As Rey stepped out of the abandoned shack with Gus, he focused on controlling his entire body.
He could tell that he was trembling within, but thankfully no one could notice it. Ah, and this time it wasn’t due to fear, or some other fickle emotion. ‘Billy, you…!’ At that moment, only one feeling surged through Rey, powerful enough to make him grit his teeth and widen his eyes. It was pure, unbridled rage. ‘You're the one behind all this!’ He struggled to keep his fists unclenched and resisted the urge to lash out or punch something. But his anger was overflowing and he desperately needed an outlet. Unfortunately, they were out in the open, within the slums of the Black Market, Rey knew he couldn’t act rashly now, especially with Aldred and Yuri watching him closely from a distance. ‘I don’t know if they’re suspicious of me for not killing anyone, but…’ For now, they probably weren’t going to make a move against him. Still, he knew he had to keep his guard up. ‘Right now, I better save up all this anger for when we arrive at the location.’ He pictured Alicia in trouble, with the foolish Billy by her side. ‘The idiot let himself be captured as well… he’s just—!’ “So, what now, Sir Ralyks?” Rey’s thoughts were abruptly cut off by Aldred’s question, pulling him back to the present. He had already made it to the presence of his two KariBlanc helpers, and with Gus right next to him, the next thing on the list was what the next step would be. “We’re heading to the Slave Trading Storage Facility—the one where they keep some of their merchandise.” Rey wanted to keep Alicia’s identity secret from Aldred and Yuri. If they knew about her, they might figure out his own identity or use her as leverage against him. He figured it was best to tell them to leave the rest to him, without revealing too much. ‘I don’t want her to be a weak link…’ However, Rey found it difficult to send them off. Apart from their obvious reluctance to leave, Rey still needed them for his dirty work. He hadn’t killed a human yet and had no intention of doing so. ‘I need to keep my hands as clean as possible, just in case an investigation with the TruthSeeker comes up again and I’m asked something along these lines…’ This was Rey’s excuse, but the true reason he didn’t want to take a life was far simpler. He just couldn’t do it. Rey was by no means a hardened killer, and the thought of ending human life and living with those consequences made him nearly retch. Killing Monsters in Dungeons felt like a game. In video games, no matter how realistic, you could always kill anyone and go scot-free. There would be no guilt associated with it, and most people ended up having fun with it. That was how Rey had always felt with the monsters. But people... they were a different story altogether. ‘I… I just…’ “I’m guessing this one here will lead us to the place?” Aldred’s question brought Rey back to the moment. Rey nodded gently, his facade of stoicism working perfectly beneath his obsidian mask. “Perfect! Shall we get going, then?” “Yeah…” The group left the hideout, leaving the bloodied interior just the way it was. The reason behind that could only be guessed. ********* ‘I feel… really weak…’ Alicia had thought that a good night’s rest would make her feel better, but she was dead wrong. She had never felt so terrible in her life. ‘My body won’t even move…’ It felt like she was paralyzed, unable to move even the tiniest parts of her body. Her heartbeat also slowed down despite how scared she was. This darkness that surrounded her felt suffocating. No one spoke, amplifying the sense of terror in the air. Even Billy, whose chatter—despite how irritating it was—kept her company, was nowhere to be heard. Alicia imagined him sitting helplessly in a corner, unable to be of any use. From what Alicia could gather, the room had a box-like shape, with quite a decent amount of space within. When she first woke up within it, she only saw Billy. However, by the time she regained consciousness and looked around her, she noticed the presence of others. There were two other persons in the room with them. Alicia couldn’t see their faces clearly, but she could make out their identities from the shape of their bodies. One was a girl, slightly shorter and likely around her age. The other appeared to be a boy, and he seemed much younger than anyone else in the room. These were the only details Alicia could gather in the dimly lit room. ‘Just how much time has passed? I have no idea…’ Alicia was growing desperate by the minute—specifically because of what Billy told her. They were getting sold today! ‘Please… someone out there… please help!’ ******** Gus led Rey and his two companions to a place within one of the most secluded areas in the community of darkness. A place he called the Warehouse. This place was a massive structure that occupied a wide stretch of land. It had a large fence surrounding it, along with guards who were either stationed in their positions, or were patrolling. All of this grandiose display showed just how important the building behind the walls was. The Workshop— It was a place where Gus’ boss kept his merchandise—human beings, reduced to commodities, waiting to be sold as slaves. Rey couldn't help but feel disgusted when he thought of the concept. He wondered if men like Gus and his Boss ought to even be alive. As rage seared within him, he heard the disgusting voice of Gus. “We drop them off at the entrance. We’re not allowed to go any further in.” The building had two entrances—one leading to the main area where regular slaves were kept, and another at the far back for ‘Special’ products. According to Gus, he and his goons went to the far back since both Alicia and Billy were confirmed to be Skill-Holders and had a Class. In H’Trae, it was rare for young ones like them to possess impressive Classes and multiple Skills. Even a single Skill and an E or D-Tier Class made one valuable as a young product in this market. As a result, they were going to fetch a lot of money. “T-this is all I know… I swear!” Gus pleaded, once again kneeling and bowing to ‘Sir Ralyks.’ Rey was too preoccupied with his own thoughts to take Gus very seriously. His thoughts lay on the building, and the fact that Alicia and Billy would be somewhere inside. ‘Isn’t this too conspicuous, though?’ From the little he knew, even within the criminal underworld, Slave Trade was kept on the down-low. ‘With such a massive structure and several guards, it’s bound to draw attention.’ However, Rey realized that the heightened security also meant better protection for the merchandise. ‘Hmm…’ Rey murmured thoughtfully, surveying the scene from the distant elevated platform alongside his temporary allies. The distance made it difficult to see any specific details within the building. In the end, Rey did the only thing he could. “What do you think about all this, Aldred?” * * * [A/N] Thanks for reading! We’re getting warmer and warmer.Gary’s eyes were seeing red.A blurry, nauseating sight of danger and death clouded his vision.Death was no stranger to him; he had seen his fair share of it, along with pain and gore. But, nothing he had ever experienced compared to this moment.Seeing his comrades—the ones he joked and played games with earlier—reduced to mere lifeless chunks of meat, caused his stomach to churn and his throat to burn. Were it not for the searing pain in his arm, and the certainty of death that weighed heavily on him, Gary was certain that he would have vomited once again.“G-guahhh… ahhh… arghhh…” Tears mixed with drool slipped down his face, and mucus flowed from his nose and he shivered. He looked like a pathetic sniveling rat that could only tremble in the face of danger.“Ahh… I suppose I was being a bit impatient. For a moment there, I thought you were reaching for a weapon.”The way the masked figure spoke so casually, despite Gary just losing an arm, made a flickering flame of rage burn wit
“AHHHHHHHH!”Gary suddenly began to hear noises coming from within the hideout.‘Hm…?’The noise continued, though the sound was muffled since Gary was outside.“Are they fighting again?” He grumbled. “Those idiots… they’ll wake up the Leader!”He hurried through his task, slipping his stick into his boxer shorts despite the liquid dribbling onto his already filthy underwear. Rushing wasn’t new to him; he brushed off the discomfort with nonchalance. He closed the pouch and tied it back around his Wesson, covering everything with his boxer shorts.Right as he was done, he heard another scream echo within the place. It was a blood-curdling one—not resembling one borne out of the usual brawl among comrades.Gary felt his heart skip a beat, but this fear was swiftly overruled by the fear of what their Leader would do to everyone if he was woken up by their screaming.Even if Gary wasn’t among them, he knew the Leader’s punishment was one he could not escape. With a burst of strength fuel
Rey already knew he couldn’t win—at least, not absolutely. The evidence stacked against him was substantial, and the reality of his situation was far more implicating than the accusations he was being tried for.As a result, he settled for a stalemate.‘The only thing I didn’t expect was the stuff with Lady Vida. She really came at me strongly…’Fortunately, it didn’t completely derail his plans.‘In the end, no one can prove I did anything wrong, and there’s no proof I’m guilty.’That was good enough for Rey.******"After carefully examining all the evidence presented and weighing the testimonies provided, along with the defenses put forth by the accused, we have arrived at a decision," announced the head of the Royal Council as they reconvened in the Royal Court. The Royal Council had been absent from the court for nearly twenty minutes, deliberating on the case at hand.‘They were gone for quite a while…’ Rey thought to himself as he observed each council member's demeanor, trying
‘This will be too easy!’Adam’s eyes bulged as he raised his blade high above his head. While he had never plunged a weapon into someone before, he had watched enough action flicks to get the gist. The plan seemed simple: drive the dagger into Adonis' chest, and let the blade take care of the rest.Adam could feel saliva form in his mouth. Was it anticipation or anxiety causing it? It was hard to say.One thing was certain, though…‘I have to do this!’Adam had already made up his mind. His eyes gave off a murderous glare at this, and he tensed his muscles as he prepared for the thrust.‘It’s nothing personal, Adonis…’ Adam silently mouthed, though his wide grin told a different story.‘… I just gotta do it!’~WHOOOOSH!~The blade sliced through the air around it as it descended to complete its task.As it went down, Adam’s eyes widened even further, as if waiting for the first sight of blood and guts gushing out of his target.Much to his incredible shock, none of that happened.~C
“Oi…”Billy thought he heard a sound behind him, but the sound of his heart shattering was loud enough to drown all external noise.“Hey, big man!”A sudden hand on his back and a warm smile greeted Billy, jolting him forward in surprise. He turned to find a stranger, relaxed and nonchalant. This stranger sported a black eyepatch over one eye, contrasting sharply with his long, flowing black hair.He had strands of beard protruding from his chin, and he was outfitted in a high-quality black robe.Billy had initially wanted to smack the man for hitting him so suddenly, but he chose not to after contemplating it a little.‘I wouldn’t want to accidentally kill him…’ His thoughts trailed. The man had a stupid grin on his face which made Billy angrier. He didn’t realize when he was frowning at the total stranger.“What do you want?” He asked in mild annoyance. If this guy was here to comfort him, then Billy could already see himself clenching his fist and getting ready for what would come
