I woke up to a much colder chill in the air than usual. Was it because autumn was coming to an end? I tossed the blanket aside, sat on the edge of the bed, and looked toward the slightly open glass door of the balcony.

Curious, I tiptoed over to the door and heard soft sobbing. Was someone crying?

When I peeked out onto the balcony, I couldn't believe my eyes. Shirley was sitting on a chair, crying. She flinched in surprise when she saw me.
