The morning passes quickly, filled with laughter and games.

They play hide-and-seek in the gardens, build forts in their bedroom, and read stories in the library.

She tries her best to avoid the study room and any other rooms her children have suffered in, cursing not for the last time, the unfairness of the world and the stupidity of bigoted alpha traditions for hurting her children.

Still, Maya throws herself into orchestrating more fun things they can do as a family, determined to make this day as normal and as happy as possible.

She wants to erase the painful memories of the past, to create new, positive memories that will last a lifetime.

It’s not until noon that she finally sees Jackson.

She and the children are returning from the gardens, their faces flushed, their clothes slightly rumpled from their games.

They had a picnic near the lake close to the estate borders, throwing stones and trying to see who could make the biggest splash.

They enter the manor, their laugh

Maya grins at Jackson, taking the man off guard at the sight of her smile, “That's enough for me." She says cheerfully. Finally! It's looks like she's making headway with all this. Now all she has to do is convince him to sleep with her. On the same bed. Tonight.Fuck.Jackson clears his throat, the sound sharp in the quiet hallway, pulling her out of her thoughts. Maya tilt's her head in question, trying to seem like she wasn't just thinking about the both of them alone in a bed.“Yes?" Jackson gestures to the hall, his posture stiff, as if standing too straight might somehow help him regain control of the fragile thread of civility between them. “We can have the discussion in my study,” he says, voice clipped. Maya, suddenly feeling the fati 10gue from their impromptu race, nods in agreement. Her muscles ache, her lungs burn, and the lingering tension from their earlier argument weighs on her. "Fine by me," she says, her voice slightly breathless.“You know,” she continues, “it’

Hours later, back in the manor, Maya still isn't sold on the idea. She still feels heat burn her cheeks when she thinks about what she's about to ask the alpha.'sleep with him?’ she thinks with a touch of hysteria. Was Agnes really insane? Maybe all those visions of hers had finally driven her off the deep edge! There was no way that was going to fly over with both of them, not even taking into account what the kids might think.(Gods the kids! She already had three of them, what if they did- okay! Maya, end that thought now! No need to think that far! Fuck, what was wrong with her?)But it was the only way she had been shown to end this stupid bond, so Maya was going to take it.Bracing herself, she tracks him down, using Intel from the servants and her own intuition. Finally, she finds him in the general library, surrounded by towering shelves of ancient books, his brow furrowed in concentration as he pores over a leather-bound volume in the dark, using a only small lamp as a light

The sun sinks low behind the distant hills, casting a bruised orange glow over the estate as the day drags on. Maya’s steps echo softly through the expansive halls.Jackson is missing.Well, not really missing, missing. He's still here in the mansion but he seems to be actively avoiding her, the children, and even his beta, a behavior that is both unsettling and deeply frustrating.Maya finds herself constantly scanning the vast halls of the estate, her eyes searching for a glimpse of his dark hair, a fleeting shadow of his imposing figure. But he remains elusive. It's almost like he has the ability to teleport. The triplets, sensing the shift in atmosphere, are unusually quiet, their playful energy subdued. They cling to Maya, their small hands seeking reassurance, their innocent eyes reflecting her own unease. She tries to project an air of normalcy, reading them stories, playing games, but her heart isn't in it. Her mind is consumed by Jackson, by his emotional outburst, by his

She pauses, letting her words sink in, her gaze unwavering. "I'm not asking for details of pack business, I'm not demanding classified information about your enemies, I'm not trying to pry into things that are none of my concern. I'm asking you to trust me with your story. With the things that make you, you."She reaches out, her hand hovering hesitantly before gently touching his arm, her fingertips barely brushing against the thick fabric of his shirt. He stiffens at her touch, his muscles coiling beneath her fingers, but he doesn't pull away, doesn't break the contact. It's a small victory, a sign that perhaps, just perhaps, he's not completely closed off to her."I want to know the real Jackson," she continues, her voice soft but firm, laced with a quiet determination. "Not the person your pack knows and fears, not the ruthless alpha Carter that strikes terror into the hearts of his enemies, but the man beneath the surface. The one you keep locked away, hidden from everyone, inc

Hesitation washes over her, a wave of doubt threatening to drown her resolve. The catastrophe with the servants replays in her mind, the raw anger, the cruelty of his words. Can she really face him? Can she control her own emotions and still manage to get through to him?She takes a deep breath, steeling herself. She has to. For herself, for her children. She knocks, her knuckles rapping softly against the heavy wood.Silence. She knocks again, louder this time. Still nothing.Confusion creases her brow. Jackson is always in his office, working, brooding. It's his own little liar, his domain. She reaches for the doorknob, her hand trembling slightly. She knows she shouldn't, that it's an invasion of his privacy. But she can't wait, she can't postpone this any longer. She turns the knob and pushes the door open, her breath catching in her throat. The room is dim, the curtains drawn, casting long shadows across the floor. The air is thick with the scent of old books and something els

A chime echoes from within, its tone ancient and discordant. Maya waits, her heart pounding in her chest. The door creaks open, revealing a woman who seems as old as time itself. Her face is a roadmap of wrinkles, her eyes are dark and piercing, and her hair is a tangled mass of grey. She wears a long, flowing robe, adorned with strange symbols and beads."You are Maya," the woman says, her voice raspy. "A really loud woman said you would come."Maya nods, her throat tight. "Yes. Lily sent me. I… I need your help."The woman gestures for her to enter. Maya steps inside, crossing the threshold. The interior of the house is even more cluttered and chaotic than the exterior. Shelves overflow with books, jars, and strange artifacts. Incense burns in a corner, filling the air with a heavy, cloying scent."Come," the woman says, leading Maya through the maze of objects. "Tell me what you need.”Maya nods, swallowing hard. “I need you to do something for me. I need to break a bond—”“Ah,”
