I sighed and made my way out of the room and took the stairs two at a time, making it to my room quickly. I swing the door closed behind me and flop onto my bed face first. I stilled as I realize it didn’t click behind me but relax as I hear a nice deep chuckle and the door click shut and lock.
“Relax my little wolf. It’s just me.” I turned my head to the side and watched as Jax walked towards me. His eyes darkened as he climbed over me and lowered himself to hold me, his arms tight around me, his nose buried in my neck. He let out a soft growl as he took in my scent. “You smell like my father. He’s still chasing you I see.”
“He’s always chasing me. He has yet to realize I’ve been with his son for almost a year.” I snickered as I rolled over onto my back under Jax and smiled up at him. My hands playing with the hem of his shirt. He smirked down at me as he sat up, knees on either side of me, as he lifted off his shirt. I moved my hands over his muscled torso, trailing my fingers over the numerous scars and tattoos.
I bit my lip and let out an appreciative growl at the sight of him. I wormed my way out from under him and got onto my knees to face him. Lifting my shirt off and tossing it away. Immediately his hands came up and caressed my bare skin, his nose and lips skimming along the soft skin at my neck, causing me to shiver and let out my breath in a small sigh.
“I can’t wait till there’s no more hiding. I want to be able to be with you without sneaking around.” Jax said with a low growl that reverberated along my chest. “I hate that we have to hide this.”
“We hide this from your father so he doesn’t suspect anything. If he found out what we were planning he’d kill us both.” I reminded him, my hands tracing the textured scars along his back. He sighed and tightened his hold on me, pushing gently till we were lying down on my bed, his arms still tight around me. He snorts and kisses my bare shoulder, the stubble from his jaw tickling my bare skin.
“Please. I’m the forgotten son. He doesn’t pay me any attention.” he muttered, his hands holding me close to him. I smile softly at him and lift my hands to his face, my fingers tracing over his soft lips.
“He may not pay any attention to you but he pays too much attention to me. We’re just lucky he at least respects the privacy of my bedroom.”
“I know. I just don’t like treating you like a dirty little secret. You’re so much more than that.”
“I know how you feel about me, Jax. I don’t feel as if you are treating me like a dirty little secret. We have a good plan and we need to stick to it if it’s going to work.” I remind him softly, his nearly black eyes gazing at me warmly.
“Of course Kara. I’m sticking to the plan. In a week or so you’ll be 18 and can finally claim your rightful title as Alpha and reclaim your pack and pack lands from my father and my eldest brother. I’m with you every step of the way.” he confirms as he moves my hair away from my face. I tilt my chin up and catch his lips in a soft kiss, my leg moving to sling over his hip as we pull our bodies flush together.
“I wish you were my fated mate or even my second chance mate. But you’re already 23 so we would know if that was the case.”
“I may not be your fated mate Kara but you know I’m more than willing to form a mate bond with you. I just won’t deny you the chance to find your fated mate first.” I smile at him softly and give him another kiss.
“I’m thankful every day that you are nothing like the rest of your family Jax.” he grins cheekily at me and nips my bottom lip.
“I know. I'm amazing.” I laugh and nip him back. Curling into his arms as I yawn softly. He chuckles and rubs my back. “Sleep my little wolf. I will wake you in time for dinner.” I close my eyes and hum softly, already succumbing to the pull of sleep as Jax pulls my blanket over us and holds me close. I drift off to sleep as he rubs my back in soothing circles.
At first, I wasn’t sure what was going on. I felt like I was asleep yet my mind was aware and I was no longer in my room. I stood in the dark, the sounds of the forest all around me. A gentle breeze through the leaves, loud crickets, frogs croaking from the pond, an owl hooting before it took flight to catch its evening meal. The moon shone down and bathed everything in a wash of ethereal silver. It was beautiful and not where I fell asleep.
I turned around in a circle, a silky soft material brushing against my thighs. Looking down I saw a white silk slip covering my body, clinging to my curves and showing off my ample cleavage more than I normally would. I snorted and ran my hand across the material as I turned in a circle and gazed at my surroundings. It was beautiful and I felt safe. I also knew these were woods I had never been in before. They felt older, wild, and so full of magic I could feel it thrumming against my skin.
A noise in the trees caused me to still and then turn slowly, gasping as I saw a large, smokey silver and grey wolf step out of the trees, his bright grey eyes gazing right at me and a shiver went through me at the strength and power in that look. I knew by the smell he was another werewolf, but no one I had ever met before. He stepped slowly towards me and stopped when he was in front of me, lowering his head till we were at eye level. He was the largest wolf I had ever seen, and I could feel my wolf stir inside of me, I could feel her wanting to come forward.
I stared into his eyes and I felt a pull unlike any other, a pull I had only heard described by those who had found their fated mate. It was an incredible feeling and I could feel the need course through me to touch him, to accept the bond. I sighed softly and lifted my hand slowly, my eyes locked with his the entire time, and gently ran my fingers through his fur along his neck. My lips lifted into a smile as I heard a rumble of happiness vibrate through his chest. He was beautiful, the only problem was he was a stranger and I had no idea where I could even begin to find him. Just as he stepped and started to shift back into a man, the light of the moon was blocked by dark, almost black clouds and the clearing was plunged into darkness, the dream shattering with a cry from both of us before I was pulled back into a dreamless sleep.
