Axelair’s POV

"Alpha?”

I blinked off whatever I wanted to say. “Her people are with me, Frank. Like it or not, she is the last surviving heir. Remember her parents were on the throne before they were—”

“—finished off by you in revenge.” Frank grinned faintly. “You sure that’s all it is? Because the way you talk about her, it sounds a lot like obsession. And if she is alive, she will come for you, Axel. I heard she is a beast. Or was a beast.” He made a dead sign while smiling.

Just when I thought Alex had gone, another one is right here with me. Psycho. I stood up quickly, pushing my chair back.

"Drop it, Frank.”

He raised his hands in mock surrender. “Fine. I’m just saying, people don’t usually risk everything for someone they ‘hate.’ If you do see each other, you are sworn enemies already.”

I didn’t answer. Instead, I walked to the barred window and stared out at the dark courtyard below. My chest felt tight again, the same way it had when I first said her name. Meliora. I hated he

Axelair's POV Her lips pressed against mine hard enough to sting, but I didn’t pull away at once… maybe it was the heat of the moment or the exhaustion burning through my body, but I let Samantha chew on my lower lips there for a second before I finally pushed her back by the shoulders.I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and smirked down at her. “You kiss like someone who’s desperate not to lose.”Her eyes widened at my words, and for once she looked like she hadn’t expected the blow. The teasing tone I used didn’t soften whatever I meant, and she knew it. Samantha swallowed hard, then took a half step back as though I’d shoved her. “Desperate?” she whispered.I raised a brow. “Don’t pretend you don’t hear it. You’re clawing at me like I’m the last bone in the den. It doesn’t suit you, Samantha.”Her lips parted like she wanted to snap back, but then she sighed, brushing her wavy hair from her face. When she looked at me again, the playfulness was gone. “Fine. Have it your wa

  • Alphas' contract mate   Chapter 44: Her name

Axelair POV I averted my gaze, swallowing hard. “It’s complicated. But don’t feel upset, alright?”She frowned. “Then why do you lock us here? If you want us in your pack, why not let us out?” Her voice was soft but brave. I respected that, taking down the urge to snap at her. I never snap at children. “Because freedom is something you earn. Some of your people would rather spit at me than work with me. I can’t risk it. But you… you’re different.”She looked down, quiet for a moment. Then she whispered, “I’ll earn it.”I nodded. “Good.” I stood up and walked away, the keeper trailing me like a shadow. At the edge of the ridge, I saw Frank coming toward me. His smile was a bit too wide for a place like this.My eyes narrowed. “Where have you been?”He shrugged casually. “Alex left, and Warren was going to leave, so I had to say goodbye.”I studied his face. “You’re so happy. Do you like Warren?”Frank’s eyes widened. “No! He’s like a brother to me!”I scoffed. “What if he’s your mate

  • Alphas' contract mate   Chapter 43: South Ridge

Axelair's POV “Mia… I’m sorry.” I whispered to the wind, hoping she'd hear me. When Uncle Ashish asked for my permission to torture her, I couldn’t refuse. If I did, he would only use it as another excuse to say I wasn’t in my right mind, or that I’d changed. Since when did we start accommodating rogues?Yeah, it was stupid of me to bring Mia in. That’s why I told him to pull the truth out of her. The truth I couldn’t get myself because I was too damn distracted by her heat, her face, and everything else about her.She wasn’t my mate… so why was the goddess messing with me? At least with Alex around, Uncle Ashish wouldn’t push it too far. He would protect her, and he would protect the contract so she wouldn’t run.Besides, these lands are mine. If she ever tried to escape, I’d know. And if she thought she could mask her scent, I’d tear her apart.I shook my head and forced myself to focus on why I was here. The trail started at the South Ridge. My nose was close to the ground, fol

  • Alphas' contract mate   Chapter 42: Leaving Desori Blood

Alexander's POVHer dull eyes flickered, still searching. “And the torture?”“That’s on my uncle.”She blinked slowly. “You call him Uncle. Is he a blood relative?”That pulled me up short. Why would she ask that? Why in that tone? Suspicion prickled down my spine unpleasantly. But I waved it off. “No. He was my father’s beta.”She nodded faintly, her voice slurred with exhaustion. “I see…” Her body sank further into the bed, heavy and spent, but her words dragged out one more time. “What happened… to your father?”My jaw clenched as my gaze shifted to her hand resting weakly against the bloodied sheets. The wound there twitched, trying to knit itself shut, but the black veins kept crawling outward, stubborn and corrupt. My gut twisted at the sight. Wolfsbane and silver were really horrible torture tools. Uncle went far this time.“He died,” I muttered at last, averting my gaze. The words scraped out of me rougher than I meant. “Of poison years ago.” When I looked back at Mia, he

  • Alphas' contract mate   Chapter 41: Whoa, there!

Alexander's POVAshish stopped immediately, throwing me an intrigued look. If he was offended by my tone or words, he didn't say much about it. Goddess above… help me.I took a deep breath, plastering an appeasing smile on my face.“Uncle Ashish, that's enough for now.”Ashish’s eyes told me I was fucking nuts to even suggest that. “She hasn’t said anything useful.” I resisted the urge to tell him all he did was to tighten Mia’s tongue. “She’s tortured enough,” Donotrom’s voice growled back through me. I blinked. Whoa, there.Ashish frowned, taken aback by my tone. After a moment, he lowered his hand, muttering something under his breath, but I didn’t care. I reached out for Mia, and gathered her into my arms. She was trembling so violently I could feel it through my ribs. Her blood smeared across me, hot and sticky, soaking into my shirt.“Kill me. Make it end.”“No, love.” I carried her out, ignoring Ashish’s resigned stare burning into my back.Halfway up the stairs, a voice ch
