______________

“P-pack my bags? W-why?” Moving closer to Stefano i could not help how much my body shook.

“Yes Ayla, that son of a bitch thinks it’s okay to invite us out without any formal notice”

Son of a bitch? Invite us out? Formal notice? This wasn’t about me at all. My knees almost gave out from relief. Fuck, I thought today was going to be the end of me.

“Cassian?” I asked. Seeing how angry he was that was definitely the only person that could rile him up that much.

“Yes, he heard today that your husband has become the new Don of our bratva so he wants to host a meeting, well so he says but we both know Cassian doesn’t invite people over unless he intends to fuck with them”

“A-and do you think that’s what he wants to do here?”

“Do you need everything spelt out to you Ayla? Ofcourse that is his plan. I am going to show him that he can’t, before he tries to do anything it would be the end of him”

How foolish. Stefano is a very proud man, I knew he was not going to back out. He was going to doom us all. I looked over at Viktor and why am I not surprised that he shared the same ideals as his boss.

“But of course it’s not just us, he has invited the whole bratva in the country”

Can’t tell if this Cassian was smart or foolish to have the whole leaders of each bratva in one room, regardless of how much power he held it was too much of a risk. If I said this to Stefano it would only fuel his pride.

“When do we return?” I asked seeing as that was what was most important to me, getting rid of the life growing inside me.

“Thats nothing of your concern, get packed is all I ask. Stop with the twenty one questions” with that I was dismissed.

One more glance at him and Viktor I turned and made my way towards Beth and Rosa. The glares were more noticeable. The whispers were louder now. It didn’t take time for word to spread about Cassian’s invitation. It was crazy how fast it had gotten around.

“Dont tell me you are going”

“You can’t leave”

Beth and Rosa said at the same time once I reached their table.

“I have to. We all know I don’t have a choice. Maybe I can find a way to leave and get it done, I mean it would be even better since it’s a different city, nobody really knows who I am”

Rosa scrunched up her face but I could see it on her face that it was the best bet we had.

“You just have to be careful, it’s already bad enough that you are leaving the city, don’t get into trouble!” Beth said squeezing my hand.

With a sad nod and a smile I hugged them.

“I should leave i really don’t want to get him

Angry tonight, I will see you when I get back, pray for me” I said with a snort and we all laughed. Like that would save me.

“Call us, all the time!” Rosa said sounding sad. So as the final act of my love for them I used my situation as a source of amusement for them.

“Even from the grave after he finds out and kills me, sure”

That wasn’t funny because neither of them laughed. Shit, definitely miscalculated my moves there.

“I am kidding, geez one would think it was both of you who was hiding something” I rolled my eyes and walked away. My heart heavy as i could no longer feel their presence.

I told Stefano I was leaving, he grumbled and uttered his distaste for Cassian and sent me off with a driver. Nine hours and one long ass motivational speech later we landed.

“Fucking asshole better show me some respect” Stefano forced the grumbled words out of his mouth as we stepped out of the car. As usual I had to open my own door myself because my husband was too busy hating to attend to me. Funny cause even if he wasn’t he still wouldn’t attend to me.

The compound was definitely bigger than one third of our city, whosoever this Cassian was he definitely was very rich for him to own such a grand place like this.

Cars were parked everywhere, some I recognized by brands the others were foreign to me, not like I minded but Stefano refuses to shut up about how he didn’t bring his most expensive car.

If i wasn’t used to this lifestyle i would have immediately felt uncomfortable. Women dressed in amazing wears hanged around their men as they walked down the same hall as me. Now that I think about it I don’t think I have ever willingly want to glue myself to Stefano. Wasn’t weird at all.

I don’t know if my thoughts trailed or where it trailed to but I suddenly didn’t feel like going further. I paused in my steps.

“What is it?” The guard Stefano assigned to me asked.

“Nothing,” I said quickly. “I just… need some air, let my husband know I will be outside for a while ”

I didn’t wait for a response I turned and walked away looking as calm as i could.

At least, that’s how it looked on the outside.

On the inside, I was unraveling. I turned around to make sure i wasn’t followed and when I was sure i wasn’t I hastened my steps.

I moved through the crowd, ignoring the curious glances, the suffocating heat of the place. I just needed space.

The hallway outside was quieter, Cooler.

But it didn’t help because the moment I stepped away from the crowd i felt it.

A presence, I had noticed it earlier but ignored it cause it was far from me but now it was closer, behind me.

My steps slowed.

Then stopped.

For a second, I considered walking away, pretending I didn’t notice but something told me that would be a mistake. A dangerous one.

So slowly…

I turned.

Eyes peering into mine holding dark intensity in them.

The same eyes that had watched me while I convulsed with pleasure over and over again. Eyes that I should never see again.

My pulse roared in my ears.

“You,” I whispered, the word barely leaving my lips.

His gaze didn’t waver. Didn’t soften if anything, it darkened. A slow, knowing smile touched his mouth.

“Missed me already?” he asked quietly.

My breath caught. Fuck me!.

