LIAM'S POV

Like some sort of unspoken rule between us, we both decided not to talk about the undercurrent of tension between us. I had barely tucked her phone back under the pillow when she emerged from the bathroom in sheer lingerie. There was a glint in her eyes that made me know she had done this deliberately.

"You like to play with fire, don't you?" I said, smacking her breast as I passed her to go freshen up myself.

"Maybe I just like to be burned."

"We will see." She wore a robe over her lingerie when we went down for dinner, which I was grateful for, otherwise I would have been salivating over something else entirely.

We talked about everything and anything else but wisely steered clear of personal talk. I know what we were doing, avoiding it wouldn't help us at all, but I did want to enjoy the night with her. We would deal with whatever tomorrow.

"Are you done with it?" I loved it when she watched me eat. It made me feel like I was her whole world, like no one else e

LIAM'S POV The downside of owning a company that no one really talked about was how much time you spent sitting in meetings that never really added much value to anything or anyone. Unless it was a deliberation or strategic meeting, I tried as much as possible to be unavailable for it. This particular meeting, though, I was unable to get out of because it was unavoidable. This set of start-up owners had been trying to arrange a meeting with my company for as long as I could remember. I figured that they would be different from all the other startups. I was grossly disappointed. It was my own fault for having expectations. It all boiled down to one thing. "I think I've heard enough." I cut in when I could no longer stand it. "Contact my finance department to see if you can be on board with our policy." "Thank you, President Arlington." He smiled in relief. I waved him off and went back to my office, even more relieved to be out of there. Reid was waiting for me in my office wh

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

LIAM'S POV "I don't think she has anything up her sleeves." Was the first thing I said to Reid when he walked into my office. "Good morning to you, too, boss." He dropped a bunch of files on my table. "I have the files you asked for." "I'll go through them later." I waved a dismissive hand, I was more interested in his analysis of my wife's behavior. "How can I find out if she's deceiving me or not?" "I guess my words stuck with you, huh?" "Yes, I have realized that she's not behaving as she would normally do. She is a natural rebel. Her first reaction is to push back first then ask questions later. I've pushed her quite a lot these past few days, and she hasn't done anything. For instance, I made all the maids stop cozying up to her, and she hasn't said one word about it." "Maybe she isn't as friendly with them as you thought." "I thought so, too, but that's not it. She got my head housekeeper to call her by her name. I told her to stop, and she hasn't said one thing about

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-THREE

AMY'S POV I haven't slept well since the night he told me about his past lifestyle. That night, it was all I could do to keep myself away from him. He tossed and turned all night while I lay beside him like a statue. The next morning, he asked me if I was really okay with it, and I replied in the affirmative. I guess he didn't believe me because he didn't tell me the new bedroom code combination. He called his men more than ten times to confirm if I was in the house. Except he didn't put it that way. He kept coming up with things that he mysteriously left in his home office. "There's one with bold lettering on it. Do you see it?" "Yes, I see it." When he came home that night, I confronted him. "You're not as sleek as you think you are, Liam." I sneered. "What are you talking about?" He looked away. "You know exactly what I'm talking about, so don't tell me that. I'm not a fool, Liam." He went into the closet, and I followed him in. "Never said you were." "You know damn we

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

LIAM'S POV I stood in front of the door and tried not to yell at her for her recklessness. Was she seriously not clocking the danger she was in? Someone out there is out to get her, and she thinks this is the time she can storm out of the house? Not fucking happening. "Liam, seriously, this isn't funny. Let me go." She glared at me, and I was positive that if she could kill me with her eyes, I would be six feet under. "You're not going anywhere, Amy. You're in danger." "Thanks to you." She shot back. I never knew she was this fiery. I had given her room to grow, and I wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not because I was the one on the end of that sharp tongue. "Seriously, I can't let you leave the mansion. You're under the safest room in all of Crystalline." "Isn't that so ironic? That the safest place to be is under your roof." I don't know if she wanted to cry from fear of me or fear of all the information I just dumped on her. What I do know is that it hurts to be call

  • Alpha Liam's Chosen Mate   CHAPTER FORTY-ONE

AMY'S POV Whatever he had to say, I know I would have to sit down for it. He looked way too serious. "Let's go up to our room." He nodded and followed me up to our room. "We can talk here." Less time for him to change his mind and lie to me. He looked around nervously. "Anyone can be listening." "Fine." I sat down on the bed and mentally braced myself for whatever he was about to say. He paced the floor while I got out of my shoes and hung my coat. "I'm ready." "Bella Mia," he began. "What I'm about to say might come as a shock to you." "Which is why you should get it over with on time. You're making me nervous. Will you stop moving around and stay in one place?" I snapped, and he came to a halt. "I'm sorry, baby." He sat down beside me and held my hand in his. "Have you ever Googled me?" "No, why would I need to do that when the real thing is here?" What sort of question was that? "You should." I thought he was joking until he made me do so. He practically shoved his p
