Chapter 1

I struggled to open my eyes, though blood had blurred my vision. I made a raspy sound as I opened my mouth, and the moment I tried to speak, a mouthful of blood surged out instead.

My Mamma, Rosalina Vitelli, let out a primal wail and gathered me into her arms; her custom white cashmere coat immediately stained with blood.

"What's the matter, Grazia? Please don't frighten me, Grazia!"

It was then that my fiance, Luca Moretti, leaned over the edge of the rooftop and explained impatiently, "You shouldn't let her deceive you, Donna Moretti. She jumped on purpose to frame Serena. How bad could a two-story drop be anyway?"

Serena Salvatore cowered behind Luca, weeping as she said, "It's all my fault. Grazia has every right to be mad at me. After all, I've taken her place in the Salvatore Famiglia for so many years. I shouldn't remain here anymore now that she has returned."

Mamma lifted her head sharply, her eyes brimming with killing intent as she stared at the pair on the rooftop. "Shut up!"

I leaned against Mamma's embrace, feeling as though my insides were being shredded. I was in so much pain that my entire body went into spasms.

Antonio Caruso, the Famiglia doctor, came running with his medical bag, nearly tripping. He immediately went pale the moment he placed his fingers on my wrist to feel for a pulse.

"Ms. Grazia's heart has stopped beating, Donna Salvatore."

In that instant, everything around us went still.

My Papa, Vittorio Salvatore, seized Antonio by the collar, his eyes turning bloodshot with rage. "That's impossible! Grazia was speaking just a moment ago! How could her heart stop beating so suddenly?"

Antonio trembled violently while explaining, "Ms. Grazia has a heart condition to begin with, Don Salvatore. She was frightened by the dogs, then her heartbeat quickened due to the shouting, and now she has fallen from a high place—after all this, even a robust body wouldn't be able to hold up."

It was then that my brother, Marco Salvatore, arrived just in time to catch those words and went rigid. "That's impossible! Grazia was able to walk to the rooftop herself just a moment ago!"

I could feel my life slipping away. I never thought that I would meet my end in this so-called "home" less than a day after my return.

Mamma bit down on her lip until it bled. She grabbed a gun from a nearby guard and said, "I gave birth to my daughter after nine months of pregnancy, and on her first day back, you all pushed her to death, Vittorio!

"I'll make sure the Salvatore Famiglia disappears from Novarra for what you did if Grazia dies today!"

Luca supported Serena as they came down from the rooftop, his expression shifting the moment he witnessed the scene. "Have you gone mad, Donna Salvatore? How could you stop loving Serena and turn against the Salvatore Famiglia just because you brought back your long-lost daughter?

"You've raised Serena yourself! How can you be so heartless toward her, Donna Salvatore?"

Serena kneeled on the floor, tears streaming down her face. "Please don't be mad, Mamma. I'm the one at fault here. If you're upset, you can take it out on me. Please don't argue with Papa and Marco because of me."

I heard Serena's nauseating tone, my chest heaving violently in response.

In the end, my heart, which had been still, beat once more from the sheer force of my anger. I struggled to breathe, staring at her with a fixed glare.

Antonio was overjoyed. He lunged forward and injected me with epinephrine. "Ms. Grazia's heart is beating again! Hurry up and get the defibrillator!"

Mamma threw the gun aside and pulled me close, her tears landing on my face. "You have nothing to be afraid of, Grazia! I'm right here with you!"

I weakly held onto her sleeve, my vision going dark as I stammered, "I-I'm so cold, Mamma... L-Luca pushed me…"

I slumped to the side and blacked out completely after saying that. I could hear Mamma screaming hysterically just before I lost consciousness. "Drag Luca Moretti away and break both his legs!"

It was three years later when news reached us from Felscorch. Papa died of pneumonia in a shabby motel two years after leaving Novarra, while Marco had his legs broken by a group of local vagrants while fighting for food and starved to death in the street.I was out in the gardens at Vitelli Manor, tending to the flowers, when the news reached me. Mamma sat nearby sipping her coffee, looking completely unbothered. "They reaped what they sowed. They deserved their endings."I set my shears aside and took a seat next to Mamma. "I don't hate them anymore, Mamma. They're not worth another moment of my time or my feelings."Mamma smiled as she gently patted my head. "You're all grown up now, Grazia."It was then that a commotion erupted at the entrance of the estate, and the housekeeper hurried over to us. "There's a young man outside asking to see you, Ms. Rosalina and Ms. Grazia. He says his name is Michael Bianco, and he claims he's here to express his gratitude."I hesitated fo