“GRRRRR!!!”As a feral beast growled and barked at Rey, he couldn’t help but let out a small smirk, watching the creature closely.‘Well, that didn’t take very long…’ His thoughts trailed off as he observed the creature's unique features. The beast in front of him looked like a monkey—no, more like a chimp—but it had a few distinct differences that made it stand out.For one, its entire body was covered in white hair. Secondly, its pale gray skin and bright blue eyes were definitely not primate-like.Finally, while it was as large as a regular human, due to it squatting in a quadrupedal fashion, it appeared shorter than Rey.‘I guess the last one is pretty much in line with monkeys, huh?’The beast before him had very sharp jaws, as if belonging to a carnivore, and its bright blue eyes exuded nothing but sheer hatred.Despite all of these, though, Rey remained surprisingly composed as he assessed the unfamiliar creature before him.‘I’ve never seen or heard of this kind of creature be
[Moments Earlier]“It’s about time…”Adam Sanchez rose from his bed with a resolute expression on his face.As his eyes stared into the distance, his face fixed on the door that stood meters away, he had a vacant expression. His lips trembled slightly as he hid the special dagger in his pocket.‘It’s pretty late now. It’s the perfect moment to strike…’To prepare for this moment, his partner had granted him another Enchanted Item—a Stealth Necklace.Using that, along with his sole B-Tier Skill, Adam figured he could get the job done.‘No matter how strong he is… Adonis will be vulnerable in his sleep!’The floor seemed to creak as Adam took steps forward. It could have been his imagination, but the journey to the door felt longer than usual.Reaching the door at last, he placed his hand on the knob with a gentle touch.“Haaa…” He took a deep breath and calmed himself.Clearing his mind of distractions, Adam focused solely on his goal. His goal was simple, and the stage was set for hi
In a luxurious office in an undisclosed location, a man stood by the window, paying no attention to the elegant chair and stunning desk behind him.The blond hair on his head was a lot longer than a man’s, but a tad shorter than a woman’s. He had a few wrinkles on his face, indicating his age, and a short beard that was neatly trimmed. His outfit matched the layout of the room—elegant and clearly expensive. He was watching the events of the marketplace—the Black Market—with a smile on his face.As one of the six members of the Obsidian Council, it pleased him to see the community thriving. As he savored the taste of his wine and reminisced, a sharp knock interrupted his thoughts. The man’s emerald eyes snapped towards the door, his smile slowly fading.“Come in.”The door creaked open, revealing a man dressed in a lavish waistcoat and formal attire. Despite his youthful appearance—likely in his early thirties—the wisdom reflected in his gaze betrayed his age. This was Aldred Winsley
Rey took in a deep breath. He had never been in an actual sale before, but that didn’t stop him from trying his best.Besides, there were a bunch of things he hadn’t done before, but he still managed to scale through them on the first try.‘Fighting monsters is a good example…’Currently, he was walking a fine line.‘I have to be careful.’“The Grade is considerably high, and since this is a wholesale, you should know that I have over a thousand pieces,” Rey finally spoke, his voice clear and his tone confident.“I am well aware, but—”“I am also well aware of your procedures. However, I have mine. And that entails speaking to a higher-up when it comes to business of this scale.”Rey could already see anxiety creep in on the face of the man in glasses. He just had to keep pushing.“We’re talking goods worth hundreds, if not thousands of Platinum Coins. Do you really think you are sufficient to handle such a trade? Will you take full responsibility?”“S-sir, I’m just doing my job…” the
“We’re going on a short break. I’ll be right back!”The way Billy stormed out of the training grounds made it clear that he wasn’t in a great mood. The onlookers could clearly see that Rey, who had been a nobody until now, had managed to get under Billy’s skin merely by using unexpected tactics during their match. The gazes they now directed towards him was one of silent admiration and pride. While they weren’t the ones who won, it still felt good!********‘So many eyes are on me…’Rey was currently lying on the grassy plains, his eyes tightly shut as he enjoyed the fresh air and nice weather. He didn’t particularly like the attention that was being showered on him, yet he understood it was unavoidable.‘This is the price for standing out…’However, Rey was certain that even if he had lost to Billy, he would still have attracted a ton of attention—though not for positive reasons. He would have been pitied and seen as weak prey.‘I don’t want that. Just because I prefer not to stand o
"Good morning, everyone! Sir Brutus won’t be here today, so I’ll lead your Martial Arts Class instead.”The shock written on everyone’s face as they stared at the person speaking was priceless. No one could have anticipated this outcome, leaving them all staring in wide-eyed surprise.“Adonis is busy with the Alpha Group, so I guess you’ll have to settle for me.” The one who said this, with a bright smile on his excited face, was none other than Billy McGuire. Both Head Warrior Brutus and Grand Mage Lucielle would be away for the next few days, and there was no one left to teach the students, so they had to teach each other.Initially, when this was announced, everyone assumed that training would be put on hold until their teachers returned. How wrong they were…“This has to be a joke, right? Why are you the one teaching us? You’re practically one of us!”As expected, Adam flared up in rage.It was as if he had been waiting for a moment like this where his anger would be justified.
