Kate POV
Knowing what it had been like when I had been captured and hoping every day to be rescued. But not wanting anyone to see me in the cells. Barely wearing any clothes. Bruised. Trapped by silver and wolfsbane. Anxious what each day might bring. Yet wishing someone you knew would walk around the corner and rescue you. Get you out of that hell.
I couldn’t imagine what Maddie had been going through. Two weeks with no sign of help. And not strong enough to fight her way out. Being helpless or feeling helpless would be the end of me. I had to hope Maddie was stronger than we perceived her to be. Stronger than even she would believe she was.
I couldn’t remember if there were any roads

Kate POV It is time. We are loading into the SUVs to drive the forty-five minutes to the spot we will get out and start the hike to the location. Shelby has been touching the outer edges of my mind. I know she is there. I simply do not know if she will be in full form. Colby has offered to carry me, which I am still laughing at. I am not sure I would feel comfortable getting on his back, even if his wolf is slightly bigger than mine. I am a fast runner, so I think I will be able to keep up for the most part providing we have a good running pace. And I am still hopeful that Shelby will be ready to make an appearance. She has nothing to feel guilty about, but I know guilt is weighing her down right now. Guilt at not being able to protect the pup. The reality is the odds we
Lara POV “Rise and shine baby sister,” I say as I walk into Maddie’s cell. She’s looking a lot worse for the wear than when I first arrived back. I have been training her myself and have not been easy on her. She has bruising all over her body and possibly a cracked rib. But as I learned at a young age, she will survive. This will make her stronger when she really has to fight with someone. I see the bruise on her cheek. Knowing we need to look at identical, I look at the warrior closest to me. “Punch me so I have a matching bruise to the one on her cheek,” I say to the warrior. He looks at me confused until I punch him in the face. “Punch me so I have a matching bruise to the one on her cheek,” I repeat to him coldly. Looking at Maddie, he takes aim at my face. He hits
Drake POV Everything was running through my mind. I had just watched my Alpha, my brother, be killed by rogues. He was only here to help me. Many did not know he was my brother. We did not discuss it a lot. What I knew was that his death would impact my life. I suddenly find myself the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack. I had never anticipated being the Alpha. I was an Alpha by blood, but it was always understood my brother would be the Alpha, so I never took much notice. I had grown up supporting him. When we discussed me being his Beta, we had agreed I would continue supporting him in his role with the intention I would be the spare Alpha should anything ever happen to him. You never expect something to happen to your Alpha. It would change so many things for Maddie an
Lara POV Confused I try to look around, but Drake has my face held in a vice grip. Suddenly I hear gunfire, but I cannot get away from Drake. He is holding onto me tightly. I can feel the sense of panic all around me and I cannot help but start to laugh at the situation. I had every detail planned down to the minute and yet I had not anticipated being caught. Drake continued holding me as chaos surrounded us. I could hear yelling. I could hear screams. And yet there was an increasing silence as we stared into each other’s eyes. Maddie was a blessed woman as she was in everything. The Moon Goddess had blessed her with a good life and a good mate. “You just made the biggest mistake of your life,” I say to
Kate POV Looking around the area, I was trying to spot Lara to see where she may have gone off to. I catch a glimpse of her black leather jacket going around the corner of the building. I start to run to follow her when Jasmine screams for my help. I look at the couple and see that Samuel has an arterial leg wound. Running toward her, I rip the material from his injured leg from his jeans where his wound is running red around him. Grabbing a branch, I call to one of the warriors. I wrap Samuel’s leg using the branch to help improvise a tourniquet. He is bleeding way to fast. I do not know if he will make it. Yelling orders to the warrior and calling another over, I tell them to run him back to a vehicle and get him out of here. I have Jasmine continue to hold her hand over the
Kate POV Sitting and waiting for word on someone, anyone, who was with the medical teams was painful. Every time someone walked around the corner, we all caught our breath only to be disappointed. With the silver and wolfsbane coursing through their bodies, nobody could use wolf healing to sustain it. And we did not know what Maddie was given while held captive. She clearly had not have shifted into her wolf for a couple weeks. Seeing the bruising on her back and sides was indication enough that she had wolfsbane in her body. Her bruising would have healed quickly as an Alpha. I expected we will hear last from her surgery. The precision required for her surgery would take time. They would not rush that procedure owing to the risk. If Lara had wanted to cause damage, she certai
Jasmine POV I could not believe how things had gotten so messed up. How everyone was suffering because of this Lara. I hated that woman. Everything about her. She was a selfish bitch who left destruction wherever she went. I could not fathom Samuel losing his leg. He was an Alpha and I did not know how he would function without a leg. Could he survive the loss? I could not think this way. The only way I was going to think was that the Moon Goddess would spare Samuel and he would fight this infection. “When can I see him?” I ask the doctor. “Follow me, Luna,” he says. Following him he leads me to Samuel’s room. As I enter the room, I see his leg wound first. It has this awful black color around it, it has been stitched closed with a drain coming out of the leg.
Kate POV It has been a week since we rescued Maddie. A lot had happened in that week. The doctors were able to save Samuel’s leg, but he would not be able to shift any time soon, if ever. There was significant damage to his leg. He required multiple screws inserted into his leg to hold it together. His wolf had not returned yet, so any self-healing was not happening until he returned. He was not gone – simply hibernating to heal itself. The doctors had to go back in to remove more infection twice, which also affected his muscle mass. All in all, he had been fortunate; however, he may never shift again. I am not sure which is better or worse, but time will tell for Samuel. For today he is happy to still have his leg. Maddie had finally woken up. She would have a lo
