Julian’s POV

Darkness swallowed me as I walked away from their camp. Every step took me further from Penelope’s warmth and deeper into the cold reality of what I’d become.

The night air cleared my head, washing away the emotional fog that had clouded my thinking. My grief transformed into something sharper.

I leaned against a thick oak tree and forced myself to think logically. Direct confrontation with the Rogue King would be suicide. His power far exceeded mine, backed by hundreds of loyal fighters and years of planning.

A frontal attack would accomplish nothing except my own death.

Subtlety had to be my weapon now. Sabotage from within. Feed him false information while gathering real intelligence to pass to Penelope. Slowly undermine his operations until the perfect moment for betrayal presented itself.

But that plan required continued access to his inner circle.

It meant playing the loyal lieutenant while knowing the truth about my father’s death.

It meant looking the Rogue King in

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 267: Power Play

Penelope’s POVCouncil meeting tensions escalated as territorial disputes arose over defense resource allocation. Alpha Mark slammed his fist on the polished table while Hadrian argued about ammunition shortages.I noticed Dominic deliberately avoiding eye contact across the room while Mark distributed patrol schedules with obvious favoritism toward his own territories. Every time our gazes might have met, he found reasons to examine documents or engage other representatives in conversation. The avoidance stung more than I cared to admit. After the meeting concluded, I retreated to my private office in the Council building, locking the door behind me.Minutes later, a knock interrupted my attempt to review territorial maps. I opened the door expecting Ryan with updates, but found Dominic instead.“Urgent security matters,” he said formally. “May I come in?”Against my better judgment, I stepped aside. He entered and closed the door, his large frame making my office feel impossibly smal

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 266: Caught Red-Handed

Penelope’s POVThe Iron Mountain packhouse lay silent as I returned well past midnight, every window dark except the security lights. The strategy session had run late, followed by an encounter with Dominic that left me physically exhausted but mentally wired.I climbed the stairs quietly, checking on Debbie first. She slept peacefully in her room, red curls spread across her pillow, clutching the stuffed wolf Dominic had given her months ago.My private quarters felt like sanctuary after hours of forced professionalism.I kicked off my boots and pulled tactical reports from my briefcase, determined to focus on work instead of the memories burning through my system. But concentration proved impossible.Every line of text blurred as my mind replayed Dominic’s hands on my body, the way we’d moved together in the armory. The physical relationship we’d developed left me conflicted—my body craved him while my mind warned against trusting him again.I abandoned the reports and retreated to m

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 265: Silver and Steel

Dominic’s POVThree days of avoiding each other ended when I found Penelope alone in the armory, conducting inventory on our expanding weapons cache. She knelt among cases of silver blades, checking each one against supply lists. The distance we’d maintained since the strategy room felt like mockery after what had happened between us. Every Council meeting, every tactical discussion, every moment of forced cooperation reminded me of her taste, her scent, the desperate way she’d responded to my touch.“Working late again,” I said from the doorway. She looked up briefly, then returned to her inventory. “Someone has to maintain accurate counts. These weapons could mean the difference between victory and defeat.”“Always the dedicated commander.”“Always the job that needs doing.”I stepped inside and closed the door behind me. The armory felt smaller with both of us in it, walls lined with enough silver to kill a hundred mutated wolves. When Penelope reached for a heavy case on the upper

Kelsey’s POVI walked through Darkwood packhouse corridors. Three months of house arrest had transformed my life into a prison of luxury—beautiful rooms, excellent food, and constant surveillance disguised as protection.Guards nodded respectfully as I passed, but their eyes tracked my every movement. No privacy, no freedom, no life beyond these walls that had once felt like home. The only joy in my isolated existence came from brief permitted visits with Alexander. I climbed the stairs to the nursery, my heart lightening for the first time all day.“Hello, my beautiful boy,” I whispered, lifting him from his crib.Alexander smiled up at me, his tiny fingers grasping at my hair. For these precious moments, nothing else mattered—not my crimes, not my punishment, not the future I’d destroyed through jealousy and lies.“Mama loves you,” I murmured against his soft cheek. “Whatever happens, remember that mama loves you more than anything.”The nursery door opened behind me. I turned, expec

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 263: Against Better Judgment

Penelope’s POVOur strategy session erupted into chaos the moment I placed defensive markers on the eastern border. Dominic slammed his palm against the table, scattering pins across the detailed map.“That’s completely wrong,” he declared, his voice cutting through conversations around us. “You’re leaving the southern approach completely exposed.”“The southern approach has natural barriers,” I replied coldly, replacing the scattered markers exactly where I’d positioned them before. “My fighters can hold those positions with minimal support.”“Your fighters aren’t invincible, despite what you seem to believe.”My eyes narrowed at his dismissive tone. “My fighters have won every engagement they’ve been assigned to.”“Because I’ve been providing backup!” Dominic stepped closer to the map, his finger stabbing at positions I’d marked. “Every time you’ve deployed them, my units have been covering vulnerabilities you refuse to acknowledge.”“That’s not—”“It is exactly what’s happened,” he

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 262: Under Fire

Dominic’s POVThree days had passed since the strategy room confrontation and I still couldn’t get Penelope’s words out of my head. The council chamber filled with territorial representatives as I entered with reports about breakthrough mutation countermeasures my scientists had developed. Conversations stopped when Penelope walked through the massive oak doors. Her commanding presence drew every eye in the room despite the politics and power plays that usually dominated these meetings. She wore formal military dress that emphasized her authority while highlighting curves I remembered too well. The Elder called the session to order, but I barely heard his opening remarks. My attention remained fixed on Penelope as she took her position at the table, her red hair flowing.“Alpha Dominic will present his research findings,” the Elder announced.I stood, pulling out documents that represented months of scientific work. “My team has identified specific weaknesses in the mutation process th
