That was the reality I woke up to on the night of my wedding to a man twice my age who was the only one who could save my family from bankruptcy. The problem? everyone in his house hates me. everyone except one. Eli, my stepson. The only one among them that should have hated me and seen me as nothing more than another one of his father's wives. Over time, it becomes clear that Eli is the only one whose chaos can match mine. still, he's entirely off limits. Eli doesn't know boundaries, though, and he's not used to being told no. Things start to take a dark turn when I realise the dept that forced me into this marriage was not what it seemed to be. And the signature on it wasn't mine.

"Do you, Stella Brown, take this Alpha to be your mate?" I stared up at the man before me, his face blurred by my white veil. The word "No" sat at the tip of my tongue, along with the stubborn hatred I felt for everyone responsible for me being in this position. Instead, what came out were the words my mother had carefully practiced with me while forcing me into this dress. "I do." The priest nodded, face blank. "And do you, Alpha Mattias, accept this young omega to be your mate?" Mattias smiled, revealing his yellow teeth laced with diamonds. "I'd be a fool not to." "Then, here before these people as witnesses and the moon goddess herself, I proclaim you mates. You may now kiss." My heart raced, almost like I was waiting for the dramatic event that would stop this. But there was nothing. This was my reality now. A single strand of grey hair fell into his face when he leaned down and pressed his lips against mine. His tongue tried to force its way into my mouth, but my resistance held, and instead, his arm wrapped around my waist to pull me close. My eyes were fixed open, trailing across the crowd until they finally met a pair almost as intense. The man was staring at me, his gaze sharp while he clapped. Alpha Mattias pulled away, but I still couldn't bring myself to tear my gaze away from those green eyes. "What are you looking at, mate?" Alpha Mattias asked, his hand sliding down from my waist. I pulled away immediately, shooting him a disgusted look. My father, who stood near the altar after walking down the aisle, let out a pointed cough. The sound alone made my whole body stiffen, and I finally let Mattias wrap himself around me. The ceremony soon came to a close, and the tense quiet was replaced with music and people coming to congratulate us while we sat at the altar. "I'm so proud of you, my dear," Mother said, rushing up the stairs while her eyes brimmed with tears. "I know you don't see it now, but what you've done was for the benefit of all of us. You're the mate of a powerful alpha now." I slapped her hand away, forcing my gaze to fix on anything besides her. She stood before me for a second, staring down at me before turning and strutting off with a huff. "It wouldn't kill you to smile, you know," Alpha Mattias said, his voice husky and dry. "It wouldn't kill you to mate with people your age either," I retorted, regretting it almost immediately. His grip on my wrist tightened, hard enough to make me wince. My eyes glistened, but his fingers didn't loosen. "There are many girls who would give up their arms to be where you are, Stella. Now stop being such a brat. If you can't appreciate it, pretend like you do." Right when I felt his hands begin to bruise my wrist, he released me. I pulled my wrist into my lap, covering the now-bruised skin. "Of course." Someone stepped forward, and I prepared the closest thing to a fake smile my face would allow. The smile dissolved, however, the moment my eyes came in contact with the same green ones from before. The man seemed even larger up close. Probably around my age too. He had tanned bronze skin and a playful smirk plastered to his face. He winked at me before bowing down to Mattias. "Father." My eye twitched, and the sudden attraction was replaced with the disgust I had carried into my wedding dress. "Eli! I thought you would want to attend." Mattias chuckled, the first real laugh that had come from him tonight. "Now why would I miss the chance to meet my new stepmum?" He reached for my hand, his grip tightening when I tried to pull back. His lips pressed gently against the back of it, before he finally let me yank it away. I could feel his eyes lingering there though, and my face flushed when it dawned on me that my bruised wrist was exposed. "A little older than your usual tastes, isn't she, Dad?" he teased, tearing his gaze from my wrist. Somehow, his attention not being on me made me feel relieved and longing at the same time. "If you're here to insult me and your new mother, I suggest you do so from the far end of this hall, boy." Eli raised his hands up, shrugging indifferently. "If you don't want people to talk about it, then don't do it." His gaze shifted back to me. "Was it worth it?" "What?" My teeth sank into my lower lip. "Whatever it is he offered you to do this. Was it worth it?" He leaned in. "Or do you really not know what you married into?"Stella's pov My body stiffened in that position before I shoved him off and dashed out of the room.Thankfully, the coast was clear, and the hallways were empty. He followed me out, a hand pressed against his chest. "You either have an obsession with touching my chest, or you actually hate me.""I think you can guess which is the right option. I'll go down first. You follow behind me later."He didn't say anything, so I assumed he'd gotten the message. Each step towards the stairs felt like walking to an execution. The glass had already been cleaned, and the stairs were neat.Music and voices came from the dining room, where the guests who had come back with us were all already settled. The moment I stepped through, they all stopped speaking, their gazes shifting to me.Anya smiled mockingly, approaching me. "So now you want to come down. You think we're just going to cook for you and serve you up like we're your maids?"The other omegas looked uncomfortable. One in particular, a sho
Stella's POVI considered it.That was the lowest blow to my pride yet. I considered following a man who was my stepson, regardless of age, to his bedroom."I'm going to say this one last time, after which I will be screaming my head off. Get. Lost."He sighed heavily before pulling his palm off the wall. "I see."I turned back to the door, then down the hall, dread washing over me."The way I see it, you have three options. Follow me. Stand here like a moron." His hand shifted to point back in the direction he'd come from. "Or go back to the lion's den."My arm ached from how hard it pulled at the doorknob, and Anya's voice echoing down the hall completely removed the last option. "Fine.""I knew you'd agree. Come on."He turned, walking in front of me without glancing back to see if I was even following.Till now, I wasn't sure what to think of him.I'd thought his whole personality was being childishly persistent, but the way everyone had stared when he'd gotten between me and Anya
Stella's POVThe broom crashed to the floor at my feet. My eyes remained fixed on it for a moment before shifting slowly to Anya."Don't sulk. If you won't be useful for my brother, you might as well be able to clean after yourself, right?"Those around laughed, and I could feel angry tears prickling at my eyes. My fingers closed into tight fists. Then Eli leaned down, right at my feet, and picked up the broom. He looked up at me with that same smirk that continuously tempted me to smack him.He stretched his hand out to me, and for a second, I thought he'd order me to clean. With his status, I wouldn't have had a choice but to swallow my pride and do it.Instead, he turned, still smiling as he handed the broom to Anya. "Clean it."Her eyes widened, her lip trembling. "What?""You don't expect a new bride to clean on her wedding night. It's bad enough Father left her, and now you want her to clean. Where's your heart?"The way he said it was nothing short of mocking, but it seemed to
Eli's povThe girl's eyes widened before she crashed back, her arms stretched out to me.On instinct, I caught her, pulling her forward and into my chest. We stood like that, frozen in place while her body trembled and she gathered her bearings. Then her palm planted itself on my chest and shoved me away. "Have you absolutely lost your mind?"My lips curved up into a playful smirk. "I think I might. I'm so insane I just imagined you throwing yourself at me.""I wasn't throwing myself at you." She snapped, her annoyance dangerously cute."You sure about that, princess? It looked like you were."I pulled in the heavy trunk my father had instructed me to bring over while he drank with his friends.Leaving his bride on her wedding day was such a typical thing for him to do. Then again, this little omega looked more interested in biting my head off than sleeping with him."What are you doing here? Didn't your father ever teach you to knock?!" Her voice grew louder and more offended.Absolu
