“This is the place.”

Rey and Noah stood in front of a massive building—one of the biggest in the area.

Of course, it wasn’t more than three storeys, but it was very wide.

It was clear that a lot of activities went on in this building, and it wasn’t for the faint of heart.

“You actually did business here?!”

Rey was shocked that someone as timid as Noah had the gall to trade in such an intimidating structure.

“W-well, I was approached by an affiliate who brought me here.”

“A-ahh… that’s true.”

According to Noah’s story, he was initially just looking for a place to sell the Monster Cores when he was approached by a guy who told him he’d help him sell the goods.

This man then escorted Noah to the imposing building and guided him through the necessary procedures.

‘That guy must be the one behind the scam’ Rey figured, connecting the dots.

The company must have dealt directly with the so-called Affiliate, who in turn dealt with Noah.

‘What is this…?!’Rey felt like he was in a lion’s den, a prey to the predators that all stared at him with suspicious eyes.He swallowed hard, his throat felt dry and scratchy, as he mulled over Adonis’ direct question. How could he explain himself without giving too much away? "Well, there was training. Obviously…" he started, hoping it would suffice.“After that.” Adonis’ voice was curt, straight to the point. He didn’t even give Rey a chance to buy time and think up an excuse.‘I thought we could spend our time however we wished. No one ever bothers to ask, so I never thought of an excuse!’Rey's mind raced as he grappled with the pressure mounting around him. Wasn’t it his own business how he spent his time? Surely, Adonis understood this.So why? There had to be a reason why he was being targeted!‘I should just come up with a believable excuse and—!’ Before Rey could finalize his decision about lying, he saw something in the hand of the Grand Mage, Lucielle herself. The Trut

Dorian's POV“So Dorian, what is it you wanted to see me about? You sounded like you were in a hurry.” The speaker was reclining on an armchair across from me. A desk filled with books and journals separated us.I could see his eyes take in my appearance carefully and I knew he had taken my disheveled look into account. He was my lawyer after all.The main reason I had come to see him though wasn't for his law skills. On the side, he was a private investigator. It was for this reason that I had asked to see him in a rush. “The job I'm giving you should be done quietly and you shouldnt involve another soul in it.”He looked offended and opened his mouth to defend himself but I stopped him halfway.“I know you're going to talk about your professional ethics and all and how you don't talk about your work. This is different, you don't even get to involve any of your buddies on it. You do all the legwork by yourself.”“Alright, this sounds serious. I'll do everything as you say,” He said

The fear never left me. It clung to my skin, wrapped around my throat and sat heavy in my chest. I told myself I was strong, that I had survived worse, but the truth was, I was exhausted.Every night, I laid awake listening to Dorian’s steady breathing. I imagined them finding us, breaking down the door, dragging us back into the nightmare we had barely escaped. I imagined what they’d do to us.After a while I couldn’t live like this anymore. I knew what I had to do.I waited until Dorian was asleep. He always slept light, but exhaustion had finally caught up to him. It was the only chance I’d get.I moved carefully, easing out from under the blanket, barely breathing as I pulled on my coat. My heart pounded so hard I was sure it would wake him. My boots were by the door. I slipped them on, then hesitated. My fingers hovered over the doorknob. If I left now, there was no turning back.I stepped out into the night. The cold bit at my skin as I pulled my coat tighter, shoving my hands i

The Noble's representative Neron hurried back through the tunnel, his boots splashing lightly in the puddles of water that had collected on the dirty ground. The gong's echoes still rang in his ears, urging him to pick up his pace. His journey to the tunnel had been fruitless—he couldn't find a way in and there was no sign of Serah either. He was just left with the unsettling feeling of being watched and he hoped that he hadn’t missed any important thing happening at the entrance. As he came out of the tunnel and made his way back to the entrance, he was relieved to see the mass of Adventurers still gathered outside. They had organized themselves into two queues as they prepared to file into the villa. It was a rowdy spectacle though as the Adventurers didn't take kindly to the guards trying to organize them and there were ripples of murmurs spreading across the crowd. He thought he spotted Legris and his team ahead of him and he ducked his head out of sight quickly out of reflex.

The next day arrived quickly, but this time around Billy wasn’t there to oversee the Beta Students' training.Instead…“Hello, everyone! I’ll be in charge of your Magic Training today!”… Bella from the Alpha Class was the one in charge of their training for the day.Just the same way it was with Billy, there was a bit of pushback, considering how very timid and weak Bella looked. She was always known to be a nice girl. But as soon as the training commenced and Bella showcased her magical abilities, the Beta Students were left in awe.Once again, an Alpha Student had made it clear that they were the superior students, their abilities surpassing even the most exceptional Beta Students. It was so unbelievable that it defied explanation. If anyone was told that the Alpha students had arrived in this world at the same time as the Beta students, they wouldn’t be able to believe it.The power gap was simply that huge.Fortunately, the Beta Students didn’t have to experience this despair for

Nico's PovWith a simple glance at the vehicles that had just surrounded mine, I could tell they belonged to our gang, and I was almost certain that this encounter wouldn't end well for either of us. Luckily my car had tinted glasses so they wouldn't know she was inside, that's if she kept quiet like I said.I tucked my pistol into my back pocket and stepped out of my car the same time my boss, Dante “The Serpent” Moretti stepped down from his.His weathered skin contrasted sharply with his silver hair and he wore a tailored black suit, which fitted him snugly. As usual , his gold signet ring on his knotted fingers glittered in the dark as he tapped his hand rhythmically against his ivory cane. The men with him respectively stepped down from their cars too and spread out over the area and I knew it wasn't a friendly meetup judging from their faces. I was the Underboss and these were men I led but in the low light, they refused to meet my eyes and I knew that I was in a lot of trouble

Anna’s POV“You need to be checked, Anna. We don’t know—”“No,” I cut him off, shaking my head. “We don’t know who we can trust.”Dorian clenched his jaw no doubt frustrated by my stubbornness but I wasn't going to back down.We were arguing once more about going to the hospital. I knew that he was right and I ought to but the facility had been relentless in hunting us down. We had no way of knowing who was still looking and who might recognize me. A simple doctor’s visit could be the mistake that led them straight to us.Instead, I focused on listening to my body, trusting what little instinct I had. The nausea came and went, and a strange sort of awareness settled in my bones. It wasn’t just me anymore.Dorian was torn. I saw it in the way his hands hovered near me, as if he wanted to shield me from everything but didn’t know how. He tightened security around us, changing our routines. No more walking the same routes, no more visits to the same markets or shops. He made sure the apa

Anna's POV The highway stretched endlessly before us so much that I wondered if it would end. The sound of the engine was the only noise we heard as we crossed another nameless border under stolen identities. Dorian kept his hands tight on the wheel, his jaw clenched. There were so many things I wanted to talk to him about but I was content for the moment with watching the road signs blur past, my fingers tapping anxiously against my thigh.Neither of us spoke because we didn’t need to. We both understood what was happening. Our old lives and everything as we had known it were gone. The facility, the experiments, Reinhardt. Everything we had run from was behind us. But the thought of them was hard to let go off.I closed my eyes, but the moment I did, flashes of the lab burned behind my lids. I remembered being trapped on the cold metal table. The scalpel in my hands and the guard’s blood seeping between my fingers.I jolted upright, gasping and saw Dorian hovering above me. "Nigh
