A furious snarl tore from Jackson's throat when he woke to discover his mate was gone and the money in his wallet was missing. No, this was not possible! It can't be possible! He can't get his mate, and he only loses her quickly.
His beta and second in command, Gideon, must have sensed his distress through the link between them because he rushed into the room the next second with his weapons raised, thinking his alpha was in trouble. But all they met was the sight of his alpha pacing across the room, enraged.
As soon as he entered, Alpha Jackson's head whipped in Gideon's direction, and he stormed over to him, demanding, “Where is she? Where did she go?”
“Who is she? Who are you talking about, alpha?”
“The female that I was with last night! My mate! Did you see my mate?!”
“Your mate?!” Gideon's eyes widen in shock, unable to believe what he just heard.
“Stop repeating after me like a fool, Carl, and give me answers!” Alpha King retorted, frustrated.
Gideon shook his head, saying, “I didn't see her. I thought she was with you.”
“Well, obviously, She isn't here. You let her slip right through your fingers. Now find her!”
“Yes, alpha!” Gideon bows and wants to leave, only for Alpha Jackson to add, “Get me all the information you can find on Allusion. I want to know who she is and the pack she belongs to. I want to know everything that you can find on her.”
An hour later, Alpha Jackson holds a massive file in front of him, containing all the vital information Carl could have gotten on Allusion quickly.
“Hear me, Carl, message the midnight pack and tell them I'll visit.”
“As you wish, alpha.” Gideon bows his head and executes his orders.
Meanwhile, at the midnight pack, Alpha Jackson was in a difficult position, confused and panicked upon hearing of the alpha king's sudden visit. Hosting the alpha king was a huge privilege, and other packs would kill just to be in his position. Hosting the alpha king in their pack would come with financial support, not to mention boosting their relationship.
Hence, Alpha Jackson was more than eager to get things in order and immediately ordered his pack members to dress impeccably and line up at the entrance to welcome the esteemed Alpha King.
At once, there was a flurry of activities as everyone rushed to put things in order, but Merlin was the most anxious about the king's visit.
He had just swept through the whole pack house, and Maya was not seen. He knew Alpha King Jackson's notorious reputation; with Maya gone, his next thicket to secure power was Ayra.
It was no wonder he pulled her aside and whispered his selfish plan into her ears, causing her eyes to widen. Ayra was conflicted and bit down on her lips, unsure, but she had no choice. Merlin was quite convincing.
Alpha King Jackson arrives in no time, his gaze sweeping over the members of the midnight pack who had come to welcome him with a bored expression. He only came here to take his mate.
He barely stepped out of the carriage when he caught sight of his mate standing beside Alpha Carl. And he lost control.
“Where the fuck were you last night? Do you know how much I searched for you?!” He yelled at her face, his hand wrapped around her throat.
Ayra was so stunned by his reaction that she blurted out, “Nowhere! I was home all night!”
A frown crossed Jackson's face, and he leaned in to inhale her scent, and that was when it dawned on him. This was not his mate.
“Who the fuck are you?! ” Jackson roared, pushing Ayra away roughly, and she fell to the ground, the wig slipping from her head.
Jackson's eyes flashed with anger. “Why are you dressed like this?! Where is the owner of this wig.”
Ayra, seeing the death sentence in those eyes, had no choice but to confess. “Forgive me, Your Majesty! I didn't mean to deceive you. My sister was meant to be here, but I had no choice but to take her place. But I don't want to be your lover, please, don't kill me! I'm so sorry.”
What the fuck was she talking about? Alpha Jackson had this ominous feeling in the pit of his belly.
“Alpha Carl,” He called at once, his voice cold and taut.
“Yes, my majesty.” Alpha Carl was like a little puppy before the Alpha King.
“Where is your other daughter? To be precise, Maya?”
Alpha Carl gulped, saying, “I'm afraid, Your Majesty, but my daughter has not been seen at home. If I can ask, though, why do you want to see her?”
“She took something that belongs to me. That's all you need to know. “
Seeing the Alpha King's furious face, Alpha Carl doesn't press further, going ahead to explain. “Maya has always been a difficult child. However, after discovering that her lover Merlin is her sister's mate, she left in a fury and has never been since.”
Although the reason sounded convincing, Jackson could see through their pretense. He might have spent a short time with his mate, but her tears showed she had been hurt. They probably betrayed her.
“My father is right, Your Majesty. My sister is probably doing this out of spite to —”
“Don't talk about her that way!” He roars with such intensity that his wolf makes a brief appearance through the glowing of his eyes, and everyone bows their heads, feeling his authority wash over them.
With their head still bowed, Jackson walks over to Merlin and scans him from head to toe. He then whispers into his ear, “Thank you for letting go of such a precious gem. I'll ensure you regret this decision for the rest of your life.”
Merlin wasn't even breathing. His plan to use Ayra had backfired, and now he was in a worse situation with the Alpha King.
Jackson straightened up, announcing to Alpha Carl. “Find Maya, or you can kiss every support and incentive your pack has enjoyed so far goodbye.”
With his threat still hanging in the air, he turns and enters his carriage, fulfilling his purpose.
“Gideon,” Jackson called.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Find my mate.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
The Alpha King leaned into his carriage, finally relaxing for the first time since that night. He didn't trust Alpha Carl would do a good job, but Gideon would do better.
