CHAPTER 26 - BROKEN TRUST

LEXI’S POV

“....is he your mother’s boyfriend?” Manny asked, his voice sounding irritated.

Was he actually jealous? I wondered.

I didn’t wait to find out, I pushed the door open before Dexter could say more.

“Hey kids,” I smiled at them, specifically avoiding Manny’s eyes.

“Mommy!” Dexter exclaimed, seeming happy to see me. “I was just telling Daddy and Wayne about uncle Jax.”

“Well it is late now, you boys need to rest for tomorrow,” I said, walking closer to Manny and pulling Dexter from his arms.

“I don’t think it is that late,” Manny insisted, grabbing Dexter’s arm. “I want to hear more about Dexter’s pack and this uncle Jax.”

I smiled thinly, removing Manny’s hand from Dexter’s. “It is a long story and the boys need to rest.”

“I see,” Manny replied coldly, standing up “I’ll let the boys rest then.”

“Good night boys.”

“Good night dad,” they replied happily as Manny walked out of the room.

After I put the boys to bed, I stepped out of the room, only to fin

THE UNRAVELINGMANNY’S POVMy mother turned to me with an apologetic look. I stared at her, feeling my heart ache with the pain of betrayal. How could she do this? How could she lie to me like this all this time? She hadn’t just lied to me, she had lied to my father. I closed my eyes remembering when my father was still alive, how he had treated her well, never knowing that she had another son that she abandoned elsewhere. The elders murmured between themselves, throwing distasteful glances at my mother. Even Lexi shook her head in disappointment. The only person that remained unmoved was Jax. His presence had caused all this trouble and all he could do was lean back and watch my mother with a cold expression? I was sick of this.Sick of their whispers and looks. Sick of the fact that by morning, the news of my mother’s rogue son would have spread throughout the pack.To everyone else, it was just news, but to me, it was my life and my life had been a lie.Suddenly, I could not s

BROKEN TRUSTMANNY’S POVLater that evening, Jax was brought before the Red Shadow Elder council. His hands were tied behind him as he was dragged in by the guards and then dropped in front of us.“I can’t believe this,” one of the elders, Elder Darius commented, looking at Jax in disgust. “I can’t believe that a rogue actually has the audacity to enter our pack.”Beside me, Lexi went still, looking down at Jax with empathy in her eyes, like she wanted to comfort him and it was pissing me off. I had only allowed her into this meeting because she was part of the issues that I wanted to address and now here she was, looking at Jax like she would rather be by his side than mine.“I am not surprised by this Rogue’s audacity, he must have come to this pack without considering the consequences or thinking that we are not strong enough to make him an example,” Another Elder added.“Yes,” Elder Darius continued, glaring at Lexi. “I agree, everything started when that woman came back into the

THE BROTHER I NEVER KNEWMANNY'S POVThe rogue knelt before me, with his head raised. He looked arrogant despite the fact he was supposed to be cowering in front of me.Dexter ran to him, hugging him happily and I saw Lexi’s eyes widen in panic as she looked at him.She knew him, I realized. He was Jax, the man that Lexi had lived with when she was still in Rogue Haven and now he was in my packhouse. My fists clenched in anger as I watched him, feeling an ugly heat curl in chest. I wanted to shove him into the dungeons immediately, to have him whipped for daring to show his face in front of me. But I couldn’t allow my emotions to get the better of me, even though I detested him. Even if I hated the thought of Lexi raising my son by his side, I was still the Alpha of this pack and so I had to be fair, even if I hated it.“Jax?” Lexi panicked as Dexter returned to her side. “What are you doing here?” I turned to her with a cold smile. “So this is the famous Jax,” I remarked, stepping

REUNION OF THORNSJAX’S POVThe guards shoved me, trying to push me ahead but I didn’t move. My eyes stayed on my mother’s face.I stared at her, feeling the emotions I had buried for twenty years now rise to the surface.I hated that she looked the same, the only difference was that her hair was no longer black and there were lines of age on her face.I hated that no matter how long it had been I had never been able to forget her, no matter how much I wanted to. It was exactly twenty years ago when she had led me out of the pack, sneaking past the borders like I was a secret to be hidden and then she had turned to me and asked me to leave the pack.“I no longer want you as a son,” she said, her cold eyes burning into my face now like they did back then. “Leave this pack and make sure that you never return,” she warned me.“What do you mean mum?” I had asked with an innocent smile on my eight year old face. “Are you angry at me?” “I want you to leave this place and never come back,

A SHOCKING VISITORLEXI'S POV I woke up early that morning with my mind racing.I had allowed myself to get too comfortable in this pack and now Manny and Lexi were planning to kick me out again.Like I will ever allow him to leave me without my sons, I scoffed.I stepped out of my room silently, suddenly feeling the need to check up on the boys.As I walked down the hallway, a room opened and the last person I wanted to see stepped out.“What are you doing sneaking around so early?” Her eyes narrowed as soon as she saw me.“I am not sneaking around and even if I was, it is none of your business,” I retorted, walking past her.Clara hissed and I stopped in my tracks suddenly remembering how she had incited Manny against me yesterday.“You know what?” I asked, spinning back to face her.“I have had enough of your bullshit in this pack,” I said, pointing at Clara's stunned face. “I heard what you were telling Manny yesterday and don't you ever try such a thing again!”Clara's brows fur

THE RETURN OF THE ROGUEJAX'S POVThe moon was shining brightly above Rogue Haven, casting a silver light through the open window of my bedroom. It was a truly beautiful night and all I could think about was how Lexi wasn't here to share the view with me.The time was probably past midnight by now and yet I hadn't slept. I hadn't been able to fall asleep since the day she left.I stood by the window with my arms folded against my chest as I stared into the night, glancing at the forest past Rogue Haven. Was she alright where she was?Or was she in danger? The Lexi I knew would have found a way to reach me by now if everything was okay, so what was wrong? Was her former mate making things difficult for her?I could still remember the look in her eyes the day she left. I will come back to you, Jax, no matter what, she had promised and now, her words haunted me.I wanted to respect her wishes and I wanted to trust that she was strong enough to come back to me, but anytime I received a let
