Mariah POV
Heading out of the house, the first thing I noticed was that Nick switched cars. I must admit he has good taste for cars. He is now driving a White GMC. We reach the car, and when I get in, my best friend Rose sits on her phone. She is wearing a royal blue casual dress with some silver sandals. Her hair is in a high ponytail, and I can tell she is wearing some blue eye shadow, which she does only for special occasions. She is more of a nude-colored type of girl. We head to the party, and as we get close, we see a lot of cars in the driveway. We are now at the Silver Mountain pack, and the scenery is quite beautiful. Nick parks in one of the reserved parking for alphas, and we all get out of the car.“You guys made it,” Logan says.
“You know we never miss a good party,” Josh replies.
“Well, just head inside. Everyone is out in the back by the pool,” Logan says.
“Alright, cool,” Nick replies.
We head to the backyard, and what I see shocks me. The place is beautiful, from the lights to the pool. The whole place is breathtaking.
“You guys want something to drink?” Josh asks.
“Tequila,” We all say at the same time.
“You’re getting in the pool later?” Rose asks me.
“You know it, I brought my bikini,” I reply.
“I did too, and I can’t wait to put it on so Amma head to the bathroom,” Rose giggles.
“Go ahead, I’ll wait here. I need to have a few drinks in my system before I jump in,” I reply.
“Okay, I’ll be right back,” Rose says.
Now it’s just Nick standing here. I turn my back to him and start looking around. This house is gorgeous. I see a few kids from school, and they wave at me, so I wave back. Suddenly, I feel a presence behind me a little too close, and by the sent, I can tell it is Nick.
“You look breathtaking today.” He whispers huskily in my ear.
I hitch my breath to not let out a moan. I hate how my body reacts to him.
“Thank You,” I say with a shaky breath.
“I hate how u have all these men’s eyes on you; it makes me want to rip their eyes out.” He replies with a growl.
“What do you mean? Nobody is looking at me. Plus, you don’t own me, Nick.” I reply, annoyed.
I elbow him so he can get away from me and start walking away in search of my best friend.
The asshole who he thinks he is. His girlfriend Mila needs to hurry up and get here to get him off my back. I start heading upstairs, looking for Rose, when I hear giggling. Now, who has my best friend laughing like that, I wonder. When I finally get closer, I see her leaning against the wall in her royal blue bikini, looking beautiful. But who is that guy who has her blushing and giggling?“There you are. I have been looking for you. I got worried that you got lost or something.” I say with a smirk.“Ha ha, very funny. No, I was just here talking to Alpha Taylor.” Rose says.
“Hey, nice to meet you.” He says and extends his hand for a handshake.
“Mariah,” I say and reach out to shake his hand.
“Well, I’m going to leave you two talking. I’m going to go put on my bathing suit. I say with a light smirk.
“Okay, I’ll see you in the pool. We are going to go and get in,” Rose replies.
“Okay, have fun,” I say and walk into the bathroom.
I take my clothes off, put them in a bag, and put my bikini on. “Damn, I look good,” I say to myself, looking in the mirror. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. “Just a minute, almost done.” And another bang on the door. What the hell didn’t I just tell them in a minute. I walk to the door, ready to curse someone out, but when I open the door, I’m shocked to see who is on the other side.
“What the hell are you doing here, Nick,” I ask, totally annoyed that he is here. He is looking at me like a predator looks at his prey, his eye changing color from blue to gold, showing his wolf fighting for control. His eyes return to normal, meaning he sent his wolf to the back of his mind. “What do you want Nick?” I ask and cross my hands. He turns around and locks the door. What the hell? I think to myself. What is he doing?
“Why are you closing the door?” I ask, feeling nervous. He starts walking towards me, and I start backing up. The look he is giving me makes my stomach flutter. He puts his hands on the wall and cages me in. He leans in. “Who said you can wear a bikini as tempting as this, Riah?” he whispers in my ear huskily. I look at him in shock. What did he just say? Who the hell does he think he is? I try to push him off me, but the bastard grabs my hands and pin them over my head. “Now, Riah, that’s not how you treat your Alpha.” He says with a smirk.
“No, you are right. That is not how I treat my Alpha, but it is how I treat the asshole manhandling me.” I snap. He gets close, pinning me to the wall. I bite my lip when I feel his dick pressing against me. His free hand runs slowly down my neck, going down between my breasts. “You know, Riah, you like seeing me mad.” He whispers, looking at my lips.
“You get mad because you want to. I’m not doing anything to you, Nick.” I roll my eyes and say.
“But you are. I hate the way these horny wolves look at you.” He says and growls.
“They’re only looking; it’s not like they are touching. What am I saying? I don’t have to explain myself to you.” I reply. He suddenly lets go of my hands and grips my chin. “Nobody is allowed to touch you but me. Do you understand?” He says coldly. I swallow hard. Something about his possessiveness turns me on, and I hate it. He slams his lips against me, and I suppress a moan. He pulls away and starts kissing down my neck. “Tell me your mine.” He says and nibbles my ear. “Nick, this has to stop. You have Mila, and my brother is your best friend.” I reply and push him off me. I grab my things and leave the bathroom.
