Chapter 2

Paul

While on route to the palace, I took my cellphone out and proceeded to make some calls. I'm planning on a new way of taking the necessary precaution not to lose track of any of Philip's movements again. I'm thinking high tech or biological measures. He doesn't need to know the details but I will have him pinned.

First thing I need to do is schedule a meeting with security services, someone must answer for letting them leave the palace unprotected. Going through my agenda I spot the day Philip's betrothed will be visiting to arrange accommodations in what will be their new home. My mind start to wonder how the Sinclair heiress will fit perfectly for the role of princess, she comes from a wealthy family. They are well connected in the real estate industry and have established themselves in the stock market. The Sinclair's are billionaires with many real estate assets. Money, power and women. Three things needed to keep the world spinning.

To be honest, I hated political stuff, is something I had to master in front of people when actually I give a fuck who gets married to whom. I’d be within my territory minding my own business if it weren't because I gave my word and I can't go back on it. The Council, is another matter. I'll have to watch closely those assholes chosen amongst the lords who want to push an election system for the governorship. So far their efforts have not succeeded. People still accepted and adore the fact of having a reigning family.

As Philip’s advisor, I'm going to make sure that bill doesn't go through. Strong leadership is needed and my instincts  tell me not to trust the people in the Council and I don't like them for other reasons. They are negotiating with poachers instead of processing them. This is a big problem for the packs, must of them leave in fear or are forced to abandon their territories. I remember my own pack going through the agony of moving around until the duke intervened and gave of the piece of land we are now. We roam this country even before the humans settled in and now we are thrown of our own lands.

I’m going to put an end to it once the prince is crowned and can rule as the next sucesor. We have live without any problems but we need the new prince to secure peace in our borders. The packs under my jurisdiction needs reassurance we are going to live in peace. Then I can return to tend my pack and continue with my businesses. It has been a long time since I visited to company.

The ride to the palace went by quickly with no more delays and Philip snored all the way in the back seat of the limo. Once we arrived at the gates I give staff precise instructions on letting him rest at least two hours. I didn’t want to waste any more time.  The day is full of meetings, public appearances and events.

After relaxing a couple of hours I was headed out of my study. Philip was already up and waiting for me in his quarters. When one of the staff members approached me. "Your Grace, I have an urgent message for you."

"I'm afraid your presence is required right away, your Grace." The man made a small bow and waited for my response.

"What is it now, is got something to do with the prince?" I frowned, intrigued.

"Lady Viviane Sinclair, your Grace. She is at the Council building to be precise. Asking for an audience with the lords. But I thought you must know first before you arrive there."

"What!" She is not supposed to be here until next week." My eyes widened in shock. Staff members knew how easily my mood can change when things didn't go as I planned or just happened without my knowledge. The man quivered in fear I might stroke him.

"Thank you, you did good letting me know. You are excused." I dismissed him. To my astonishment, I found myself talking more calmly than I expected.

"Your Grace."  The man bowed retreated backwards with respect out of my sight.

This can't be good.  My wolf agitates and starts to pace in my head.  A bad omen sensation in the pit of my stomach began to brew. I didn't waste any time and once in the limo I was already making a quick phone call to my contacts in the Council. "I want to know everything about Lady Viviane's visit and make sure to distract her before we get there."

I'm not in the mood for spoiled brats today.  The day was only starting and I already wanted someone's head on a silver platter. I was starting to feel pissed things are nor turning out as planned.

I catch Jack gazing back at me through the rear-mirror. "Eyes on the road fucker. We don't have time for accidents.” He rearranged himself in the driver's seat and hastily answered "No, you're Grace."

"Keep it cool, asshole." I mind-linked and exchanged glances again. "I want to make sure we are on the same page". He is like a brother to me, more the reason he better not play fool with me.

I got lost in my thoughts again, “I haven't found the right woman yet.” I told Philip in the car. But I did, many years ago. I loved Merari, I thought she was the one, she wasn’t my fated though. Nothing bothered me more than this issue, everyone expected me to find my mate. I may be fucked up but I still believed the moon goddess have someone somewhere made especially for me. But I have been shrugged it off not wanting to get my heart broken again. Truth be told, I just needed to have little of more faith and wait for her, patiently. That there, was a going to be problem, I don’t like to wait for things to happen magically. I need to be in charge and take control all the time.

I recognize it has not been easy all this years to lead a pack alone, run a thriving business and take over as duke made me promised him. I would be lucky if I could have a Luna by my side. This woman will not only share my bed but my responsibilities of taking care of the pack and the key birth my heir for the next generation.
