Chapter 1

"Vincent, don't leave me... You're all I have left!" When I opened my eyes again, I saw Flora Turner throw her arms around my neck, trying to kiss me as she stood on her tiptoes.

In my last life, I had been hopelessly in love with her and had simply let everything spiral out of control. This time, I grabbed the glass of water on the bedside table and splashed it straight into Flora's face.

She froze for a moment. Her eyes seemed clear for a moment, but then, they were soon once again consumed by desire and alcohol. I pressed the call bell and walked out the door without hesitation. "I'll make the right choice this time," I mumbled to myself.

The butler, Mr. Thompson, appeared before me almost at once. He glanced at the half-open door and asked carefully, "Master Vincent, should I..."

"Send her to Sean Graham's place," I said.

The butler was stunned for a moment. He was about to speak, but when he met my cold eyes, he swallowed his words and hurried off to do as he was told.

Ten minutes later, Sean sent me a text, his tone full of provocation and accusation. [Vincent, what did you do to Flora?]

I typed out a calm reply. [It's your birthday today, Mr. Graham. I'm simply helping you make your wish come true and sending a gift your way.]

When the screen went dark, I could see the reflection of my face, and a bitter smile tugged at my lips.

Flora and I were siblings in name only, and we shared neither mother nor father. My mother, Miranda Shaw, was a well-known businesswoman. She had been widowed for many years before she fell in love with Flora's father, Jack Turner.

That was how Flora Turner became my stepsister.

In my previous life, I had fallen deeply in love with Flora. That love and desire for years had turned into a wild night, and I was glad to be what she needed.

The next day, her lover, Sean, walked in on us.

He forced himself to swallow the humiliation and said he would recognize us. Later, he ran away from home and disappeared for a whole month. The police eventually found a bloodstained tie at the edge of a cliff and a pile of bones at the bottom.

Flora did not show any crack in her composure. She even turned around and comforted me. Not only that, she threw herself into planning my birthday, saying she wanted to give me a memory I would never forget.

On the day of the trip, I was kidnapped. I heard her cold laugh as she gave the kidnappers their orders. "Don't let him die too easily. He's just some scum of the earth. Do whatever you want with him. When you're done, dump him in the Northern Barrens and clean things up. He owes Sean this much!"

I sobbed and begged her. "You were the one who came to me first, Flora! How could you just let me die now?!"

Flora smiled cruelly. "You're the one who made the first move. Ever since Sean left me, I wished you would die every single day! You still don't know about this, do you? When your loving mother heard you were trafficked across to the Northern Barrens, a vein in her brain popped, and it started bleeding! She's still in the ICU right now! No one in this world is coming to save you!"

My heart went cold.

I went through every humiliation one could imagine in the Northern Barrens. They broke all ten of my fingers and shattered the bones in my legs.

In the end, I died because of all their torture.

Everything was thanks to Flora.

I died with my eyes wide open, filled with nothing but hate!

Now that I had regressed and was given another lease in life, I would never make the same mistake again!

-

The next morning, my mother was seated at the table reading financial reports as she spoke to me in a soft, gentle voice. My stepfather, Jack, was directing the servants as they set out breakfast.

Suddenly, Flora burst into the house with Sean in tow. She shot me an unreadable look, then lifted Sean's hand high and announced in a serious tone, "Mom, Dad, I'm going to marry Sean."

Her clothes were a mess.

Meanwhile, Sean held his head high, a hint of smugness and pride on his face, with his neck covered in love bites. Anyone could tell what the two of them had been doing all night.

Jack was overjoyed, but my mother stayed calm. Instead, she simply told Mr. Thompson to add one more place at the table. Not long after, she excused herself, saying there was an urgent matter at the company, and left early.

At the table, Jack treated Sean as if he were family already, as he kept asking Sean questions.

All of a sudden, Flora looked over at me, displeased. "Vincent, where's your voice? You won't even say hello to Sean? Aren't you happy with him?"