“G-GERUK!”In Hobgoblin tongue, that meant “Monster!”As the Hobgoblin Chief absorbed the reality of his people's deaths, that word kept playing in his mind over and over again.Dozens of Hobgoblins were slayed in a single moment, and the voice of their killer echoed in depraved laughter as he inflicted an unjust punishment.Just what… what did he and his people do to deserve this?!For the seven months that he had been the Chief of the Hobgoblins, they had enjoyed nothing but peace and prosperity. The Chief had eagerly looked forward to the day when he could relinquish his duties and join his ancestors in the earth. It seemed that day would arrive within a month or two, and he had been anticipating it happily.Yet, this had to happen in his lifetime? During his rulership? Why?!The ancient fables of the Hobgoblin society told of a time when they were the prey of the NightWolves, but thanks to the leadership of the great KoKuKa, the Hob Chief at the time, they were able to turn the
“Sir! It’s such a pleasant surprise to see you!” Rey was instantly greeted by a very excited Aldred Winsley. The man was grinning sheepishly at him. He seemed almost starstruck, like a fan meeting their favorite celebrity for the first time.‘He’s literally gushing…’ was Rey’s impression as he nodded slightly, entering the room.‘I was just asking your subordinate here when we might see you next.’Rey glanced at Noah and noticed him giving an uncomfortable smile.‘Were they pressuring him to convince me to come? Is that why he took so long?’It was just a guess, so Rey dismissed it.“In any case, it really is good to have you here. We have a lot to discuss.”Taking a seat on the sofa, Rey observed as Noah quickly positioned himself behind him.‘Good. He knows how to keep appearances without me needing to tell him…’ Rey felt relieved.Noah seemed to be able to handle himself in business now, but sometimes he was still an indecisive klutz.Like now, when he allowed his time to be delay
“Keuk!”Billy winced as something landed heavily on his stomach, the force of it creating a rush of wind even before impact.Fortunately, his quick step backward lessened the impact of the blow by a considerable degree.‘A-ahh…!’Still, a sharp burning sensation spread across his abdomen, making him grit his teeth to suppress a cry.It stung him, to say the least, but he endured the pain.He also tried to hide his downright shock, but Billy failed woefully at that. His bulging eyes were glued to Rey, who had resumed his standby stance—almost as if prepared to deliver another volley.‘D-did Rey just land a hit… on me?’ Billy stared in disbelief.Sure, Billy was aware that he lacked the advantage of using his incredible Skills, but his Stats were meant to be superior. How was Rey able to do something like that?!‘Calm down, Billy. He just got lucky. Yes… I was distracted and he had a lucky shot.’After chalking it down to a fluke, Billy found himself regaining composure. There was no wa
After the Trial, everyone went their way and Rey had to return to his room.Although he had the freedom to wander the central Living Room, he opted to stay put since he preferred not to.No one could blame him.As night descended and everyone else slept soundly, a certain student couldn’t sleep."Damn it…" He muttered, his eyes were wide open as he stared at the ceiling. Before long, he sat upright and clapped his hand over his face.“I screwed up big time…” He murmured in the dark.It was hard to make out the expression on his face, but it appeared to be a grimace. ‘I didn’t expect to be asked for another testimony. It wasn’t part of the plan…’In the dark of the night, Adam Sanchez lay on the bed going over the earlier events of the day.How he had been humiliated before everyone.“I really fucked up!”“Ahh… don’t blame yourself too much.” A voice suddenly said from the corner of the room.“Eep!”Like a little child, Adam shrieked as he jumped from his position, startled. The figu
