I limped toward the forest, putting most of my weight on my right foot. Every movement sent painful throbs through my injured ankle.
The distance was not far, but right now, it felt endless.
My vision blurred with tears. I didn’t want to cry, but my body couldn't help it.
I was not a warrior who was trained to bear pain. I was just a healer, and healers were already sensitive to their pain and the pain of others.
I didn’t like the pain at all. It always made me feverish.
My knees buckled just as I reached the treeline. I almost fell but caught myself at the last second by grabbing a nearby tree trunk.
The rough bark scraped against my palms. I pressed my forehead against it and panted.
The forest spun around me. For a moment, I wondered if I should just stay here for a moment, just sit down and gather some energy.
But then Lucien's face flashed through my mind.
I had always expected others to betray me at some point in life, but Lucien’s betrayal had made me homeless. Even if I escaped, I had nowhere to go.
But…I still wanted to live. There was something I wanted to do, a promise I needed to fulfill before I died.
That’s why…I wouldn’t stop.
My eyes snapped open. I pushed away from the tree and kept moving. Branches tore my dress, and twigs cracked beneath my feet. I didn’t know how long I walked. I just knew the forest was endless, and the night was beginning to fall.
The deeper I went into the woods, the darker everything became. The pain in my ankle worsened. The swelling had already started.
Every time my foot accidentally touched the ground fully, stars errupted in my head, almost pushing me to the brink of fainting.
My breathing became uneven, and sweat trickled down my forehead despite the cool air around me.
Eventually, I reached a small clearing deep in the woods. The moment I stepped into it, my strength finally gave out. My other leg wobbled, and both knees hit the ground.
I gasped as agony made my head spin. I wiped my eyes with the back of my hand and looked toward the dark trees ahead.
They looked endless, too. So…maybe I should stop and rest now. Just for a moment, at least.
I released a shaky breath and leaned my head back against the tree trunk behind me.
I told myself I was staying here just for a minute. But my consciousness began to waver, and the energy left my body.
My unfocused gaze rested on the escape that lay on the other side of those woods. I imagined running to the city and blending among humans, finding a new identity, and surviving.
It all looked so easy inside my head. I chuckled to myself.
Slowly, my hazy vision landed on my left foot. It was double in size now, along with my ankle that looked like a steamed, big potato.
Wonderful. Just great!
What was I supposed to do now?
In this condition, I couldn't run anymore, and I could barely walk when my vision kept going black in between.
For the first time since escaping, panic really set in my heart, making me tremble all over.
What if I died out here from infection or something?
What if an animal came and ate me?
I couldn’t help but scrunch my nose. A wolf born gets eaten by another animal. What a joke!
Suddenly, a twig snapped in the distance. Fear crept up my spine, turning me cold. Just when I thought about a wild animal, it seemed Moon Goddess really sent me one.
Cautiously, I scanned the trees behind me. But I couldn’t see any movement in the dark, and no more sounds were coming from anywhere.
Just when I opened my mouth to sigh, another twig snapped. This time, it was closer than before.
My heart stopped inside my chest. Slowly, I pushed myself upright using the tree behind me.
Pain shot through my ankle immediately. I bit down on my lip and scanned the woods once more.
“ I…I am not food. ” I mumbled, hoping the animal would just go away.
But there were no more sounds again. This silence…it felt so wrong, so heavy.
I felt the heat of someone or something’s gaze fixed on me. I was being watched—I could sense it deep in my bones.
Blood rushed to my head as I pushed myself off the tree. I had to run, and if I couldn’t…then I had to crawl and drag myself.
I was not dying here!
“ Please just go away… ” I squealed as I looked around the woods one last time.
But then…my body froze in its spot. A familiar scent spread in the air around me—Cold rain, storm clouds, and burned wood.
My heart sank to the pit of my stomach.
