Kane’s POV: I sit on the foot of the bed, watching Willow strip down to her underwear, ignoring the rising arousal at the sight of her naked body. For the first time, she looks uncomfortable and feels awkward in my presence. I don’t like it. “You know,” I say. “There was a time when I didn’t care about the feelings of the she-wolves I had sex with. If I wanted it, I just had to find the closest Omega. I always asked, of course, but none of them ever said no, and as long as they didn’t say no I was okay with it, even though I knew they only consented because I’m the king.” She looks at me, her green eyes troubled. “Where are you going with this?” “I do care now, Willow. If you’d rather not do this, we’ll find some other way.” “I don’t know another way.” “Then we fight like we always fight. I don’t want you to walk away feeling like I…violated you.” “It’s not rape if I consent.” She moves a large glass container she foun
When I step out of the bathroom after showering, Kane and the glass container are both gone. Frowning, I walk through the apartment to the living room. He’s sitting on one of the armchairs, his ankle resting on his knee, reading the little diary I fetched from the tower earlier. The small book looks like a miniature toy in his big hands. I don’t know where he showered, but his wet hair hangs across his forehead, and he looks delicious in a pair of jeans and a light blue sweater that accentuates his azure eyes. He lifts his eyes to look at me, a grim smile playing around his full lips. He is really not happy right now. “I’m trying my very best not to lose my temper,” he says. I open my mouth to say something, anything, but one look from him shuts me right back up. He clears his throat, his eyes falling on the diary. “He scares me. The intensity of his love overwhelms him at times, and he cannot control his wolf,” he reads. “I asked sister Agatha about it, seeing as sh
Agatha and the witches lit up the carnivorous common room and sit in a circle waiting for us. “Once upon a time, we took up this whole floor,” she tells the witches. “But we’d gather here in this room every night for prayers.” I glance at Kane. His mood hasn’t changed, and he hates being here with the witches. I reach out to touch him, but he flinches away from me. Despite what he said, I don’t think he’s fully forgiven me. Not yet anyway. “So how do we do this?” he asks, cutting off Agatha’s reminiscing, and putting the jar in the middle of the circle. Everyone gasps when they see it and whispers rise up around us like a breeze through the trees. Even Agatha looks surprised and unsettled by it. She hovers her hand over the container, her eyes lighting up. “Strong,” she says. “Like I suspected. The aphrodisiac makes all the difference.” “We didn’t use it,” Kane says. Agatha’s eyebrows rise up. “Interesting.” “I really don’t care about how interesting all of this is, Agatha. Let’s
Kane’s POV: “Mother, get your stuff together, we’re leaving in thirty minutes.” “I’m not going,” my mother says. “I already told you, your father needs me.” “Oh, you mean the same wolf that will abjure you the moment he finds out you’re a witch? This is not a request.” I grip her by the shoulders and force her to look at me. ”Get your things together and meet me on the helipad in thirty minutes,” I order. She shivers and shooting me deadly looks run from my apartment. I turn to Willow. “You too.” “I want to stay.” Goddess, these women are driving me insane. Why do they have to argue with me about every little thing? “Do you want me to order you too?” “No. I want my magic gone.” Her anguish wraps around me, licking at my skin with its deadly tongue. I don’t know what’s going on in her head, I don’t even think she knows, but she is really suffering. Had been since the day of the battle…and I don’t know how to help her. “You are a witch, Willow,” I say softly. “Right now, you wish
Kane's POV: I’m back before most of my wolves even noticed I was gone. Glenn meets me on the helipad. “Where’s the weapon?” I ask. “Safe. No one knows, don’t worry.” “I’m not worried. I want to launch that thing as soon as possible.” “So you can get Willow back?” No. I can’t see her just yet. I need a few days at least. Willow harmed our bond, used it against me, and even if she doesn’t fully understand the damage she caused, she had enough knowledge to know she could hurt me. And she didn’t care. Dario is quiet. He’s hurt and confused. He’s furious that I left our mate with Patrick, but at the same time, he’s suffering because of what she had done. And unlike me, he wants to punish her for it, while also making excuses for her. It’s causing me a lot of pain and confusion too, and the only thing I can think of doing right now is staying away from her. “Kane?” Glenn asks. “You okay?” “No. Has Charmaine ever used your bond to get something she wants?” “Oh.” Glenn laughs softly.
Kane's POV: I sit on the edge of my desk, frowning at my phone. I received one notification for a transaction, the salon Mina talked about, but nothing else. “Come in,” I say before either Jackson or Glenn can knock and indicate towards the chairs. “Willow?” I mind link with my mate. “Yes.” “Where are you?” “Hell. I am in hell, Kane. Please get me out of here.” I start laughing, ignoring Glenn and Jackson’s curious stares. “Shopping not your thing?” “Why would someone buy the same skirt in three different colours, and insist on trying each one on…with matching tops…and shoes. And then they tell me this is supposed to be fun.” “Oh Goddess,” I keep laughing. “Buy something, will you? It’s almost winter, and it gets cold here. You’ll need proper winter clothes.” “I’ll get something if I see something I like and want. I’m not spending money just for the hell of it.” “Well, it will make me ha
Kane's POVIt’s almost like the world slows down. The jar tumbles to earth in slow motion, and just before it hits the cobblestone, I fall to one knee. Crouching forward, I put my hands over my head, and as per usual, my magic does its own thing. Somehow, right when the bomb hits, I cast a shield over myself.I can feel the spell batter against my protection, trying to break through, trying to extinguish my magic. Willow’s spell is much more powerful than I anticipated. My shield cracks as the shockwave washes over me, but remarkably it holds. The witches outside will no longer be hidden, and I can’t feel their spell anymore. I mind link with my Gammas. “Kill them all.” I won’t risk them coming back here a few months or years from now, just so we can do this all over again.I rise and look around the courtyard, taking in the faces of the stunned witches. They have been shocked into silence. “You f
After a day in the city, going in and out of every shop Mina took a fancy to, I’m physically and mentally exhausted, but Mina is still full of energy, chattering all the way back to the apartment, and making plans for the evening. “We should go out tonight. Dancing. I haven’t been in ages.” Just the thought makes me tired. “I am sorry, Mina. I can’t. I was up most of the night, and this day was just a little much.” “You didn’t have fun?” Mina asks, her face falling. I glance over my shoulder at Erica who is scowling at me. “I did. I’m just tired. Why don’t you and Patrick go out?” “You’re nothing like Shay. She could party for days on end without a break.” “I’m not Shay,” I say. “Good,” Erica mutters from the backseat. “We’ll stay in then. Do an old-fashioned pyjama party.” I sigh inwardly. I’m exhausted. I felt it when Kane dropped the bomb on the witches – a day ahead of schedule, so I wasn’t prepared– and while he doesn’t know it, he used some of my energy to cast his shield
