The site smelled heavily of smoke and roasting rabbits. It was obvious that they felt safe enough to let their scents rise into the air carelessly. That meant they were confident about their location, and they had every reason to be. The camp was upwind, tucked close to a mountain ridge, so anyone trying to track them from the south wouldn’t catch a single trace or whiff of them. Collin had picked the place well. Raphael would’ve never found it if he hadn’t followed Collin the day he came to make that deal with Alpha Matteo. Even then, it wasn’t easy. He’d had to smear himself in bondwax, a thick sap from a bondwood tree that was effective to kill all scent and good for camouflage.
