ALEX

The packhouse smells like blood and ash.

But not the kind that's fresh or battle-hot.

The kind that lingers after everything’s already been decided.

I notice it the moment I return, and the pack members stare at me like something they still can't fathom.

The first time in almost a week since they all see me. And I'm greeted, not by an apology or by an explanation, but by that careful silence that's unsure of how to respond.

I slowly step into the corridor, half-expecting the walls to press in again, half-expecting someone to grab me and say it was all a mistake. That I’m still a threat or still the problem.

No one does.

The packhouse is awake in the way it gets after disaster. Quiet and alert. Wolves move with purpose but avoid each other’s eyes, and those familiar whispers trail behind doors and die the moment I pass.

They know. They know everything. More importantly, they know I didn’t do it.

And somehow, that feels worse.

Still, unneecing as it is, my mind isn't focused on th

  • An Alpha's Obsession    Chapter 64: The Patient Dog

ALEXI think Adrian's avoiding me. A night’s past since I overheard his conversation with Logan, and though little has happened since then, I really think he doesn't want to talk to me. Not in a cruel or dramatic way, but I can semse he's quietly, deliberately, almost carefully pulling away. It's not like he's vanished either. He’s still in the packhouse, still issuing orders, still present in all the places that matter. He just… reroutes. Changing corridors when I’m coming down one, sending messages through Sage instead of speaking to me directly, keeping his tone level and distant when we do cross paths……it's almost like we’re negotiating logistics and orbiting something fragile instead of actually confronting it. A sharpened blade of restraint that cuts deeper into me every time I look at him and he's not looking back. I could be imagining it, but that's only if it happens once. The second time, he's probably busy. By the third, the truth's already settled. He’s choosing cont

  • An Alpha's Obsession    Chapter 63: The Price of Hesitation

ALEXI was only looking for Adrian, sure that he would've come back from the patrol by now. I don’t mean to overhear it, but I do.If I’d gone stalking with intent, if I’d pressed my ear to a door or followed a scent knowing it'd leave me to this, maybe I could’ve justified it. But I take the eastern corridor instead of the main stairwell. My head’s still full of Logan’s voice from earlier, and the way he looked at me when he said Adrian lacked courage… as if he already knew something I didn’t.The council chamber doors are slightly open, enough for voice to slip through.Adrian’s is unmistakable.Low, controlled, and tight in that way that stifles his tone.“You don’t get to rewrite what happened.”I stop when I hear it. Not fully, but just enough to quieten my steps. Logan answers him with a laugh that doesn’t reach his eyes. I can tell from the sound of it. That easy cruelty that's always been his trademark.“Rewrite? Nah. I’m just remembering it differently than you like.”“Co

  • An Alpha's Obsession    Chapter 62: Unrecognisable

ALEXI haven't seen Adrian all morning. To me, it felt like a dent. A large dent right in the center of my routine. But to the rest of the pack members, it was like any other normal day. He apparently went on an external patrol rotation with some gammas working border patrol and wouldn't be back until later that night. Don't know why he didn't tell me, but I guess the Alpha of the Clan doesn't need to file away all his movements to a simple member like me. So I asked Liam, as obviously fatigued as he looked. For the rest of the morning, I tell myself I don’t care. It shouldn't matter anyway, it's just a couple hours. But as time stretches by, I can't help but notice that the packhouse almost feels… sharper without him. It's like someone removed a stabilizing weight from the foundation and forgot to warn the house. So while it all looks and feels lighter, there's a noticeable absence that apparently only I am noticing. By afternoon, I realize something else. The pack hasn’t stall

  • An Alpha's Obsession    Chapter 61: Pressure Point

ALEXThe hallway leading up tknmy room feels a bit longer today. Oh, I forgot. I intentionally took the longer route to clear the mess inside my head. So far, if hasn't really gone great. I keep thinking. Replaying that one moment that could've possibly changed everything“Do you want me?”The way his breath hitched. The way his mother opened as he leaned forward and my body felt trapped within his scent. It was so close. He almost said it.That’s the part that won’t let go. Unfortunately, that asshole just had to ruin everything.Logan!Always at the wrong place at the wrong time.I barely even bothered to register his last statement. I don't care what he has planned either. The only thing that's on my mind is “him”.I finally reach my room, pushing it opened and shutting it behind me right before leaning against the wood. The familair linen scent isn't strong enough today. I can smell Adrian's perfume on me from how close we stood. “God” I almost sink to the floor, raking my

  • An Alpha's Obsession    Chapter 60: Time Will Tell

ALEXThe night he visited to confinement and got the better of Miles was the last time I was Alpha Benny.I wasn't sure what he was doing there or why he came down with Sage, but it became obvious that he was working with Adrian.I hadn't seen him since then, but seeing him any sooner couldn't have come at a better time. The brothers were about to kill themselves. More specifically, Adrian. As usual, the pack members gossip about it as the training grounds thin out. “Adrian. With me.” Benny says, titling the hands of suspense. Adrian doesn’t argue, doesn’t even glance back at Logan either. Just moves. Logan, on the other hand, can't stop laughing. Though now it's quietened to a silent chuckle, I wish I could smack the sense back into him. But it's not worth it. So I simply follow behind Adrian.***When we reach the chambers, no one sits. Benny barely even makes it in before glaring back at Adrian. “What?”“Really?” Benny answers. “Why is he here?”Of course. Even though they're

  • An Alpha's Obsession    Chapter 59: Fracture

CHAPTER 59ALEXThe first training session since the “fracture” was today.Moving the cleared weapons from the armory down to the grounds were no easy affair, especially when we finally got down here. It felt different, and not just in a “it's-been-a-while-since-we-came-out-here” different. It genuinely felt… off.My eyes traced the surrounding, and finally rested on the probable causes for that. Adrian, to the far left, adjusting the wraps on his hands. It'd be the first time ever he was actively participating in the training, and not here to teach someone a lesson or oversee the sessions. And then, Logan, adjusting the messy knot his hair’s tied into, with his eyes straight on Adrian. I'm a bit far away for either of them to notice, but it doesn't stop me from picking up their far from lively conversation. “Didn't expect you to be down here. Thought the Alpha would just bark orders from his pedestal and leave the rest to—”“Train,” Adrian says flatly. “Or leave.”Logan’s grin s
