Violet's POV

"Thank you for the job well done. I will see you in fifteen minutes," I said to Charles before he walked out of my main office.

Simon sat across from me with bruises on his forehead and skin. He was breathing shakily, and I could see his teary eyes trying to dry up.

"Simon, I'm so sorry about what happened. I wouldn't have done this if it wasn't to keep you safe," I began, but he wasn't in the mood to hear any of that.

I also wouldn’t deny how surprising it was to see someone literally weak raise his voice at me. "Don't say that to me, Violet. You preferred him to me and chose him instead. You didn't do this to save me. You wouldn't do that."

Letting out a deep breath, I replied to him again. "Alright, let's not talk about the rescue part of the story. Let's talk about how to make sure you get to live a good life."

"There's no way I would live a good life knowing my own mate is already married to the host Alpha of the region. How can I live a good life with that in mind?"
