“Okay… First, always trust your instincts, if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t safe.

Second, practice target denial, when you have the opportunity to escape from a situation before it turns bad, take it.

Third, present yourself with confidence even though you are scared. Be aware of the message your body sends to those around you. Attackers mostly search for women who appear frightened, confused, or distracted.

Forth, set strong verbal boundaries, this skill is effective as a self-defense tool. When an attacker engages with you in a conversation, he’s actually “interviewing” you to see if you’ll make a good victim. Most attackers will use their words to freeze you into fear, reducing the chance for you to try and defend yourself.

Five, keep a non-confrontation posture. It’s a secret weapon in the element of surprise. Most attackers have the confidence that you will not defend yourself, you should take advantage of this misconception.