ELARAOh shit! No, no, no.Not him again.I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it when I noticed a shadow emerge in the distance. The shadow was tall and broad and so familiar. My breath hitched in my throat. Slowly, he began walking closer as if he were stalking prey. And when he stepped out into the clearing, my heart stopped beating. My Goddess! The man, the Alpha, looked absolutely furious. His dark hair was slightly disheveled as if he had been moving fast. His chest rose and fell with controlled breaths. But it was his eyes shining under the moonlight that made me shudder.Gold—pure, shining gold. A stark contrast to the silver of the moon. This was not the color of his human’s eyes, so it meant his wolf was threatening to rise to the surface. For a moment, silence reigned between us. I thought about turning and making a run for it, but who was I kidding? He would snap me in half before I even took a step forward.Slowly, his dark gaze scanned me from head to toe—The t

ELARA“ You have no scent… ” His scorching gaze dropped to my rapidly beating chest. “ What are you really? ”I almost thought he would figure out something about me. Several answers instantly ran through my head, but not even one of them seemed to be perfect for this situation.“ I… ” I swallowed, my throat going dry. “ I am— ”Suddenly, Alpha Alaric grabbed my right shoulder. A gasp escaped my mouth as a shot of electric current ran down the length of my body.My gaze dropped to his hand, but before I could figure out what this was, he pushed me aside and opened the door.“ Stay here. I have something to deal with. ” He said in a hurry and moved out of the door.I turned around, watching his bare back and his fast pace as he rounded the corner and disappeared from my sight altogether.Pressing a hand to my chest, I took a few deep breaths. The tension in my shoulders eased a little.Where did he go in a hurry? I wondered, but that was not the important thing right now.The more impo
ELARAI was going with the flow, just letting this man drag me to his Alpha. As we neared the big mahogany double doors, my feet suddenly came to a slow halt.A strange scent hit me, taking over my mind, and making me sniff the air as if I was desperately trying to know where this scent was coming from.It was a dangerous presence. Cold air, storm rain, burned wood, and something dangerously clean underneath it all.My skin prickled. The man who was dragging me along opened the doors in front of us.I kept my gaze cast low as he pushed me inside and then closed the door. He was gone without even saying a word more.Slowly, I looked up and saw the bare back of a man facing me. My cheeks flushed as I tried to avert my gaze, but found myself interested in the scars that ran down his sides.Suddenly, the man turned around to face me. I recognized his dark grey eyes, his plump lips, and his straight nose. I couldn’t help but eye his silky, thick black hair and the sheer height and frame of
ELARAMy head was pounding with a terrible headache. I groaned under my breath and pushed myself upright. The floor underneath me was so hard that it felt like the stones might dig into my flesh any moment.Still groaning in pain, I blinked open my eyes. It didn’t take much time to adjust my vision because everything around me was already drowning in darkness.I released a slow breath and shook my head. After another wince, I finally focused in the darkness to see where I was.I remembered saving that Alpha and then getting attacked in the forest.Goosebumps rose on my skin. I straightened my back and looked around. This hard floor, the dark room, the small space—Everything pointed towards one conclusion. I was in a dungeon.Holy Shit!Who took me? Did Lucien find out that I knew everything now? Did he cage me in here?My hands began shaking. I grabbed one with the other and slowly sucked in a long breath. This was not the time to panic.“ You are right. This is not the time to panic,
ALARICPain was the first thing I felt.It crawled through my body slowly, like something alive—digging into my bones, wrapping around my ribs, pressing against my skull. Every breath burned. Every heartbeat felt wrong. But it was not unbearable. It didn’t feel like I was dying. Then, I felt the surface beneath me. It was soft—so soft—just like my bed.My eyes snapped open. The ceiling above me was familiar. It had the ancient carvings of my Pack symbols.I was in my room, and I was alive. That realization hit harder than the pain.My jaw clenched as memories rushed back. Stephanie, that good-for-nothing bitch cheated on me.I should have known that girls like her can’t keep their legs closed to any man. But to think that she ran straight to that Lucien.I couldn’t suppress the scoff that left my lips. Of course, she was chasing the cure to the curse and knew she could only break free of it after she became a part of Lucien’s Pack.Because, for some reason, only Lucien and his Pack me
