

A lone tear streamed down his face and released a deep breath from his lungs. As he stood there waiting for news on the traitors, Dylan vowed to be a ruthless Alpha King.

Someone knocked on the door, snapping him out of his deep thoughts.

"Come in." He hoped it was good news this time or he would lose it.

He watched his cousin, Kieran step into the room and close the door after him.

"The guards you sent out now have Peyton's daughter but she refuses to speak about the whereabouts of her family members." Kieran said.

"We have tried everything to make her speak but she insists she has no idea where they are." He added.

"She will be killed but not until I get where the rest are and I torture her. Take me to her." Dylan gritted his teeth and rose to his feet immediately.

Jasmine blinked, darting her eyes around the dark cell slowly. She felt pricking pain pierce through her body. Her eyes scanned the unfamiliar room around her in confusion as her mind tried to piece together the events that had occurred.

Slowly, she remembered. They captured her and refused to believe her claims that she had no idea of where her family was even though she had pleaded that she was innocent.

She winced in pain when she felt the handcuffs around her wrists. She tried freeing herself from it but gave up almost immediately when she realised she was fighting a lost battle.

She sagged against the wall and fresh tears sprang from her eyes. What would her life be like now? Who had killed the Alpha King? And why? Her head was wrapped in a thick fog of confusion.

She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard the clanking of iron outside. She swallowed and sat up almost immediately. Were they planning to kill her already?

Dylan was followed closely by three guards and Kieran as he approached the dark dungeon where she was kept. If there was a more cruel cell, he would have ordered her to be taken there.

Two guards preceded him and opened up the cell for him. They followed him passing a torch to him.

Dylan frowned when he saw the familiar blonde hair. He shook the thoughts away because he was so sure she wasn't the one. She couldn't be the one.

"Where are the rest of your family members!?" He growled as he approached her.

"I don't…" Jasmine swallowed the rest of her words, gulping back heavily.

"Dylan." Her voice was barely a whisper and her eyes widened when she realised he was the one standing before her.

Realisation hit her as she processed things fast. So he was the new Alpha King. She let out a soft gasp of relief. He would believe her side of the story. A small feeble smile grazed her face as she scrambled towards him on her haunches.

A flicker of shock deserted his face as soon as it came. His heart thudded against his ribcage when she raised her head to meet his gaze. He had to be dreaming.

He soaked her pale figure in as a glimmer of recognition passed through his eyes.

Thoughts of his father which he would no longer see filled up his head and he clenched his fists in anger.

Although he could recognize her, his next words betrayed his reaction.

"I, the Alpha of this Pack will now pronounce my judgment." Dylan, the newly crowned Alpha of Crescent Moon Pack said to her surprise.
