Madeline:

“You need to rest, Luna Alaria. You cannot keep roaming around.” I said, looking at her. She looked down at her feet, wrapping her arms around herself.

“My daughter is sitting in her room, she does not understand why she is being kept home and why she can’t be with her friends.” Alaria said, clenching her fists. “She is just a child, and she is getting caught in a mess that she does not even understand. Hell, even I don’t understand it.”

“The life that she was born into is a mess, Luna. It is not an easy aspect for her to be dealing with, and the fact that her father is going to want to keep her safe is something that you should be grateful for.” I said, looking down at her.

“I don’t even understand what he is trying to protect her from. He won’t explain it, he won’t even tell me anything. He just believes that he has to control everything that is around.” Alaria said, her voice rising with anger. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be taking it out on you.”

Alaria:“You can’t do this,” I said, voice small at first and then cracking like a whip. Heat rose in my chest until it was all flames. “You can’t keep deciding for me. For Nasia. For us. I am choosing to be subtle until now, but it does not mean that I am letting it go, Liam. I am not going to keep ignoring everything that you do simply because you want me to.”He stopped, and it was as if the pause itself carried the weight of a march. When he looked at me, his eyes were a dangerous, winter-dark lake. “It’s dangerous,” he said, low. “There are rogues. Rogues that you knew about and yet chose to keep from me. And the fact that you looked me in the eye and chose to ignore the fact that you knew that I would be worried…”“I know there are rogues.” The words came out sharper than I meant as I stopped him. “Do you think I don’t live with those nightmares every day? Do you think I don’t know what they are capable of? You…” I swallowed. The room tilted. “You’re treating our daughter like a

Darius:The flames in the hearth spat sparks as I leaned back in my chair, listening to Amelia’s voice over the line. The idea that she couldn’t come to speak to me was one that I did not like. But I understood, given the circumstances, that she wouldn’t be able to do it for now.“They’ve locked Luna Alaria and the child inside the Alpha’s house. He is refusing to let any of them out.” she whispered, low enough that no one around her would overhear. “Liam is furious. Madeline tried to calm him, but he’s unraveling. He won’t tell her anything, and it’s only making things worse. She is fighting and arguing, and she has made it her life’s mission to make him understand that she is furious.”My mouth curved into a humorless smile. “Good. Let her doubt him. The more cracks there are, the easier it will be for me to pry them open. And eventually, it would be the right chance to play things our way.”She hesitated. “I heard from the school that your sister Bianca’s unsettled. She’s afraid yo

Alaria:Liam’s tone alone set my wolf on edge.“Anastasia is not going to school today,” he said the moment he stepped inside, his eyes dark and unreadable. The words hit me like a stone. I looked up from where I was sorting through the errands for the pack house, frowning. “Why?”He didn’t answer right away. He just stripped off his jacket and loosened his tie, the weight of something he wasn’t saying hanging between us. His silence was heavier than his tone. He poured himself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid catching the light, but he didn’t answer.“Liam,” I pressed, stepping closer, “she needs her school. It’s not just classes, it’s the only place she feels normal. You can’t keep her locked away. That’s not fair to her. She is just a child. She deserves a chance of normality, she deserves a chance to live her life. I don't want her to keep being locked away, she's already been through so much.”He finally looked at me, his eyes sharp and cold. “It’s dangerous.”I shook my head

Darius:The slam of the door barely startled me.I knew that he would be coming, I just wanted to wait until the right moment before I reacted.I didn't even bother looking up when he stormed into my office, his eyes filled with rage, anger, and whatever it was that he wanted to claim he was.“You fucking bastard…”“Barging into my house now, brother?” I drawled, not lifting a finger as he marched across the floor. I just stood as I took a step towards him, putting down the paper that I was reading through. “That’s bold. Even for you. I must admit, I am impressed. As for calling me a bastard, I believe that I grew up with that title.”He didn’t answer, his fist did.The punch cracked against my jaw, snapping my head to the side. The taste of blood filled my mouth, copper and heat, but I smiled. “Finally,” I muttered. “I was wondering when you’d stop pretending to be civilized. And I was wondering when it would be time for us to go back to the reality of how things are.”He came at me

Liam:The meeting was over hours ago, but Darius’s smug voice still rang in my ears. The way his eyes met mine. I'm the pride that I wanted to do nothing more than to break.Hello, brother. The way he said it, calm, mocking, like the years apart were just a game to him, made my wolf claw to the surface. It took everything in me not to lose control, to remind myself that we were amongst humans. And I knew that he was playing with that card. And then he had the audacity to mention Riley. His niece. The child who had nothing to do with me. And yet. I stood by her mother’s side when no one else would have. When he was away, I was the one who stood by her mother, and yet she, just like everyone else, turned her back on me. Not only that, she tried to turn the Council on me.“Find him.” My voice cut like steel as I gave the order. “Find Ryan. I don’t care where he’s hiding or what hole he’s crawled into, drag him back here. Alive. If anyone is going to answer for this treason, it is going t
