Chapter 29
“Whatever you’re thinking, you might as well do it.”
Bryan walked in and opened up the refrigerator. He poured some of the iced tea I made the other day into a glass.
“You’ve been staring at the phone for the past ten minutes. Just do it.”
I nodded. It had been three months since the Gathering. Since I had spoken with my siblings. It had been gnawing at me a little that I hadn’t called to check in. To see if Ty found his mate. To see if Maddie had found hers. I had thought about them a few times but so much happened it was forced to the back of my mind. I also didn’t know if I was ready for it.
I picked up the phone and dialed Ty’s cell number.
‘Hello?’
I cleared my throat. “Hey Ty.”
‘Holy shit, Auri? Is that you?’
“Yeah. I just wanted to…check in.”
It was nice to hear his voice. Bryan gave me a thumbs up as he sat at the kitchen bar with me.

I pulled away from Logan and leaned against the wall in front of him. My father and Melissa walked in and I could feel the tension from the five of us. ***Auri’s POV*** Over the next few months, we dealt with the increasing rogue attacks. None of them were as big as the one the day of Ty’s baby shower, but they were still exhausting. Logan wouldn’t let me out though to help in the field. Instead, I took up my place at his desk in taking care of all the pack and business paperwork. I had become well versed in everything that had to do with his businesses. He trusted me now to just take care of it if I felt comfortable doing so. But as the months went on, I felt increasing anxious about Morgan. The High Council was not fun. They were a collection of overseers, or they liked to think of themselves as protectors of the peace between supernatural beings and even humans. They liked to make decisions, thinking that they were making them on behalf of their entire race. But corruption was deep and you had beings who were over a thousand years old.