  • An Heir for my Husband’s Enemy   CASSIAN (chapter 36)

_______________She didn’t show. Can't say I was surprised when the maid came to tell me I’d be having dinner alone.Took me a while to convince Romano to let me spend the night in his home while he was away on an errand that I had to put together last minute. Pretty sure Peter would be cussing me out for disturbing his sleep, but I had to make sure Romano was out throughout the night. I didn’t rush my dinner. I ate like my refined self. Took my time, drank my wine, and took a few minutes to rest.“Thanks for the meal” I said to the maid. She was visibly uncomfortable. Can’t say I blame her. Everybody seemed to have that sort of reaction to me.“Thank you, sir” she responded and began clearing the table.“You heard Romano about showing me to where I’d be spending the night, right?” I rose to my feet.“Yes, sir. Right this way” she immediately dropped the dishes she was gathering to see me to the room Romano prepared for me.We get to a door that’s on the far side away from Ayla’s roo

______________Making up my mind to leave my city in a heartbeat is something I’ve been doing lately. Either it’s to get to a meeting, or it’s to see her. Either ways I was here without prior notice.“Who said you could show up at my house unannounced!” A furious Stefano tells from his balcony.“When did visiting a partner become a problem?” I replied. His men surrounded me, but I didn’t care. As much as they couldn’t see mine, they were everywhere. There was no possible way I was entering an enemy’s territory without protection. Peter is in the car. The doors are still open in case there's a shootout, something I won’t take past Stefano.“I should feed you to the dogs for assuming we are partners just because I agreed to a deal.” Hmm.How rude. But I say nothing because, truly I did overstep and I was in his city. I’d let him enjoy the power he’s feeling at this point. I didn’t come here to fight so he’s lucky.“Send him up” he finally said after glaring at me. Maybe he was expecting

___________We sat in silence at a coffee shop in an area not far from the clinic. Neither Beth nor Rosa had said anything since I asked that we leave the doctor's office. I couldn’t blame them, I mean, they just heard devastating news about me, what can they say?“Let’s go swimming” I said, breaking the silence.“Uhh sure, w-when do you want to?” Beth asked, avoiding eye contact, and I smiled.“Can you girls relax. Acting like this won’t change my results. I am already fucked as it is, I might as well enjoy the last of my days”“Don’t say something so stupid. We are going to figure this out” “How?” Rosa asked Beth the same thing I wanted to.“I-I don’t know. How about you call Moretti? Tell him about the baby. You said he likes you, so he won’t kill you, that’s a win, right?” I didn’t even think of Cassian, but now that he was on my mind, telling him is the same as telling Stefano.“No. Just because he enjoyed sleeping with me doesn’t mean he likes me. I am not stupid,” I said, and

______________“Are you sure today is a good idea to do this?” I asked the girls. We were seated in a car covered by tinted windows. I had no idea where Rosa had gotten the car, but it was a smart idea. We were outside a local fertility clinic. After our tea this morning, the girls grew scared for me and decided to meet again in the evening, which was now.“Trust me. It took me weeks to find this place, but it’s the best thing to do now with little time” Beth says, looking back.I had no idea until now that she could drive. Crazy but pretty cool.“But is it not too soon-““Too soon? What do you mean too soon? You’re not planning on keeping it, are you?” Rosa faced me with her eyes wide open.I sat in the back while she sat at the passenger's side. She wasn’t smiling, and I sighed.“I am not mentally prepared is what I mean”“You don’t have to be mentally prepared, you just have to be sure you want to do this. Do you want to do this?” Rosa asked.“I mean, we will support you with what

_____________I couldn’t remember the last time my mind got troubled over a girl. Strike that, I don’t think there ever was a time I got this bothered over a woman.“I need a mix, give me everything strong” Peter said to the bartender who looked too frightened to speak.“None for me.” There was no way the drink would go down my throat.“Bullshit, give him the dirtiest of your dirtiest mix as well” Peter gave me the stink eye while he spoke and I didn’t say anything. The thoughts running through my head were wild. What would I do if it were Ayla who was pregnant? Would that stop me from feeling the way I felt for her? What did I even feel for her?“I don’t know why you are so worked up over a pregnant chick but let me ease your troubles”I didn’t move an inch as I watched Peter take out the phone from his pocket and set his laptop on the counter. One that I didn’t even notice he was carrying. That was how preoccupied my mind was.“Let’s see, there’s a lot of messages here that I would

________Since Ayla….No, since they all left I have had more time to focus on my biggest issue.“Did you find anything out there?” I asked Peter in my office. He was seated opposite me while Gustavo stood by the door guarding as usual even though he was my consigliere.“They’ve started moving again,” Peter said after a moment. “And this time faster than before.”My jaw tightened slightly.“How close?”“Not close enough but with the rate at which they are going. They would be closing in on us anytime soon”I stood slowly, adjusting my suit. I hated having to dress so formally when I was in the office.“They’re already in America.” Peter’s eyes darkened.“You’re sure?” I asked sternly. There was nothing I hated more than mistakes.“I don’t deal in guesses.” He actually doesn’t.I moved toward the window, looking out over the city like it already belonged to someone else.Because if I were right, it soon would.“Does Luke know about this?” I asked gently. That night at the party this is
