"Bernice!"

A gentle grip on my shoulder woke me up. I gasped when I saw Genesis kneeling in front of me, worry etched on his face.

"Genesis? What are you doing here?"

Crap! I'd been busted!

"I was looking for you and Aggy," he said, glancing behind him. "Jasher's with me. So is Zach."

Double damn!

"Why are you looking for me? What for? Aggy and I were leaving!" I snapped, annoyed.

"Hey, calm down. Let's just talk this out, okay?" Genesis glanced around. "Where's Aggy?"

I suddenly realized that Aggy was gone. It was already morning. A few people were arriving at the bus stop.

"Aggy?" I stood up in a panic.

Jasher and Zach approached, but I immediately looked away. Suddenly, Zach grabbed my hand and looked furious.

"What were you thinking? Why would you do something this reckless?" he half-yelled.

I yanked my hand away and pushed him back. "Get away from me! I hate you!"

Zach froze, his face pal

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   112. ZACH: Snow Princess, Burning Heart

I took a deep breath in front of the entrance to the hall, waiting for Paige.Where was she? I had already agreed to be her date for tonight's event.Judging by her usual personality, I didn't think Paige was the type of girl who liked to dress up, but maybe that was a different story when it came to parties. An itch started forming on my shoulder from the costume Genesis had gotten me: It was a full knight's armor, complete with a sword and cape. I didn't even get a chance to say no.What made it worse was that it made an annoying "shhk-shhk" sound every time I moved, drawing attention. Then, I saw four girls rushing toward the hall. The sight of one of them made my heart stop:Bernice. She was wearing a long, silvery-white gown. She looked like a snow princess. Her hair was down and flowing beautifully, and I couldn't take my eyes off her."Come on, let's go in. The event's starting," Paige said as she walked up to me.When I reached for her hand, she suddenly grabbed Bernice's and

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   111. ZACH: How Do I Make Her See?

"Genesis, how is Bernice doing?" I asked when Genesis returned to the room."She's fine."He joined Dwight and Troy, and they began whispering among themselves, clearly talking about today's incident. As a result, the match was canceled. Shirley had to return to Evercrest this afternoon and wait for her punishment.Tomorrow was supposed to be our final night here, a celebration of our victory, but I wasn't so sure it would be fun anymore. How could anyone enjoy a party after something like this? Everything felt so tainted.I tried to calm the anxiety and heavy guilt gnawing at my chest. I couldn't even show my face to Bernice. She must hate me now. There was so much I wanted to explain to her, especially about giving those flowers to Violet. I didn't do it to make Bernice jealous or to even the score with Axel.Violet asked me, though. She never said it outright, but she hinted that it would be nice to receive flowers from the jousting tournament champion. This year is Violet's last c

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   110. I'm the Reason She's Crying

Someone was carrying me. I didn't know who it was, but he was moving fast. The next thing I knew, I was lying on a bed. I could hear shouting all around me. My vision was completely blurred, and everything was dark when I tried to open my eyes.Panic washed over me. What's happening to me? Help! But no sound came out.I heard a growl. Loud and clear. My eyes searched for the source. I saw a pair of yellow, glowing eyes.At first, they were just a tiny spark. Then they grew larger. Closer. Who is that?!'Please, don't hurt me…' I squeaked.'Oh, no, child. I won't let anyone hurt you.'I saw the shadow of a giant black wolf. It looked like darkness itself. I tried to scream, but again, no sound came out. Then, the wolf lunged toward me."Mom!" I finally screamed. This time, I could see everything clearly: the white ceiling lined with gold trim, A chandelier."Thank goodness she made it just in time," someone

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   109. Don't Hate Me for His Choice

I woke up to a much colder chill in the air than usual. Was it because autumn was coming to an end? I tossed the blanket aside, sat on the edge of the bed, and looked toward the slightly open glass door of the balcony.Curious, I tiptoed over to the door and heard soft sobbing. Was someone crying? When I peeked out onto the balcony, I couldn't believe my eyes. Shirley was sitting on a chair, crying. She flinched in surprise when she saw me."What do you want?" she hissed."Sorry. I didn't mean to bother you." I turned to leave, but then heard her scoff."Happy now? Did you get your revenge? Just because I tore your clothes that day, you went this far just to destroy me? Even going after Jasher!"I fell silent, debating whether to speak or keep quiet. But I hesitated because I was afraid Shirley wouldn't understand. Still, my urge to explain everything was stronger.I was tired of constantly fighting.I stepped out onto the balc

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   108. His Victory, My Defeat

The atmosphere at the jousting field for the final match was electric, but I couldn't have been in a worse mood. I was drowning in pain that felt like it was binding my heart, and seeing Jasher only made me more upset. Looking at Zach? That made it worse. Then came the guilt because I had been ignoring Genesis.Down in the arena, Zach and Axel were getting ready. The crowd buzzed with excitement, but I only felt pressure tightening around me."Physically, Axel's way stronger," I heard Paige say as she discussed the final match with Aggy and Piper."Yeah, but Zach's got brains. You can't deny it—he's got amazing agility," Piper argued.Aggy giggled. "Aggy-lity. Like me—quick and sweet."I smiled at her joke, just a little. Suddenly, I felt a finger press softly into my cheek from the side. I turned my head, and there was Genesis."You look tired," he said gently, his voice laced with concern.I quickly shook my head.

  • Alpha's Bite: From Victim to Vengeance   107. JASHER: The Cost of One Flower

My steps felt heavy as I walked to my room. I stopped in front of the door. When I entered, I saw Genesis lounging on the couch and snacking.I didn't know where Dwight and Thor were, but honestly, I was glad they weren't there. That meant fewer judgmental stares, like the one Genesis was giving me.I walked over to my bed and began removing the ridiculous armor."You should've held yourself back," Genesis said, breaking the silence with a piece of advice.Great."I don't want to talk about it," I replied coldly."Jasher, have you ever considered that this was all a tactic? Axel and his team might be trying to eliminate you, take you out of the competition. Like it or not, you're one of the best jousters."I heard Genesis munching on something."And..." He coughed a bit. "...you totally fell into their trap. Think about it. Do you really believe Bernice would be swayed by a single flower? If you do, then you're basically
