Maddie POV
We hadn’t spoken much since arriving back to Drake’s Pack house. I have found myself reflecting on my life. On what I felt I had lost up to that point. Don’t misunderstand, I had a generous upbringing and it caused me conflicted feelings. Finding out you weren’t who you thought you were, that you had a sibling you will never meet, might have another in Kate, have a mate, were promised to never live beyond my very sheltered and controlled life. It sounds like a ridiculous complaint when I hear it. But it feels real. I feel betrayed by everyone I love.
And to know Drake had a mate who happened to be my twin before me, is a bitter pill to swallow. I have no idea how to move past that. Or how to feel about it. I realize it happened before me; I re

Kate POV As we went through the itinerary, I had to admit Josey did a good job planning so we would be able to make optimal time and cover as many Packs as possible during our trip. Colby knew I would only be going to half the Packs as I would not miss the deadline to be at the Golden Moon Pack in a week. When we got to the second week of the itinerary Colby spoke up. “We’ll need to reschedule week two, Josey,” he advises her. She looks at him confused and waiting for an explanation. “You don’t need to reschedule, Colby; I can take care of the Golden Moon Pack on my own,” I insert. Colby looks at me with a hint of anger, “We’ll reschedule week two,” he repeats. Josey decides this is a good time to throw in her two cents worth,
Drake POV As I walked to Maddie’s door, I felt a twinge of nervousness. I had been on date’s before, but this was the first with Maddie. I already knew I loved her, but I also knew I would have to gain her trust after everything she had been through. I could sense she was stronger than her family had given her credit for. However, I could also sense a delicate balance of her strength and her self-doubts. As I tapped on her door, I stood back waiting for her to answer. As she opened the door, I felt the breath leave my body. She was wearing a black dress with thin straps that showed she wasn’t wearing a bra. Her slim body had curves in the right places. The dress hugged those curves as she moved to grab her black leather jacket and a small purse. There was a small slit up her right l
Colby POV As I met with my Betas Seth and Reg, I considered Josey’s comments about the Nighthawk Pack. The fact was I was going with Kate one way or another to the Golden Moon Pack. As Seth, Reg and I considered our options, I put a call into the Alpha of Nighthawk Pack to get a sense of what he needed to discuss. As I left a message for Alpha Aaron, I look to Seth and Reg, “Seth, I am going to send you there for the meeting next week,” I share with them. “Reg, you will manage everything at this end, and I will be in Golden Moon Pack on the weekend,” I add. “No problem, Alpha, just let me know what the discussion is, and I’ll be prepared to meet with them,” Seth says. “Let’s go over training plans, before you head out tomorrow morning” Reg adds.
Kate POV Colby and I had a whirlwind trip visiting the various Packs for the first few days. We visited four Packs in three days. All Packs had both an Alpha and a Luna. The hospitality was amazing. We ended up staying at a couple of the Packs overnight. The kindness bestowed upon us was second to none. I thoroughly enjoyed my role of Luna while visiting the Packs. Some Packs had their Luna attend the business meetings and a couple opted to host me elsewhere. I was fine with either option. Colby was very forthcoming in sharing anything of peculiarity. We liked bouncing ideas off one another and I valued him more for respecting my opinion. So whether I attended a meeting or not, I still understood the business challenges discussed. The Red River Pack was up next. We were just arriving to the Pack territory. Much
Kate POV Slamming my fist on the Pack house door, I demand that Alpha Jordan explain himself. After seeing Alpha Jordan would not be opening the Pack house door, I turn to storm down the stairs as Colby keeps pace with me. “What the hell did that mean?” I ask him not expecting an answer. Who the hell knew what it meant? “Kate, he is likely just being an ass. He’s too young to have known your father,” he reminds me. “He is so out of the alliance, Colby; he’s a neanderthal,” I say to him as Colby opens the door for me. He chuckles at me as I turn to look back at the Pack house to see Jordan in the window of his office, smiling at me as he waves. Colby catches the gesture and nudges me to get into the SUV. Colby gets into t
Colby POV “She was poisoned,” Kate says. Why the hell would someone poison a little girl? “No, that’s not possible,” I reply in complete denial. “It’s the only thing that makes sense, Colby,” she replies. “It makes no sense, Kate. Who would do this to a little girl?” I demand. I am outraged that my little girl has been hurt and I can’t do anything to fix it. “What are you doing now?” I ask the Pack doctor. She had Amelie removed from the ice bath. “Now we treat her, as best we can, with the poison in her. I can only hope the damage is limited, given the time the wolfsbane has been in her system,” she says as she helps the nurses prepare Amelie to be taken back to her room. “What does that mean? It only
Kate POV I head back to the Pack house wanting to change out of my business suit. I am feeling anxious over Amelie and need to feel comfortable in my skin. I knew the next 48 hours would be critical and telling if she would survive the wolfsbane poison. Her not surviving is not an option and I refuse to believe she won’t survive. As I enter our room, I am overcome with the scent of Colby. I know he’s angry at everyone right now, but it hurt to have him shut me out. We need each other and shutting down is not going to help Amelie. I toss my clothes into the laundry basket as I grab a quick shower rinsing off the day’s travels. I quickly dry my hair and brush my teeth as I put my hair up into a high ponytail. Whatever is easiest for the next couple days, is my goal. &nbs
Kate POV It was a long night watching over Amelie but gratefully she didn’t have any more episodes. If anything, she’s been resting very comfortably, and it seems like the antidote for wolfsbane is working. Colby and I haven’t spoken since last evening. His words were spoken coldly, and I really had nothing to offer him at this point. Miranda was arriving this morning and I would take her around the Pack house to see whether she could figure anything out that would help with the mystery. I stood up stretching when Colby turned to look at me. He didn’t say anything just stared. I moved around the bed and went to wrap my arms around his neck. He didn’t reject me, like I expected he would, but he didn’t touch me either. As