I returned to my home country one month later. My mother and Jack came out to greet me, with Flora following behind them.Flora's face lit up when she saw me, but the moment her gaze fell on Wendy standing behind me, she instantly clenched her jaw in anger. Flora pulled me aside and shoved a file into my hand. I opened it to see Wendy's dating history.Every past partner of hers was laid out on the pages, with photos and personal details. Nothing was left out, and Flora tried to stir things up. "Vincent, Wendy is just a social butterfly. Will she really treat you well?"Then she looked at me with pleading eyes. "Only I can make you happy, Vincent. Only I know what you truly need."I shook her hand off, the A4 pages scattering through the air."I don't care. As long as she stays by my side, I don't care about her so-called scandals."I truly did not care.Wendy was not my girlfriend. She was a partner I paid very well to work with. With her fighting at my side, the financial rep

I could not help but blurt out a cold laugh at Flora.Flora's tender expression froze on her face as she stared at me, stunned. She asked awkwardly, "Vincent, why are you... Why are you laughing?"I shook off her hand and answered in a nonchalant tone, "I'm laughing at how you make everything about yourself. Yes, I did have a crush on you once. When we were kids, you truly were nice to me. But even when we hit our teens, you never kept any distance or set any boundaries. You strung me along for years."Those extra presents every year, all that touching, even ripping up the love letters other girls gave me… Flora, you say you love me now, but do you remember what you said back then? You said I was disgusting."That was not even counting what had happened in my last life, when she had personally pushed me straight into the depths of the pit of despair. She liked me but refused to bear the weight of what that meant to everyone else. She liked me but also clung to her first love, Sea

I threw myself back into work after that, with that phone call from Flora nothing more than a brief distraction. I thought I had made myself clear enough that Flora would not escalate things.Alas, I had underestimated just how obsessed she was. That afternoon, Wendy and I had just come out of the lab and were headed toward our classroom. Wendy said with genuine admiration, "Vincent, you're the most impressive guy I have ever studied with. You think fast, and your logic is impeccable."I modestly said, "You're not bad yourself!"As we talked, we happened to walk past the gym.Bang!A volleyball shot past and grazed my cheek, leaving a sharp, burning pain.Wendy was shocked. She reacted quickly, grabbing my arm to steady me and checking the injury. Only after she saw it was just a scrape did she finally relax. Before I could recover, a figure rushed at us from the side and shoved Wendy away. "How dare you touch him?! He's mine!"One glance was enough for me to recognize the fig

I knew almost nothing about what was happening back home over the past few years. I was just trying to stay afloat, after all.My mother kept her word. After sending me overseas, I got no other help at all, other than a monthly allowance into my bank account. Every step I took in the beginning was hard.My classmates were all top students from across the world. There was always a silent bias in language, lab work, and even day-to-day socializing.I was struggling all the way.But I never once thought about dropping out or running home.Compared to my previous life, when I was thrown into the Northern Barrens and humiliated in every way, this was utopia!I reminded myself repeatedly that if one could not endure the pain of studying, one would pay for it in another way.It wasn't until year two that I started to get the hang of things. Strong grades, solid experimental results, and a few standout talents slowly earned me real respect. That was when I got a call from Flora. "Vin

Flora's expression darkened.Help her?Because of Lily, Miranda was already very disappointed in her.And now, she was supposed to help Lily again? Why should she?Flora refused. "Sean, I have already done everything I could for Lily. Don't make this harder for me."Sean could not hide his disappointment as he turned away. "Flora, you've changed. Back then, you begged me to marry you and promised you'd agree to whatever I asked. But… you're already refusing me when I'm just asking you to give Lily a hand."Flora was exhausted and also quite annoyed at the same time.Lily... It had always been Lily!In their first year of marriage, she and Sean had fought countless times because of Lily.Sean would drop everything to be with Lily without hesitation, whether it was during their family dinner or Valentine's Day. "Vincent has already gone abroad for his studies." Miranda said as she walked over to Flora and Jack slowly.Flora froze.Vincent had left the country to study without even saying goodbye?Ha!It must be because he was still sulking about the fact that she was marrying Sean. That was fine.Flora was very certain Vincent could never truly let her go and focus on his academics overseas. Very soon, he would find some excuse to come home, insisting on staying by her side.Whatever. She would try to persuade him when he came back. For now, he could do as he pleased.Miranda's steady gaze swept over Flora and Sean, then she said, "Congratulations on your marriage, Flora. Now that you're married, you need to learn to shoulder a wife's responsibilities."Flora was irritated. She had never liked this stepmother of hers. She was overbearing and loved to lecture, but she had never shown her any disrespect.Miranda was a cunning woman, and it was as if she could see straight through ever