Upon hearing about Ornella's death, Serena went hysterical. She kept yelling in the basement, claiming that she was the Principessa of the Salvatore Famiglia and demanding to see Mamma. Those watching over her grew tired of her and tortured her in various ways every day. She had become almost unrecognizable in just a few days.Luca's wounds became infected, leaving him with a high fever in the basement. He succumbed to death in less than three days.Upon hearing the news, Papa and Marco broke down in tears, though it was far too late to change anything.Under the supervision of the Vitelli Famiglia's doctors, I started feeling a lot better. I was still unable to do any heavy physical activity, but I could finally get out of bed and move about. That day, Mamma wheeled me into the basement, where Serena was huddled in a corner. She lifted her head at the sound of footsteps, and upon seeing me, her eyes flared with rage. "You bitch! How come you're still alive, Grazia?"She tried

In just a span of a few days, Papa seemed to have aged a decade. He looked at Mamma with a glimmer of hope in his eyes, asking, "Have you forgiven me, Rosalina?"Mamma stared him down without a hint of mercy. "You'd better tell me the truth this instant, Vittorio. Did you know anything about Grazia being switched back then?"Papa was stunned. "What are you talking about? How could I have known? Grazia is my own flesh and blood, Rosalina. Why on earth would I let my own daughter be replaced?"Mamma drew a gun from a bodyguard and held it to his head. "Do you intend to keep hiding the truth from me, Vittorio? "Serena's biological parents, who are nothing but low-level members of the Salvatore Famiglia, showed up earlier. How could they have gotten into the estate and swapped my daughter without help from someone inside?"Papa broke out in a cold sweat. "You have to believe me, Rosalina! I seriously have no idea how it happened! I was away in Caelmoor, taking care of Famiglia matter

It wasn't long before a middle-aged couple was escorted in.Bruno Gallo bellowed the moment he walked in, "You're Rosalina, huh? What right do you have to lock up my daughter?"Paola Marino followed suit, making a scene. "Oh, my poor daughter! She's been your daughter all these years, and now you harm her for the one you just brought back! If you won't treat her like a daughter, we'll take her back!"Mamma furrowed her brow and ordered the bodyguards with a wave of her hand. "Get them to speak properly."It was then that two bodyguards stepped forward and began slapping them repeatedly across the face, the sound echoing through the air. It didn't take long for both Bruno's and Paola's faces to become bruised and swollen.Bruno spat out a mouthful of blood and glared at us. "How dare you hit me! Do you even have any idea who I am?"Mamma sneered. "I don't care who you are. Your daughter tried to murder mine, so she must pay with her life. If you want to get the authorities involve

Vincenzo Vitelli, Mamma's father and the Don of the Vitelli Famiglia, strode into the main hall. He saw me covered in blood and noticed Mamma's distraught appearance, his face turning livid. "What's going on here, Rosalina?"Mamma dropped the gun and fell to her knees before Nonno, crying uncontrollably. "Please save Grazia, Papa! That monster from the Moretti Famiglia is trying to kill her!"Nonno glanced at me lying on the couch, his eyes blazing with fury. "Get the best cardiologist in Altracroce over here at once! Where the hell is Vittorio? Get him out here!"Papa and Marco stood in the doorway, looking deathly pale.Nonno walked over and kicked Papa squarely in the chest. "Is this how you treat Rosalina and Grazia after I allowed you to marry Rosalina?"Papa coughed up a mouthful of blood, repeatedly shaking his head. "I had no idea that Serena was capable of such malice, Don Vitelli."Nonno let out a contemptuous laugh. "You had no idea, huh? Do your eyes serve no functi

In that instant, the temperature in the cold storage became frighteningly low.Serena's triumphant expression went rigid as she stood frozen in place, looking deathly pale under the flashlight's intense beam. Papa fixed his gaze on her, his lips trembling. "What did you just say just now, Serena?"Marco couldn't believe that Serena, the sister he had pampered his whole life, was capable of such malice. "You were the one who greased the rooftop and spiked the medication?"Serena panicked and dropped to her knees. "I can explain everything, Papa and Marco! It's all a misunderstanding! Grazia made me do it! She was trying to kill me, so I only said those things to play along with her!"Serena scrambled toward Papa to cling to his leg, only for Mamma to sneer derisively and strike out with her Colt 1911. She cried out as the gun barrel left a bloody gash on the back of her hand.Mamma moved forward and kicked Serena squarely in the chest, sending Serena crashing into the wall and co
