Lia:

I didn’t get far.

The wounds that I had stopped me from getting further than I wanted to.

The corridor narrowed ahead of me, the lights dimmer, the air heavier. I skidded to a stop when three figures stepped out of the shadows.

The beta stood in front.

Calm. Controlled. Assessing.

Two gammas flanked him, shoulders loose, eyes sharp, already measuring distance and damage. Fighters. The kind that didn’t need orders once instinct took over.

I backed up slowly, heart slamming against my ribs.

“So,” the beta said evenly, “this is where you decided to run. You couldn’t actually try to stay a few days before giving it a shot?”

“I’m leaving,” I said, even though my voice shook. “Move. I never planned on staying in the first place.”

“Well, that is no way to say thank you to the pack that saved you.” The beta said, taking a step toward me. I took a step back, my heart racing as I feared what was to come. “And unfortunately for you, the Alpha did not give the order to let you leave.”

  • Alpha Marcel   Chapter 18

Marcel:She was shaking when we reached my room. Not violently, but enough that I noticed the way her shoulders tensed, the way her breath hadn’t quite steadied since the forest. I closed the door behind us and moved to the sideboard, pouring water into a glass before handing it to her.“Drink, it’s just water, but it is known to be good for those who choose to run.” I said, thankful that we managed to get to the room without her being caught. “I’ll have the maids bring in something to eat in a bit. You could use something to help you regain your strength.”She hesitated, then took it. Her fingers brushed mine for half a second before she pulled back like she’d touched fire. Her heart raced against her chest, and I could tell that this wasn’t a situation that she counted for.I grabbed a blanket from the chair and draped it over her shoulders. “It will help you warm up.”Her eyes flicked up to me, suspicion sharp and immediate. But I could see her fighting back the urge to relax or ho

  • Alpha Marcel   Chapter 17

Lia:The ground was cold beneath my back.Marcel’s weight pressed me into the earth, solid and unmovable, his grip firm around my wrists as he pinned them above my head. I twisted beneath him, fought with everything I had left, but he was heavier, stronger.Unfairly so.And no matter how hard I tried, the man wouldn’t even budge… not even when I kicked him.“Let me go,” I hissed, kicking uselessly. “You’ve been holding me down for the past few minutes. Either you let me go, or the two of us can actually fight for it.”He didn’t loosen his hold, but I noticed something that made my chest stutter. He was careful.Every shift of his body avoided my shoulder. His hand never brushed the cut on my arm. Even now, when I was fighting him like a cornered animal, he was controlling himself.I hated that I noticed.I hated that my body noticed.“And you really need to stop thinking that I am going to let you go.” He said, low and sharp. Then he moved. In one smooth motion, he rose and hauled me

Marcel:The door opened.I didn’t look up at first.I already knew who I was expecting to see.The bond tugged, sharp, impatient, pulling my attention toward the threshold. I rose from behind the desk, irritation already simmering, prepared to face whatever defiance she had decided to bring with her this time.“Alpha.”It wasn’t her voice. Not that I expected it anyway.“What did she do this time?” I looked up, raising an eyebrow.Vladimir stood in the doorway, his expression tight, controlled, but there was no hiding the tension in his eyes.“She ran,” he said. For a heartbeat, the world went silent.“And they just her go?” I asked, getting up from my chair.“She slipped away again,” he continued. “This time through the gardens. She moved fast. Smarter than before. She is following instinct, I assume. But the men can’t find her.”I swore under my breath, a vicious curse tearing out of me as I shoved past him.“Of course she had.” I muttered sarcastically. “Give it to the rogue to run

  • Alpha Marcel   Chapter 15

Lia:The summons didn’t come quietly. It came with bells. Not the kind that chimed sweetly, but the low, ceremonial toll that rolled through the consort hall and settled in my bones like a warning. Servants moved faster. Guards took their posts. Silk banners were being raised along the walls, crimson and gold, the Alpha’s colors woven with symbols I recognized all too well.It was the way that I was made. The way my mother was called. And the way fate had sealed itself long before anything truly happened.Marking symbols.Mating day.My breath caught.Theia appeared at my side, her expression set, unyielding. “The Alpha has called for you,” she said. “You are to present yourself immediately. He is waiting for you in his chamber.”Around us, the hall shifted. Whispers turned sharp. Eyes gleamed.“She’s being summoned on mating day,” someone murmured.“During preparations?”“Bold,” another whispered. “Most likely the Alpha is in need of something to loosen the stress.”“Ladies, behave y

  • Alpha Marcel   Chapter 14

Marcel:I felt it before I heard it.That sharp twist in the air. The subtle shift in the pack’s rhythm that only came when something was decided without my consent. The preparation of something that I had not heard of…But when the guard entered my room. When he gave me the news… that was when everything snapped.“Repeat that,” I said. “And repeat it as it is said.”“Alpha, I have not said a word that is not true. The mother Luna has informed me herself, and she told me to tell you.” The guard hesitated, then straightened. “She has begun preparations for a mating ceremony. She says that it is long overdue, and it has to be done.”The word hit like a blade.I stood so abruptly the chair scraped hard against the floor. “How did she prepare for something like this?”“She’s ordered fabric selections. Formal planning,” he added carefully. “It’s being spoken of openly. Everyone around these grounds has heard of it. Those who are your allies are being called from all around. She is making s

Elara:The consort hall welcomed me the way it always did.Soft music. Perfumed air. Voices that lowered the moment I stepped inside, not out of fear, but recognition. I took my usual seat among the consorts, posture relaxed, expression carefully neutral.I hadn’t come to assert authority. None of them has been in the Alpha’s bed for me to need to prove a point. And they knew that I was sleeping in his room until morning… even if nothing happened, the idea of them thinking that it did… it was enough. But I had come to see her.And it didn’t take long.Lia sat apart from the others, shoulders slightly drawn in, hands folded too tightly in her lap. She looked smaller here than she had any right to be. Timid, almost fragile, yet I could see it beneath the surface.FireIt was in the way her spine stayed straight despite the stares. In the tension coiled beneath her stillness. A wolf pretending not to bare her teeth, waiting to strike. She didn’t approach me.Didn’t acknowledge me.Didn’t
