He scoffed and dug into his food without giving me a response. This action affirmed my suspicion.

“Alpha, is there something you are not telling me?” I clearly asked

Evans hit his cutleries on the steel tray as if angered by my question

“You should know that there are lots of eyes on you now Carmilla.” He explained. “And you should know it is best to lie low.”

I struggled to buy his explanation, but a part of me actually believed him.

After the wholesome meal, we wiped our mouths and hands and called on Katrina to pack up, informing her of our departure.

Katrina acted nonchalant that we were going to the archive, while I felt like I had won a lottery because I would have Evans to myself all day.

“I shall stop at my father’s. Rest up. We would leave before the noon.” He instructed. Fair enough!

I patiently watched him take his leave, grateful that I had Katrina to keep me company, although we barely exchanged words except it was necessary.
