Ember stared at Thorne defiantly, her chest rising and falling with pemt up rage. She had already checked out mentally, and being forced to stay in a place she didn’t want to be in was going to be hell.

Thorne met her gaze with the same intensity, then he said something that stunned her.

“If you leave this territory, make sure you never come back. My guards will tear you apart if you so much as step a foot in.” His voice was icy. He meant it.

Ember was at a loss for words. She had been ready to fight for her right to leave, not for him to cut her off completely. Before she could respond, Thorne waved a hand at his guards. They released Caden immediately, the chains clattering to the floor as he stood up, glaring at Thorne.

“Let’s go get our mother, Ember,” Caden said, grabbing her arm and leading her out the door. Her gaze locked with Thorne’s until they stepped into the hallway, the mate bond thumping in her chest.

Caden walked briskly, like he already knew where their mother was, he

Caden stood atop the large wall that surrounded the Silvercrest mansion, Matteo’s elaborate pack house. The night was still, with little activity as the guards loitered around under the guise of patrolling.Caden took in a deep breath, letting the air sweep through his lungs, closing his eyes in concentration and identifying Stella’s scent amongst the barrage of other smells emanating from the environment. Stella was there, alright. The path to the mansion was a long and open field with no hiding spots. He had never had to sneak into the place like this. But after living there for almost three years, from the day he was kidnapped and separated from his sister and mother, he had memorized the layout and knew it like the back of his hand.He simply followed the fence, running in a crouched position without the guards seeing him. He knew Matteo wanted his head. The last time he was here, he had been given a mission to assassinate an alpha, and he had not only failed, but he had also acce

Over the mountainous range toward the north was the weeping creek, a narrow stream flowing under a large ancient willow tree, surrounded by trees and woods, Collin’s location of choice.Thorne and his nine men, including Ragnar, crouched low to the ground in their wolf forms, inching forward and sniffing with their noses for any trace of their enemies. The area was eerily quiet, with only the sound of water hitting the rocks gracefully like little bells tingling. The night was cold but not too cold for the giant beasts they were. Fireflies flitted about like tiny watchmen, as if to light up the blood that was about to be shed.’No sign of them,’ Ragnar said smoothly through the link.‘They’re here, I can feel it,’ Thorne replied gruffly. ‘Be on guard and ready to tear any moving target apart,’ he said widely to the network of the other men. They were just shy of the stream itself, their muscles tense, hidden beneath the tall grass, waiting. This wasn’t a handoff anymore, they knew tha

Raphael stood his ground, unflinching as he said to Caden, “He let me be present because he thought I was a valuable asset.”“Why?” Caden sneered, barely restraining his violent tendencies.“Because I’m the next in line as the new Alpha of Ashen Pack.”Caden paused. Even Luna Zyrah turned to him, perking up at the surprising news.Raphael continued, “Matteo tried to buy my loyalty once he discovered who I was, and that’s why he gave me that access. But I used the opportunity well and planned the rescue immediately I heard Collin mention using Kaya and Gertrude as bargaining chips. I would never have stood aside and done nothing.”“Why have you stayed hidden and quiet all this while?” Luna Zyrah asked him curiously.“After the last war, my parents fled and I haven’t heard from them since. According to intel I picked up from living with Thorne, I’m sure they’re not dead. They just ran like cowards, leaving me behind. Leaving our pack to fall into ruins and into the hands of traffickers.

‘Imagine that,’ Caden chuckled through the link. He bumped Raphael’s shoulder and walked ahead, joining the procession of wolves heading back into Bloodveil.“Don’t fall behind. We’re not safe until we’re within the walls,” he added.Raphael knew exactly what Caden meant with that first comment. He had been so hell-bent on getting Kaya to love him, that he ignored everything else. He disrespected her mate bond, betrayed his own friends and gave Matteo what he needed just to get close to her. He was so sure he didn’t want what fate had in store for him, but now… here she was.She moved her fingers over his muzzle carefully, like she was still unsure. Her touch dragged him back into the moment. He stared at her, realizing something dumb… he didn’t even know her name.‘What’s your name?’ he asked. “My name is Eira.”‘Eira.’ He repeated, savoring the name. She glanced down shyly. “You didn’t even know it was me.”Raphael nudged her hand with his snout softly. ’I’m sorry about that. I lo

