I sent an email to everyone at KJM while I thought about how to break the news to them—what I had decided. The whole night, I tossed and turned. This was the only way. It seemed like the right way, without any collateral damage.

“I’m done,” I said, getting up from his seat and packing my laptop into the bag. Killian stared at me the whole time I was writing the email, sitting across the table. We were in his office at the headquarters—the room we slept in was attached to this office. That’s why there were no windows. We were still underground. The moment I figured that out, it somehow started to feel more suffocating.

Killian didn’t stop looking at me with that critical expression.

“If you want to say something, say something. Don’t stare at me like this,” I said.

“This is a bad idea. Don’t do it.”

“I’ve decided. I’m not continuing this. And you said you’d respect my decision.”

“Tommen Anderson and the Mengs—they’re after you. And now we have Christen Meng.

“It’s not what you think,” I try to explain after he helps me dry off and change. Now, he is meticulously and gently blow-drying my hair. It reminds me of that night after Devil’s Lair. He keeps his gaze down, his expression giving nothing away. I remember what I said last time. “Trust me, I’m not trying to kill myself. I lost consciousness, and I did try to get up, but I remember my hand slipping. I don’t know what happened…” I trail off as he finally looks up. In that moment, he looks so unlike himself—no arrogance, no lethalness in his eyes. He puts away the dryer, and I grab his hand, my heart pounding, I didn't want him to be worried. “I’m fine, really. I didn’t—” He looks at me, his jaw tightening. “You sure?” he asks. “Yes. I fainted. And I…I don’t have the guts to do that.” I can’t even say it. Not when I feel completely drained. He searches my eyes for a long moment. I hold his gaze. Finally, he nods. Then he bends down and kisses me. I

When I finally woke up, my eyelids were heavy, making it difficult to open them. My mouth felt dry as I swallowed, and when I tried to move, the covers seemed too heavy over me. Something soft and warm caressed my forehead—it took me a moment to register that they were lips. Slowly, memories crashed into me as I fought to open my eyes. "Kil...lian," I murmured when I finally managed to look up. "You're awake?" His lips moved, and then I met his dark eyes. I tried to speak, but instead, I coughed. Killian hurriedly got up, reaching for something behind him. Helping me sit up and lean back, he placed a glass against my lips, and I swallowed a few gulps of water. I pushed the glass away as my vision cleared. I was lying in a comfortable king-sized bed with white covers draped over me. Killian sat beside me, leaning his back against the headboard. He set the glass aside, and only then did I notice that he was shirtless, his shoulder wound exposed. The wound he got a we

I let go of Francesca, stilled, and the fire in my blood turned to ice. She collapsed to the ground with a thump, gasping for breath. My father’s indifference was never a surprise. Maybe he hated my mother enough to let Adeline do as she pleased. Maybe his love for his other family was so great that he never cared about the first one. Those were the only thoughts that kept me sane whenever he treated me coldly. Whenever he hugged Francesca but never me. It had always been clear—the lack of love. And slowly, I had come to terms with it. He never treated me like family. He was never truly a father. So what was there to miss? Nothing. It would be an absolute waste of energy to expect anything from him. And yet, I was still given a place in this house, clothes to wear, food to eat. Materially speaking, one could say I was well provided for. Maybe he was man enough to ensure I was taken care of in a way that didn’t cost him much, and I had accepted it. I had never b

“Killian, I am not here for games.” “Neither am I.” He cast a sharp glance over my shoulder, and I heard them putting their weapons down. “Go ahead. Shoot,” he said, his voice as smooth as steel. “I promise, afterward, they’ll let you walk. You’ll be the new boss anyway.” I met his gaze, unflinching. “I don’t need your permission. I want to leave. What I do and do not do has nothing to do with you.” “I’d advise you to think this through.” “No. This ends here. And when it does, every Anderson will go with my mother.” Before I could react, Killian moved. A blur of motion. My wrist twisted, the gun wrenched from my grip before I even registered the pressure. I retaliated instantly—pivoting, striking out with my elbow, aiming for his ribs. But he sidestepped, his body shifting like water, flowing seamlessly between offense and defense. I lunged, aiming a sharp kick to his knee, but he blocked effortlessly. His movements were precise, controlled—almost e

“She is technically dead.” The words sink in slowly. I clutch my hands together. My feet turn cold, my heart goes numb, and no thoughts pass through my mind. A silence settles in—a kind of silence where your mind refuses to hear anything else. “Mila…” “Mila…” “Mila!” The beeping of the heart monitor grows louder, jolting me back, and my eyes snap to Killian. “Can you hear me?” I nod, but even that feels difficult. It’s as if someone has placed a stone inside my skull, stopping my brain from functioning properly. “Listen to me.” His voice is firm, commanding. He holds my face in his hands, his gaze drilling into mine. I swallow, but my throat is dry. My eyes feel dry too. I feel like a bystander, disconnected from my own body. And then, I notice something I never have before—Killian’s eyes. Sometimes, they resemble dark stones, their depth capable of swallowing me whole. Why didn’t I realize how expressive they are? Beautiful eyes. Devastating ey
