I jumped at the deadly look in his eyes. He could see me?

My foot tripped over a rock behind me and I grabbed ahold of the wall before I could fall.

His eyes were locked on me, blood red eyes burning with rage mixed with sorrow, pain I could only imagine after I watched them rip his mate apart with my own eyes.

He snarled and was about to lunge at me when I felt my back collide against something cold and I waited for my body to come in contact with its surface, but it never came.

Instead, a huge glowing ball of light swallowed me into the darkness. Even as I fell deeper into the portal I could feel his eyes still locked on me, like he could see every move I make.

Only when I opened my eyes did I remember where I was and how I got there.