I was pulled from sleep, the dream slipping away fast the more coherent I became, by the sensation of gentle kisses being placed on my bare shoulder blade and warm calloused hands rubbing along my back and sides. I smile and hum in content, burying my face more in my comfy pillow. A warm chuckle sounded before one of his hands patted my butt. “Time to get up little wolf. Supper is soon and I have to sneak out of your room and you have to take a shower to get rid of my scent clinging to your skin.” Jas said softly as he stood from the bed and tugged on my ankle gently. I grumbled under my breath and stood up, a scowl on my face as I stretched. Immediately after, Jax pulled me into a rough, searing kiss, one hand encompassing my neck, slight pressure on my throat while his other hand fisted in my hair, crushing me to him. I panted, breathless, my lips red and s
I sat there eating my food as Ezra, Echo and Torrance chattered animatedly about the summit with everyone else at our table, and let my eyes wander out across the dining hall and all the gathered pack members. I saw Jax sitting at a table close to the head table with a group of his friends, a pretty she-wolf in his lap, his arm around her waist. I sighed softly, a sense of distaste in my mouth as I saw him kiss her neck, my lip curling slightly as I heard her giggle from his attention. I hated this part of our agreement, keeping our relationship a complete secret and having other partners in the open. As the Alpha’s sob, next in line for the position, he had every she-wolf vying for his attention. I on the other hand don’t have an endless parade of men. “Earth to Kara. You in there?” Echo asked with a rumble-like laugh, tapping me on the forehead with t
“Still fine with going to the bar and playing pool? The bar is in human territory so that makes it a neutral zone. A lot of other shifters and such flock to it.” Echo explained as he drove. I nodded with an enthusiastic smile. “Yeah, I’m looking forward to it. You and Ezra rave about this place so I want to see it for myself. Besides, you promised to teach me to play pool.” “Oh, I’m definitely going to teach you to play, get all close like.” He wiggled his eyebrows playfully, a low growl rumbling in his chest. I blushed softly at the suggestion his growl meant and bit my lip. “Well, I do like it when you get all close.” I responded with a low growl of my own, my hand rubbing his thigh. His chest rumbled with a deeper appreciative growl, his thigh gripping my thigh firmly. Not enough to hurt but enough to get his
Dixon and Ethan smiled and greeted Echo like the brother in arms he was, giving me a nod of acknowledgment in greeting as they waved down Norik and engaged Echo in conversation about the new training and patrol schedule the warriors had to follow. I sat in my chair and sipped my water, listening with a smile as Silas moved to a pretty girl a seat or two over from me and started flirting with her. I glanced over my shoulder at Jax as I felt him stand close to me, his arm brushing against my back. His dark eyes were on my face, looking me over with a soft frown.“Young Alpha. Did you need me to move?” I asked evenly, treating him with the respect any pack member would who isn’t close to him. He frowned harder and shook his head at me, taking a step closer and leaning down to talk to me.“What are you doing here Kara?”
As the night progressed the bar became more packed, the mix of scents becoming too overwhelming it left you almost nose blind. When karaoke started there were cheers for those that were great, and boos and jeers for those that weren’t. Overall though the bar was thrumming with energy and people were happy and just letting loose. At some point, an impromptu dance area formed and people packed together, dancing and thrumming on the energy that filled the bar. Torrance pulled me with her and forced our way into the mass of moving people, dancing and pulsing with all the other bodies. The accumulated shifter energy calling our wolves close to the surface, adding to the energy that pulled through everyone, the music secondary as all shifters fed off the energy, our animals close. With the number of different types of shifters, the energy was a tingling pulse across our skin, marking us out to our kind. If the vampire was telling the truth, then the scouts are still alive, still loyal to Ravenfield and that Orso didn’t kill everyone in my pack, instead he got his son to force them into obedience and link with a new Alpha. If they are still alive and I claim my birthright, I can sever their link to Orso’s son and relink them with me. As confused and overwhelmed as I was with all this new information, I was hopeful. No longer was it just me and Jax plotting. Now we had warriors and a vampire on our side. Now more than ever my chances for success are higher.“I’m sorry babe. I know that can’t be easy. Did you want to head back? It’s almost closing time anyway.” I looked at Echo in surprise before looking at the black behind the bar that said it was 1:45. I did not realize so much time had passed. Now that I was aware of it, I could feel the fatigue in my muscle
“That's a big mall.” I looked up at the building as we walked up to the doors, the number of people surprising as we made our way in. I stopped at the threshold to gain my bearings and looked around, surprised with the people, the stores, the number of smells. I felt so cut off from things having been kept on isolated pack grounds for the last almost 8 years. I used to go out often with my parents and friends, attend school and just generally have a life. When I was brought to Orso’s pack all of that was taken away for the first while. Until Torrance saw me and it was like an instant connection. She was already close friends with Ezra and Echo and they accepted me without a problem. The 3 of them made life in the Richmond pack bearable, well them and Jax.“Come on, let's get food first. I’m starving and I know you must be downright ravenous after training.” she said as s
Over the next few days, the entire pack was in a buzz, a frenzy as our training was doubled and people were appointed to be in charge while some of the pack was gone to the Alpha Summit. True to his word Orso had put the list up the night after his announcement. Out of curiosity I looked and was surprised to find my name on it. I guess what Torrance said was true, no matter how much I didn’t want it to be. I was also happy that Echo and Ezra were also chosen to attend. My hope for them was to find their fated mates, even if that meant my relationship with Echo would be over.Once the names were picked, it was like the entire pack attitude shifted and training was harder, more intense and unfortunately longer. Most days I fell into bed exhausted at the end of the night and was out the moment my head met the pillow. It also meant I had not had any more dreams about the strange wolf. It was a litt