‘Any last words, hero?’ The large brown wolf growled dangerously through the link, keeping his eyes locked on Raphael like a predator sizing up its prey.Raphael snarled back, refusing to break the eye contact. He slowly crouched down to the side, easing Gertrude and the girl off his back. Even though he barely knew the girl, a sudden fierce protectiveness flared inside him the moment she stepped down. Her touch lingered in his mind like a spark, and he missed it already. He glanced from the corner of his eye as the girl helped Gertrude to her feet, limping over to Kaya and the other girl, who lay unconscious on the ground. Raphael’s chest tightened seeing them helpless like that.’That’s right, huddle close,’ the brown wolf sneered, his voice dripping with cruelty, ’after I kill the boy, we’re heading straight back to base.’Gertrude stopped, turning to face the brown wolf with tears running down her face.“Please, let us go. They’re just children,” she pleaded desperately. The wolf’

The site smelled heavily of smoke and roasting rabbits. It was obvious that they felt safe enough to let their scents rise into the air carelessly. That meant they were confident about their location, and they had every reason to be. The camp was upwind, tucked close to a mountain ridge, so anyone trying to track them from the south wouldn’t catch a single trace or whiff of them. Collin had picked the place well. Raphael would’ve never found it if he hadn’t followed Collin the day he came to make that deal with Alpha Matteo. Even then, it wasn’t easy. He’d had to smear himself in bondwax, a thick sap from a bondwood tree that was effective to kill all scent and good for camouflage. It worked so well that he couldn’t even smell himself or anything around him anymore. He didn’t like the feeling it gave him, but it had to be done, he hoped the effects wouldn’t last too long.Tonight would decide the futures and alliances of the four territories. And Raphael had picked a side.He watched

The moment the words left Caden’s mouth, all the air was sucked out of the room. Ember froze, then she felt a fast woosh by her side. Thorne moved in a flash, faster than she could even conceive the thought of stopping him.The wall cracked and caved where he slammed Caden, his fist locked tight around Caden’s throat. Caden grunted from having all the air knocked out of him, and before he could recover, Thorne’s fist slammed into his face…. each punch landing with a deadly calmness.“Watch. Your. Fucking. Mouth,” Thorne growled deep within his chest, his eyes flashing red, each word accompanied by a punch. He withdrew his fist slowly, his knuckles dripping with Caden’s blood.Ember, frozen, watched as Caden shifted immediately, his wolf’s jaws snapping forward and sinking into Thorne’s shoulder.Thorne didn’t flinch. His eyes burned still, his grip firm around Caden’s wolf’s throat. He punched his muzzle again and again as Caden bit deeper into his shoulder, growling aggressively. B

Ember sat in Alpha Thorne’s office chair lazily, idly flipping through the papers scattered across his desk. Thorne stood by the window, tense and his shoulders stiff, his eyes locked on the view outside. She let her gaze linger on the shape of his broad shoulders, up to the hard line of his jaw from the side, and she wondered, wistfully, how different their story could’ve been if he weren’t so damn stubborn, and if there wasn’t so much chaos hanging over their heads. She loved him. That part was certain. But love wasn’t enough… especially when her entire territory was on the line.Ember stood up and walked over to him, standing by his side. She followed his gaze through the window, but all she saw was the usual activity buzzing across the estate of pack members going about their normal routines. It looked peaceful, at least on the surface. They stood in silence until she felt his hand slip over hers, a soft, slow caress that might’ve been absentminded. Or not. Then he spoke, tensely.

Luna Zyrah stood on the balcony at Bloodveil, sipping from the steaming cup of herbal tea in her hand. The wind tugged at the shawl draped over her shoulders, sending it fluttering behind her like a restless spirit. She took a slow breath, fixing her eyes on the night sky, then she let out a quiet chuckle.“You move quietly… like a mouse,” she said calmly. “But a cat can smell mice.”A voice floated out from the shadows, purring. “And yet you didn’t smell me writhing under your husband all those years… right under your nose.”Zyrah’s claws extended with a sound like a sword escaping its sheath, and she whipped around, slashing blindly toward the voice. She snarled, stalking the resulting laughter that echoed away from her. Then Serene stepped out from behind a pillar, the moonlight glinting on her skin and making her shimmer ethereally. Her long dark hair floated in the soft cold wind. Zyrah growled deeply in her throat. “I’ll strip the flesh off your bones and line the walls of Bloo
