ARIA

“The river,” he said gently, eyes glinting with memory. “The rabbit you tried to save that bit you.”

I snorted. “It didn’t bite me that hard!”

“You cried for an hour.”

“You shoved me in the water to ‘toughen me up.’”

Kael chuckled, and the lines on his face softened. “You’ve changed, Aria.”

“So have you.” I hesitated, then offered a small smile.

“I’m proud of you.”

That made me pause.

“I mean it,” he said. “You didn’t just survive. You built a life. And now you’re here… still trying to protect people. You’re still you.”

Kael looked down at his hands. I hadn’t noticed before, but now I saw them clearly. His hands were marked, scarred across the knuckles and forearms. Some were jagged and faded… some were fresh. Goddess above all, they looked awful.

“What… happened?” I asked softly, sliding off the desk and reaching forward instinctively.

Kael looked up, eyes locking with mine.

“I wear them proudly.”

My fingers froze just above his skin.

He said it like he meant it. But I didn't un

ARIA“Lucian!” Liam thundered. “Do you want me to kill them myself?”Lucian began to tremble. Albena… no. He wouldn't let that happen. “I'll do it myself. Just give me time.”“Time? There is no fucking time!” Liam said, pacing to and fro. “Listen, the rogues are coming in today.”“What?” Lucian’s mouth was dry. His father’s words rang in his ears like poisoned bells: “Kill them.” But why… He had grown alongside these children. Albena was the future Luna who smiled at him with soft, grateful eyes. Kael was the son of the greatest gamma who always stood in front of her like a wall no one could break. They were both his friends. They'd been kind to him.Lucian's eyes snapped to his father in shock. This was planned already. The Gammas were out to settle a border feud between the Bloodfang and rogues… and his father, Liam had thought this was a good opportunity to annihilate the family that took care of him. Lucian's fingers curled into fists at his sides. He didn't want to do it, but the

ARIADenera’s voice came again, softer now, as if she were speaking right next to me.“Let yourself feel it. You are not in danger. You’re just remembering. You were young. Whole. This is where the truth begins, Albena White-Lyall Obsidian. Years ago, before it all shattered. Go to her… go to the girl you were before the world turned cruel.”I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t. I could almost see them now—flashes of hair, small fingers brushing tree bark. One of them was me.The other was… my mouth fell open.Lilia! But how…?“You’re close,” Denera whispered. “So close. Just a little deeper.”I tried to move, but it felt like wading through tar.“Follow the light, Albena. Find the first day your soul tried to forget.”—------------“Ow! The rabbit bit me, Kael…”Albena burst into tears, holding her hands up to a bigger boy.He was three years older than her, so he was seen as her big brother. But everyone knew they weren’t siblings. He was just someone the entire pack trusted enough to be

ARIA“Tell me every damn thing… the whole story.” and I meant it. Whatever he had to say, whatever truth I had been shielded from… I wanted to hear it now.Kael sighed. “I'll refresh your memory, Albena. It's better if you remember yourself.” he paused. “Denera knows a method.”I nodded. “Is someone out there?”A messenger entered immediately.“Can you send for Denera Shadowsong?” I asked the messenger by the door. “Tell her I need her… please.”The man gave a respectful nod, then slipped out without a word. Kael raised a brow but didn’t question it. Instead, he shifted beside me and spoke with a calm warmth.“You are a bit tense. The remembrance can only happen if you are relaxed. So, relax. Denera is good at what she does. It’s actually a good thing she’s here.”I let out a strained chuckle. “Thanks. You saying that makes me just a little more nervous.”He gave a quiet smile, but before either of us could say more, the door creaked open. Clara stepped in with Denera.“You can go, Cl

ARIAKael was alive in flesh and blood! “I…” I took a step back, stunned. “But you—”“I survived,” he said simply. “Denera, my mate found me and nursed me back to health. Then Lucian told me you were alive and that you were Luna. I came as quickly as I could. To see you, dear Aria…”Whatever I had to say, dried on my lips. My heart thudded too hard. No, it cannot be…Kael…Who was Kael again? I knocked at my head, trying to remember what Kaelvin meant to me. I knew he meant more… more than a friend and more like a brother. Why the fuck did he have to die back then?!A sob threatened to break out. “Lucian…”Lucian glanced at Tobias, Maren and then Lilia. She was the one I pitied the most because she had no idea what was going on. “Give us a moment, will you?”Tobias immediately grinned. “Should we leave slowly and dramatically or run while we can?”Maren rolled her eyes. “We’re going, we’re going.”“Just saying,” Tobias muttered as he dramatically took Maren’s arm and dragged her along.

ARIAMy face was still buried in his chest.“Goddess, you are pathetic, Aria.” I whispered to myself, still taking in gulps of his scent. If that was even possible.Deep breaths in, and out.In and out.“Aria?” I heard Lilia call me. Her tone was a little confused, probably wondering what the hell I was doing. Nope. Neither Aria nor Whitee was on the line. I didn’t even lift my head when Tobias shouted at Lucian for taking so long to return… or when when I heard Maren’s boots clicking behind him or her shrill gasp of surprise.Everyone could keep their surprise, shock and excitement to themselves because Lucian was mine. He was here, solid, real and warm. All for me.“All for you, huh?” Whitee whispered mischievously. “Now, you cannot get enough of him, right?”I shook my head. “Leave me alone, Whitee and bask in the warmth of our mate. He is back…”“Hm.” Whitew purred. If that was even possible because what was that contented noise that came out of her throat? “If only you weren't suc
