MAXIMILIAN’S POV

I sat in my study, pouring myself glass after glass of vodka. I had told myself I would stop after three glasses, but I couldn't stop. Finishing the whole bottle felt like my unspoken plan.

I hadn't felt better ever since I saw the latest trend with childless couples. How dare they count me among them? I was going to have an heir, and soon.

A sigh escaped me.

That had been what I told myself for the past five years. I had talked about having an heir soon, and just that way, the years had rolled by. It made me wonder if things would have been different if Daisy had been found that night.

It had been a night of extreme anger and helplessness.

“Damn!” I yelled, grabbing the table cloth at once. The dishes, glasses, and cutlery had all tumbled to the floor, crashing, smashing, bouncing… Jezebel had been alarmed by the noise, and had screamed.
