Chapter 1

Autor: Judy Summers
For five years, my pup's soul and mine remained trapped in this run-down shack, never once dissipating. I never knew why.

During those same five years, Kade Irvin had risen from a Rogue to the supreme Alpha of the Snowmoon pack.

Standing at his side was Tiffany Hart, the most beautiful she-wolf in the pack. Her arm was looped through his.

A cold wind swept through the area, stirring up clouds of fine gray dust. Tiffany covered her nose and spoke with open disgust. "Kade, do you think Nala is reluctant to donate me her bone marrow? Maybe I should just wait for my death."

Five years ago, Tiffany had been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer unique to werewolves. By a cruel twist of fate, my blood type matched hers perfectly.

Before I died, I had been dragged onto the operating table time after time. Without using anesthesia, they forcibly extracted my living bone marrow, over and over, just to keep her alive.

Kade lowered his head to look at Tiffany. The cold sharpness on his face melted into a gentle smile.

"Don't worry, Tiffany," he said. "No matter where she and that bastard pup are hiding, I'll find them."

Our pup, Edmund Irvin, who had been floating beside me, shrank back in fear when he heard that. "Mommy, is that man really my daddy?"

Edmund died when he was only three. I didn't know how to explain to him, so I pulled him into my arms and ruffled his hair. "It's okay, Edmund. He can't catch us."

Kade kicked the door open. The crash echoed through the premises and startled Patricia Howl, the old she-wolf living next door. She shuffled over on trembling legs and asked cautiously, "Who are you looking for?"

"The one who lives here," he answered.

Patricia narrowed her cloudy eyes. "You mean Nala? She's been dead for a long time."

Kale's face paled, and he froze in disbelief.

Tiffany, however, lifted a hand to her lips and laughed softly. "Ma'am, you shouldn't joke like that. Ms. Whitlock has a strong wolf soul and excellent self-healing. How could she die so young? I think she's just upset and is hiding on purpose."

Hatred flared in Kade's eyes. "That's right. Nala has always liked pretending to be sick to gain sympathy. I got tired of her tricks a long time ago. Tell her this—if she still wants to see her bastard pup, she'd better come to me by tomorrow."

Patricia slowly looked him up and down. A sharp, undisguised sneer slipped from her shrieveled lips.

"Young man, the bastard you're talking about is Nala's child, isn't it?" she asked. "That poor little pup died a long time ago, too. I buried him myself."

After Edmund was gone, Kade's life seemed to enter a slow countdown. He called the council of elders and announced his decision to step down. The Alpha position was then passed to his loyal Beta, Calvin. He sold every piece of property he owned. With that money, he built an orphanage in the slums, naming it after Edmund and me. It was a place for the pups abandoned by their packs.Once that was done, he returned to the old shack. This was the place he had chosen as his final resting place. He lay down on the tiny bed, taking out a vial from his pocket.Inside was a potent sedative, strong enough to bring even a powerful Alpha to his end in an instant. He swallowed it in one gulp, pressed our photographs to his chest, and lay down quietly."Nala, Edmund… here I come," he murmured. "This time, we'll stay together as a family… never separated again."His breathing grew weaker and shallower. The moment his soul slipped free of his body, I felt the last chain binding me dissolve comple

After settling Tiffany's account, Kade's life fell into a rigid routine. He took out the old photos of us and wiped them with the softest cloth he could find.Sometimes, he would talk to the pictures, reminiscing about our days in the wastelands. Halfway through, his voice would break, and he would end up sobbing uncontrollably.Other times, he would lie on the bed where I had died. He would stretch out an arm, forming the shape of an embrace and pretending that I was still sleeping against his chest.I watched it all with numb detachment… until one night, I felt the invisible chain of lingering attachment binding me and Edmund finally loosening bit by bit.A warm, gentle light appeared in the air. It was neither the moonlight nor the lamplight. In fact, it didn't even belong to this world.Edmund's soul, which had always stayed close by my side, was drawn toward that glow. Bathed in the light, he was no longer the frail little boy I remembered. His body stretched and shifted. At

Kade stayed in the shack for three whole days. He neither drank nor ate, just sitting there like a stone statue with its soul hollowed out.On the fourth day, Tiffany finally came looking for him. She stared at the shack, now spotless yet filled with a lifeless silence. Shock flashed across her face. Then, she schooled her expression into a familiar look of grievance. She rushed toward Kade and threw herself at him. "Where have you been, Kade?" she cried. "I was so worried about you! The healer said my cancer has worsened again. I'm so scared…"In the past, Kade would've already pulled her into his arms and soothed her. This time, he slowly lifted his head and looked at her. His gaze was foreign—no anger, no grief, just bleakness."Your cancer, huh?" he repeated the words softly, his voice painfully hoarse. "I had the best healers in the pack examine your blood samples, Tiffany."Tiffany's body stiffened. Kade stood up and began walking toward her, one step at a time. With every

Kade returned to the shack where I had lived before I died. This time, he didn't kick the door open. His hands trembled as he pushed the rotting wooden door inward. Inside, there was nothing but the stale smell of mold and dust lingering in the air.He sank to his knees in the center of the room, right at the very floor where I had once curled and writhed from agony. He remembered how, just days ago, he had stood here and tried to restart the mind-link, only to receive silence. Back then, all he felt was anger and more suspicion. His Alpha pride had formed an unbreakable barrier, blocking out the faint echo of death beneath it. He couldn't hear anything, so he arrogantly assumed it was me refusing him. Now, that pride was shattered. The barrier was gone. He was no longer issuing commands—just a beggar who bared his soul completely, praying for even the tiniest response.Eyes closed, body shaking, he offered up the last bit of his pride to the void. And so, the echo of death that

Kade braced himself against the blood-stained ground, swaying as he struggled to stand. He was still trying to use anger to erase the panic clawing at his heart. As long as he could prove that I was undeserving of pity, his years of neglect and humiliation toward Edmund would've been justified."So what… if he was my son?" he choked out, eyes blazing red as he glared at Damon."That bitch Nala betrayed me first! She threw away her dignity, chasing money and power, just to climb into your bed! She doesn't deserve to be a mother, and she sure as hell doesn't deserve to be my Luna!"Damon laughed as if he had just heard something absurd. "Betrayed you?"Unhurried, he took out his phone and unlocked an encrypted video folder. "In your memory, she was seducing me, wasn't she? Did you ever stop to think about why you saw us in the first place? Or what happened after you were dragged out of that room?"He shoved the phone right up to Kade's eyes and hit play. It was a surveillance video

"Dead?"Kade sounded like he had just heard the biggest joke in the world. He released Calvin's collar, a mocking smile tugging at his lips. "To cover up her lies, you're even making up stuff like this now? Five years ago? He was still in school then. How could he possibly die?"Calvin trembled all over, too terrified to meet Kade's gaze. He stammered, "It's true… The school's records show that Mr. Edmund… was officially declared deceased… five years ago."A storm gathered in Kade's eyes. He raised his hand sharply, as if he would crush his nonsensical Beta assistant into pieces.A cold voice cut through the tension. "Enough, Kade."Damon leaned casually against a car door, looking at Kade like he was a pitiful wolf. He pulled a neatly folded file from his coat and tossed it onto Kade's chest."You only look like an Alpha when you're bullying your subordinate," he commented. "Open your eyes and take a good look at this."It was a slightly old medical report. The paper had yello
