Chapter 320

Kane's POV

“I need to take care of something,” Zael says while we wait outside for the warriors and witches to clear the castle.

“What?” I ask.

“Raymond.”

“What about him?”

Zael shakes his head and puts a finger to his lips. We’ve been here before, so I don’t push him. He’ll find a way to tell me when he feels it’s safe. He’s up and away before I'm done blinking.

I look over to Willow who is sitting on the steps leading to the front door. She is still perfectly at ease. I don’t think she’s ever been this relaxed. “Are you okay?” I ask.

“It bothers you when I’m not filled with angst and turmoil?”

“Yeah,” I admit. “A little.”

“Why?”

I really have to think about it before I answer her. “I don’t know any different?”

She laughs softly and leans back on the steps. Bracing herself on her elbows, she closes her eyes and turns her face to the sun. “I’m happy, that's all. The war is over, we're home. All I need now is my son and life will be perfect.”
