YELENA

I scoffed before I could even speak, my fork still hovering over my plate. The waiter she’d been talking to came back with her order, sliding it onto the table with an exaggerated bow. “Here is your food, ma’am,” he said politely.

Livia’s lips curved into that practiced, sweet smile, soft and shiny, like she was the sunshine itself. “Thank you,” she said to him with a silky voice. “You’re all very nice here.”

The waiter practically melted. “It’s our pleasure to welcome a special guest like you, ma’am.”

Then he glanced at me, curious, like my presence alone was a puzzle. “I didn’t know you were friends with someone high, Dr. Moonrack.”

I smiled. “Now you know,” I said lightly with sarcasm, letting the words hang there like a little dagger.

The waiter nodded, turning back to her. “Enjoy, ma’am. If you need anything, you can call me.” And oh, he was trying. Totally. Leaning in a little too much, his eyes glinting. She smiled as if nothing was happening, completely calm.

NYRAI was the happiest wolf in the hospital when I heard they were both cleared. Relief washed over me, warm and soothing, and for a moment, I let myself imagine that nothing like that would ever happen again. Still, a part of me burned with curiosity, a stubborn need to see the kind of monster who could do such a thing.A week had passed, and the hospital had settled back into its usual rhythm. Peaceful. Normal. But then I heard it had been Alpha Tristan’s help that had gotten them released. A flicker of unease ran through me. I didn’t want him to use it as another chance to frustrate Lena. She didn’t love him anymore; she had found her true love, she had moved on, and I was secretly grateful he hadn’t stirred up trouble since our last encounter.Speaking of true love, I remembered Kenzie. I’d been debating accepting him back. Jackson had been pestering me, subtly but persistently, to see him again. I wanted to give Kenzie another chance. He’d realized his mistake, and though it d

YELENA I hit the table, hard enough to make the wood thrum under my palm, but he didn’t stop. Tristan kept walking toward me like I was some challenge he had to conquer, and my chest tightened with something I didn’t want to name. What was wrong with him? Why wasn’t he scared of me?“What are you doing… Tristan?” I asked, my voice trembling but laced with a mix of irritation and something else I wasn’t ready to admit. He smirked, that damn smirk that made my knees weak, and before I could even blink, he lifted me off the floor. My eyes went wide as my stomach flipped, he carried me like I was weightless, and the world spun just a little too fast.He leaned me against the table, close enough that I could feel the heat of him radiating toward me. His breath fanned across my face, and I shivered. Moon, I hated that he could make me feel like this.“You should know,” he murmured, bending so his face was near mine, “I’d do anything. Any damn thing to help you. I’d never make you sad again

YELENAI should’ve known this would happen. The moment I received that card, I should have known. I should have known it would spiral into this mess, that it wouldn’t just ruin my reputation but drag Jackson’s down with me. My teeth bit into my lower lip as I thought about it. I had wanted to get close to him, to be friends while we worked together. I had wanted to be normal, just to be around my ex-mate, a wolf who could scare the life out of anyone with a single glare. But now look at us. Look where I had dragged him.I smiled bitterly at him, at how he had tried to prove me wrong. Who would have thought we’d end up this close, only to be thrown into a deadly situation neither of us had asked for? Not as friends. Not as colleagues. Not as anything.“You're not going to suspend any of them,” a deep, sudden familiar voice boomed, snapping me out of my bitter thoughts.I turned my head sharply. Everyone in the council chamber had already frozen, some elders were midway to leaving, som

JACKSONThere was no escaping this.We were already seated inside the Pack Council chamber, the most feared room in the entire city. The walls felt too close, built with cold stone and old magic that clung to the air like smoke. The elders sat in their high black chairs, their faces stern, their eyes were sharper than wolf claws. Their presence alone was enough to make a grown wolf kneel. It was I, Lena, Selene, and the hospital director who were present. We bowed slightly to show respect, even though my wolf hated doing it. Their alpha wasn’t here, which gave me a little relief. He was worse than all of them combined. But today… the elders alone were enough to break me.The room carried a heavy silence that pressed on my chest. Whatever they decided today would either be our new beginning or the end of everything we worked for.I rubbed my palms together, trying to keep my hands from shaking. One of the elders, a tough-looking man with silver hair and eyes that looked like they had s

JACKSONMy life flashed right in front of my eyes. One second the hospital was quiet, almost too quiet. Next, everything fell apart. I didn’t even know where I went wrong or how it had happened. Since I started this work, since I joined the emergency division to treat patients, this has never happened. Not even once.We saved people. That was the job. We saved pups, saved omegas, saved alphas bleeding out after rogue attacks. We were trained for chaos. But how could someone we fought to save just die like that… like their life was nothing? And the worst part?Whoever killed that pup drained all her blood. Every drop inside this hospital. It didn't happen in the woods, on a dark street, in a hidden alley. But here on the pack grounds. Under my nose. How? Why? What kind of monster would do that? What kind of creature even had the guts?So many questions ran through my head, they almost made me lose my mind. My reputation could go down, my work could go down, my entire life could crumble

YELENAThe first thing I felt was a heavy weight on my hand.It was warm, tight, and almost desperate. When I opened my eyes, everything was bright white and blurry. I blinked once, twice, until the room finally stopped spinning. I was in a hospital bed. Me... a whole doctor lying down like one helpless patient that didn’t know the difference between a headache and real danger. Great.I turned my head and saw Tyler sitting beside me, holding my hand as if he let go, I would disappear. His head was down, his hair was messy, his jaw clenched like he had spent hours fighting ghosts only he could see. When he felt my movement, his head snapped up.“Baby… you’re awake,” he breathed, relief drowning his voice. Before I could respond, someone groaned. I looked at my other side and wow.Alpha Tristan. He was sitting there like a king who didn’t like where his throne was placed. His eyes were fixed on me, blazing and unreadable, but he kept his distance like someone told him, Touch her and you