However, thinking about his mate, a smile brightened on his lips. She was the first woman to have slept with him and stole his money. How interesting.
He couldn't wait to find his little mate. They would have so much fun together.
Two days later, it's finally time for the Summit. The air is thick with anticipation and a palpable sense of dread. Jackson stands by the foyer, a dark figure framed by the towering archway, checking the time on his watch. It's almost time.Snarling, he barks out final orders to Marcus and the men who will be accompanying them, his voice sharp and authoritative."Make sure the perimeter is secure," he commands, his eyes scanning the room. "I want no surprises tonight.""Yes, Alpha," Marcus replies, his voice respectful. "Everything is in place."He's about to say something else when he hears the sound of little feet coming down the stairs. It's the triplets.Jackson feels something warm roll in his chest at the sight of them in their outfits. Eli and Aiden dressed in their pressed little tuxedos, their dark hair neatly combed, their eyes wide with a mixture of nervousness and excitement.Rose, in her own emerald green dress flowing around her like a shimmering waterfall. The five-
Jackson turns his head away, likely considering the conversation over butMaya refuses to back down. She rises from the armchair and stomps in front of him, blocking his line of sight. "Don't you think they have a right to be there? They're part of this family, part of this world. You can't keep them hidden away forever.""I'm trying to protect them!" he shouts, his voice echoing through the room. "Don't you understand? This world is full of monsters, and I won't let them anywhere near my children.""But hiding them won't protect them," Maya argues, her voice rising to match his. "It'll just make them more vulnerable. They need to learn how to navigate this world, how to defend themselves. And they need to do it with you by their side."Maya takes a painful breath and continues, each word escaping her lips like she's pulling teeth. "Besides, we both know Esther Carter wasn't the only one who thought they needed 'correcting'. You know, clearing them of my 'taint'."Jackson flinches vi
After Jackson agrees, however reluctantly, Maya follows him into his study.Maya sinks into a plush leather chair, feeling dwarfed by the sheer size of the furniture made for a six-foot-four alpha werewolf. She watches as Jackson paces back and forth, his brow furrowed in thought, his energy radiating a palpable sense of unease."So," she says, breaking the silence, "what's so bad about this Summit Ball?"Jackson stops pacing, turning to face her, his expression irritated. "Everything," he says, his voice laced with disdain. "It's a waste of time, a breeding ground for gossip and political maneuvering. And it's filled with people I'd rather disembowel than share a glass of blood with."Maya raises an eyebrow, amused by his dramatic pronouncements. "Sounds like fun," she says, a teasing glint in her eyes.Jackson glares at her, his lips twitching in a sneer. "You have no idea," he says, his voice dropping suddenly. "The other guests might be small-minded fools, but… they're formidable
Maya grins at Jackson, taking the man off guard at the sight of her smile, “That's enough for me." She says cheerfully. Finally! It's looks like she's making headway with all this. Now all she has to do is convince him to sleep with her. On the same bed. Tonight.Fuck.Jackson clears his throat, the sound sharp in the quiet hallway, pulling her out of her thoughts. Maya tilt's her head in question, trying to seem like she wasn't just thinking about the both of them alone in a bed.“Yes?" Jackson gestures to the hall, his posture stiff, as if standing too straight might somehow help him regain control of the fragile thread of civility between them. “We can have the discussion in my study,” he says, voice clipped. Maya, suddenly feeling the fati 10gue from their impromptu race, nods in agreement. Her muscles ache, her lungs burn, and the lingering tension from their earlier argument weighs on her. "Fine by me," she says, her voice slightly breathless.“You know,” she continues, “it’
Hours later, back in the manor, Maya still isn't sold on the idea. She still feels heat burn her cheeks when she thinks about what she's about to ask the alpha.'sleep with him?’ she thinks with a touch of hysteria. Was Agnes really insane? Maybe all those visions of hers had finally driven her off the deep edge! There was no way that was going to fly over with both of them, not even taking into account what the kids might think.(Gods the kids! She already had three of them, what if they did- okay! Maya, end that thought now! No need to think that far! Fuck, what was wrong with her?)But it was the only way she had been shown to end this stupid bond, so Maya was going to take it.Bracing herself, she tracks him down, using Intel from the servants and her own intuition. Finally, she finds him in the general library, surrounded by towering shelves of ancient books, his brow furrowed in concentration as he pores over a leather-bound volume in the dark, using a only small lamp as a light
The sun sinks low behind the distant hills, casting a bruised orange glow over the estate as the day drags on. Maya’s steps echo softly through the expansive halls.Jackson is missing.Well, not really missing, missing. He's still here in the mansion but he seems to be actively avoiding her, the children, and even his beta, a behavior that is both unsettling and deeply frustrating.Maya finds herself constantly scanning the vast halls of the estate, her eyes searching for a glimpse of his dark hair, a fleeting shadow of his imposing figure. But he remains elusive. It's almost like he has the ability to teleport. The triplets, sensing the shift in atmosphere, are unusually quiet, their playful energy subdued. They cling to Maya, their small hands seeking reassurance, their innocent eyes reflecting her own unease. She tries to project an air of normalcy, reading them stories, playing games, but her heart isn't in it. Her mind is consumed by Jackson, by his emotional outburst, by his