Mariah POVThe music was soft, the kind that was supposed to lift spirits but only made the air heavier. The packhouse smelled like food and faint cologne, and laughter drifted from the main room, but I could feel the hollowness under it all. This wasn’t really a party. It was a performance.A celebration “for Nick and Josh” — to cheer them up after my supposed death. Wolves raised glasses and gave sympathetic smiles, clapping the future Alpha and Beta on the back like they hadn’t just buried a piece of themselves. They had no idea I was still breathing.Only our close friends and family knew the truth. And tonight, that truth was a weapon. The adults weren't here tonight and everyone that knew the plan where in the spot they were assigned making sure Mila didn't have a chance to escape in case she tried. I crouched in the shadow of the staircase, hidden by the curve of the banister. My heart thudded with adrenaline, not fear. For the first time in weeks, I wasn’t trembling because I
Mariah POVI woke up with fire in my chest. No more crying. No more hiding in blankets and pretending I didn’t hear my own screams echo in my head. I was done being the victim. Mila wanted to play dirty? Good. Because I was done playing nice.Nick stirred beside me, still asleep, one arm locked protectively around my waist. His grip was tight, like even in sleep he thought I might vanish again.I didn’t move. I just stared at the ceiling and replayed her voice in my head. Mila, laughing. She thought she’d get away with it.Not a chance.I slowly slid out of Nick’s grasp and got out of bed. My legs were shaky, but they worked. My body ached, but I was breathing. And I was ready.I made it to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Pale. A little sore. But alive. And soon? I’d make sure Mila regretted every second of it.Nick walked in a few minutes later, his face soft with concern but eyes sharp, scanning me from head to toe. “You okay?”“No,” I said honestly. “But I know what I want
Mariah POV“I’ll check in later,” Rose said, already halfway out the door. She gave me a small wink. “Don’t overdo it.”I smiled faintly and nodded, watching her close the door behind her with a soft click. The room felt still again. Too still.Nick sat silently in the chair beside my bed, his elbows resting on his knees, eyes fixed on the floor like he was stuck in a thought he couldn’t shake.I shifted slightly, wincing as a sharp ache rolled through my side. “She worries more than my mom,” I said, trying to lighten the air.He looked up and cracked a smile. “She’s earned the right. You scared the hell out of all of us.”I glanced down at my hands, pale and thinner than I remembered. “I scared myself.”Nick reached for my hand. “But you’re here.”“Yeah,” I said softly. “I’m here.”I let that settle between us for a moment — the truth of it. I was here. Breathing. Healing. But still hiding. Nick’s thumb brushed against my wrist, slow and steady. I knew he was holding back everything
Nick POVI was finally allowed to bring Mariah home after two long weeks at the hospital. I ordered the Doctor not to let her go until she managed to walk on her own, which didn’t sit right with Mariah but I didn't want to risk her or our pups so she ended up accepting it. When we arrived at the packhouse I ordered two of my trusted guards to make sure Mila was nowhere in the packhouse. Logan and Taylor had been keeping an eye on her in school but she was absent today so we didn't want to risk it. Once they alert me that the close is clear I sneak in Mariah into one of the guest bedrooms.I helped her onto the bed slowly, keeping a hand on her waist the entire time. She was still weak, and even though she wouldn’t say it out loud, I could tell she hated it. She hated feeling useless. I wish she didn’t feel like that if only she knew how strong we all thought she was. She leaned back against the pillows and looked around the room. “This isn’t our room,” she said quietly.“I know. It'
Mariah POVThe room was quiet again. Nick had just shut the door behind the rest of them, and the sound of their footsteps receded into the hallway, but he didn’t move. Of course, he stayed. I don’t think I could’ve let him go if I tried. He didn’t say a word for the first few minutes. Just pulled the chair closer to the side of the bed, his eyes never leaving me. There was a storm behind them—rage, heartbreak, guilt—and something softer beneath it all. Love. Relief. “You should rest,” he said quietly. I gave him a weak smile. “I’ve been resting. That’s all I’ve done.” He reached for my hand again, and I laced my fingers through his. The warmth of his touch grounded me. It was the only thing that felt real in a world that had turned upside down. “I thought I lost you,” he whispered, eyes dropping to our joined hands. “When the link broke, when no one could find you… it nearly destroyed me.” “I know,” I said. “I felt it. That night… I thought it was over. I could feel
Nick POVMariah’s voice was hoarse, but her words hit like a bomb.“Mila planned it all. She sent someone to poison me. She wanted me dead.”The air in the hospital room thickened instantly. Every breath turned heavy. My heart stuttered, then roared to life.“She what?” Taylor growled, stepping forward.Mariah’s hand tightened around mine. Her body was still weak, bruised, but there was a fire in her eyes now — sharp and unflinching.“She told him to make it painful,” she said. “She wanted me to suffer. Then she’d step in and try to comfort Nick, so that he can choose her as his Chosen Luna.”Rose cursed under her breath. “That psycho always had her eye on you, Nick.”“He did date her at some point,” Logan says, and Nick growls.“I wouldn’t call that dating,” Rose says with a huff.“Didn’t she try offering you her help for Mariah’s search?” Josh seethe.“Yeah, I told her no.” I snap.“And now we know why,” Logan growled. The rage building inside me was hard to contain. It wasn’t just
